8 Her Past

Most of the afternoon class, Mandy could only hear about the exam she was going to participate. As if it was really a big deal for them, just like a main event in the MA. Until she arrived at her dorm, most of the gazes of her dorm mate creatures are also thrown at her. Some have concerns in their eyes.

Mandy could feel a little tension from the way they describe the special exam. So she decided to have some fresh air outside the dorm as soon as she change her cloth. Since a curfew has been mandated that no student must be outside the dorm within the time arranged, Mandy did not go that far. There was a park near the dorm with different kinds of plants. A lively pond with fishes in it, that the bright light from the moon shows the beauty in the place. She have her seat in a bench near the pond, gazing at the water which reflected the moon.

From the serenity, she couldn't control herself to feel sad. She's all alone most of the time, that she can't help still longing for her family and friends. She misses the way her life before... before she became a monster. She blamed herself for all of that. If only she was stronger at that time, and she wish she knows earlier before that happen.

Her last memory was the incident in a bloody room. Corpses of her family and friends was everywhere, and the next thing she woke up in a hospital. Not to mention, they know already who she was. But mostly she didn't expect them say her parents died on their burning house and she was the only survivor. She thought twice, she never believe that really happened to them. That's when they sent her to an orphanage. She barely talk and move, so the nun always guiding her. Until most of the kids envy her, since most of the attentions are focus on her. One time when she was all alone in the garden, the kids plan on making a prank on her. They sneak behind her, bringing a pail of wastewater from washing a floor. She was sitting out of her mind, as if thinking so long about what really happen in her. That time she slowly understand and know who she was now. That she is no longer a normal person.

While she was deeply out of mind, a nagging feeling that she was suppose to stand and step forward. As soon as she did that, she feel a splash of liquid hit her back. She wasn't soak in it, but the cold water hit her skin enough to catch her attention.

Mandy saw a group of kids behind her. They were younger than her. She was wondering why they did that to her, she saw the water she was suppose to be soak in.

"What are you doing?" she said, which surprise them. It is the first time they hear her voice. She was supposed to feel angry but she wasn't.

"Sorry, were gonna have it on you"

"You never talk once, so we think we might get you angry and talk"

"But, it turned out you're not angry at us...why?"

They are indeed child, they never knew what things she've gone through. Even she was only nine years old at that time, she knew already how much cruel the world is...Even a small prank like that never gave her a hint to be angry. But, that time she knew she doesn't have to tell this kids about that.

"Sorry for what I've done this past few weeks" she just said. Both kids look at each other wondering why she's the one apologizing to them.

Almost two years passed, she managed to be close with everyone in the orphanage. One time a kid was climbing on a tree. Mandy was there, when the branch which the kid hold snap. Unconsciously Mandy saved the kid.

The look on the kid was unexplainable. His eyes were bulging out of its socket. His mouth was quivering, any word he wanted to say wouldn't came out.

That's when Mandy realize she used her pair of wings at her back. As soon as she realized the situation she retracted her wings back inside her skin. She look directly at the child and mouthed him to be silent. But he immediately shouts, that made Mandy ran as fast as she could in her room and change her shredded shirt.

The child was finding her, tagging along the other children and nuns. He was pointing at her and saying things that she's an angel with wings. The nuns could only look at each other and tell the child, its not her he saw, it was a guardian angel. The incident was then followed when a child was drowning at a river near the orphanage. But the child was half awake so they assume the child was imagining that he saw a person with gills. Many incident happen that she secretly save them. Many kids was talking about her but the elders never believed.

Until one time, it reached the authorities. When they knew Mandy was using her ability, they feel threatened. Even if she's from a human being, they were scared what might happen if this continued.

A group of black in suit people visit their orphanage. The nuns were talking with them when Mandy passed the hallway. She immediately knew they were here to take her. She run as fast as she could in her room and packed all her things. She don't know what might they do if they would got her.

She hear their footsteps coming from the door so she doesn't have a choice but to get out in the window. She succeed, she made her way in the woods as far away from the orphanage. But, after she reached the highway a couple of people held her and cover her mouth with a cloth. She feel a sudden dizziness and lossing her strength.

She woke up, but she's sitting on a chair. She thought they would bind her, but she sat in a comfortable passenger chair. Beside her is a man with a formal suit.

"Don't worry we wont harm you" as if the man knew what she was thinking.

"Where are you taking me?"

"In your new home, where you might belong"

They were silent afterwards the whole ride. In her view outside the vehicle, the place was different. The type of trees and weird creatures are different. Later on, as they arrived the man beside her explained everything to her.

"Anyway, I forgot to introduce myself. You can call me Mr. Riedax. I am the headmaster of the school you're going to attend." he said before leaving her in her own room.
