11 Chapter 10

It's November fifteenth, and Emily and I are going on a date today. I'm going shopping with her, then we're going to a corn maze. I waited for her to return from her house and readiedStorm to go for the day as well. Emily refused to go without her; just like a kid. I heard rustling in the leaves behind me and a "Boo!"

Act the part Hunter.

"Ah!" I jumped.

I heard her giggle, her bare hands hiding her smile. "Did I scare you?"

"You sure did." Gloves. I need to get her gloves too.

"That's payback from the haunted house, Knife Guy." She winked at me, then she got in my warmed up truck.

I got in and put the truck into drive.

"Hey Hunter?"

"Hm?" I turned on the radio as I pulled out of the driveway.

"When is your birthday?"

"Next month."

"What day?"

"The seventh."

"Okay thank you." She scribbled something in the notebook I gave her not too long ago,

"You don't have to get me anything."

"But I want to!"

"Alright, just don't spoil me."

"No promises."

We laughed and I continued to drive to town.

"We're here." I said as I pulled into Kohl's parking lot.

"Are you sure you're not missing anything with your friends?"

"I'm sure. Do you have any friends?"

"No. I don't, but I met this boy once when I was younger."

We walked into the store and headed to the jacket area. "Really?"

"Yeah. I forgot what he looked like, but he came into my life in the strangest of ways."

"How so?"

She picked out a jacket and tried it on.

"He messed up my snowman." She checked the price tag and put it back, then looked for something cheaper. "He ran into it when he was chasing a small pony or a dog. I don't remember. He was chasing something. He stood up after a while and I was crying because 1) I wondered if he was okay, and 2) he knocked down my snowman. He was older than me too, I could tell by the way he spoke. He said, 'I'm so sorry.' Then I asked him if he was okay, and he was. He also told me that after he caught whatever he was chasing he would come back and give me something."

She picked another jacket that was cheaper and tried it on.

"Do you remember what it was?"

"No, but I don't have it anymore because my dad burned it." She kept the jacket. "This one will be good."

"But what about the other one?"

"It's expensive, and I don't want you to spend too much so I'm taking this one."

"Emily-"

"No buts. We still have that corn maze, remember?"

"Fine, but first I want to give you something else." I took her hand and led her over to where they sold gloves. "Pick a pair."

She did as she was told and picked one. "Are these for your mom?"

"No, they're for you."

"Me? But I already have the jacket-"

I shushed her by putting my finger over her soft plush lips. "No buts. Besides, this is what the kid gave you in the first place."

That froze her. She stood right in her tracks.

"What do you mean?"

"He was chasing his dog and ran into your snowman."

No wonder her house looked somewhat familiar.

"You're the boy?"

I took her, her jacket, and her gloves and went to the cashier.

"In the flesh."

"What are the odds?"

I paid for her things and helped her put on her jacket. Then her gloves. "Indeed."

What are the odds? Was that the reason why we're soulmates then?

"I'm sorry about those gloves."

"No need to apologize."

Before we walked to the truck I grabbed her hand and led her somewhere else.

"Hunter. I don't need anything else."

"One more thing, okay?"

"Fine. But no more!"

She followed behind me and I took her to a store to get her a hat. Once done with that, we went back to my truck, and I pulled out of my spot from the shopping center to the highway, turned on the radio, and drove to the corn maze.

"Hey Hunter?"

"Yes?"

"Two things. Thank you for all of this."

"You're welcome." But she hesitated on her number two. "..And two?"

"Can you give me five minutes to talk to you, without interruption?"

That's a strange favor someone could ask, and I was nervous. My grip slightly tightened on the wheel, and I gave her my response.

"Sure. But when you are done, I'm next."

"Okay." She turned off the radio so we were in complete silence.
