CHAPTER 17

"How far is that base from here?", Shen Tian asked.

"Well, if you walked east for a day and a half, then you should be able to reach the base."

"How about the zombies? Have you encountered a lot of them?"

Shao Haoran paused upon hearing that question and sadness flitted through his face momentarily.

"There are more zombies than expected.", Shao Haoran sighed. "If we leave it as it is, in a two to three months, they'll form a horde and would start marching towards the base. Zombies in a horde follow their instinct of moving towards where there's the strongest human scent, after all."

At this time, the two had already finished eating their meals. Shao Haoran strongly offered to wash the dishes. Shen Tian gave up fighting Shao Haotian over that task seeing that the latter was serious.

"So, when do you plan to go back to the base?"

"I plan to rest for a day or two until my powers come back completely. It'll be suicide for me to travel back to the base when my power isn't at full strength."

"Okay, that's great news for me then.", Shen Tian beamed. "I needed some help around the safe zone. If you help me, I can take care of your meals."

"Really?"

"Yes, right now, I needed additional hands to plough the arable land outside the house. I plan to plant rice and potato seedlings later on."

Shao Haoran looked at him in disbelief.

"Planting? But won't vegetation either wither and die or mutate these days?", Shao Haoran confirmed with Shen Tian, as if this was common sense.

Shen Tian scratched his head.

"Well, as long as the plants are planted here in the safe zone, they should grow and ripen... I think?"

Now that Shao Haoran mentioned that, Shen Tian became unconfident in the success of planting the rice and potatoes.

"Yeah, I think I'm confident that what I plant won't die or mutate." Shen Tian replied with more conviction in his voice.

Although still in disbelief, Shao Haoran decided not to say anything more. This place is Shen Tian's safe zone and only he knows the benefits and limitations of his own territory.

"Let's head back to rest early so we can start work early tomorrow as well."

Both men went to their respective room to rest for the night, each one having their own thoughts in their head.
