CHAPTER 12

"So, how can I compensate you for the help you've given me so far?", Shao Haoran opened the topic just as soon as he was done eating. He solemnly looked at Shen Tian.

"Well, as you can see, I own this safe zone."

Shao Haoran nodded at his words.

"It may be hard to believe, but this safe zone is like my superpowers. The area surrounded by the mesh fence is impenetrable to zombies so it is definitely a safe place for people to live in."

Shao Haoran was surprised at first but then he fell into deep thought upon hearing this.

"Well, if we think about the fact that there are superhumans with powers to create barriers, then this shouldn't be hard to believe.", Shao Haoran spoke seriously. "It's just that it's my first time seeing a barrier of this scale."

This time it was Shen Tian's turn to be surprised.

"There are superhumans?", he can't help but blurt out.

"Yes, how come you didn't know?" Shao Haoran replied with puzzled voice.

"Er- I've just been staying in this safe zone since the beginning of the apocalypse and you're the first person I've met since then.", Shen Tian scratched his head and replied sheepishly. He then tried to change the topic. "So, what's your superpower?"

Shao Haoran hesitated a bit to answer Shen Tian's question. But thinking that Shen Tian had shared what his superpower is, he decided to be truthful.

"I'm a superhuman with the power of lightning.", Shao Haoran replied. He then clenched his fist and small bolts of purple lightning swirled around his fist. "I'm a bit weak at the moment because of the fever, but I'm still stronger than most superhumans."

"Ohhh!", Shen Tian exclaimed admiringly. Lightning power is most often the strongest superhuman power so there is no doubt that Shao Haoran is strong. "That's so cool!"

Well, it is definitely every man's fantasy to have such flashy superpower.

'System, why don't I have a superpower?'

'I only mentioned that to deceive Shao Haoran, but that's really my superpower?'

Shen Tian was about to cry.

Shen Tian secretly cried in his heart. It seems that flashy superpowers are beyond his reach now. He tried to not think about it anymore and cheered himself up.

"No, you're superpower is cooler than mine, Tian.", Shao Haoran answered honestly. "Being able to create a safe zone that zombies can't enter is definitely a valuable superpower now."

"Hehe, that's true." Shen Tian cheered himself up. "So, anyway, do you want to take up residence in my safe zone? I currently have two guest rooms and each room has two beds. If you don't have a place of residence, you can live here. One bed costs 5 crystal cores a day, 30 cores a week, or 100 crystal cores a month."

Shao Haoran was taken aback by Shen Tian's words. Seeing the obvious shock in the man's face, Shen Tian thought that he might find it a bit expensive. But Shen Tian really didn't want to go outside the safe zone to kill zombies again. He doesn't have the fighting power to kill stronger zombies, after all. More than that, knowing that people are superpowered in this world, he isn't confident that he can protect himself if he meets a hostile individual while outside of the safe zone.

Contrary to what Shen Tian thought, Shao Haoran was shocked because Shen Tian's pricing was too low. One must know that a small base requires 5 crystal cores just to enter. To rent a tent for a day, a small base will charge 30 crystal cores. If you want to rent a bed in a dormitory for a day, you'll have to spend 50 to 100 crystal cores, depending on which area the dormitory was located in.

Five crystal cores a day is definitely a steal!

"Okay, I'll rent one guest room!", Shao Haoran excitedly piped in before Shen Tian can change his mind. "Since the guest room has two beds, that'll be 10 crystal cores per day, right? I'll be renting for one month!"

'Score!' Shen Tian fist pumped in his head.

"However," Shao Haoran's voice pulled him back from his excited thoughts. "I would like to see what the guest room looks like first. Is that possible?"

"Sure!", Shen Tian agreed. "Are you able to walk now? My house is that one you can see at the distance. I can carry you up my back again, but since I'm not all that strong, we may have to stop every now and then. Is that okay with you?"

"I should be able to walk that distance." Shao Haoran estimated the distance. Superhumans usually heal common ailments faster than non-superhumans. So, given that the anti-pyretic tablets already worked, then walking to the Shen Tian's house should not be difficult.

Shao Haoran picked up his own backpack and wore it on Baobao again. He also took the initiative to carry the mountaineering bag.

"No, you bring this small bag. I'll carry that one.", Shen Tian switched out the mountaineering bag with the bag he brought with him when he went out this morning. It doesn't contain any heavy stuff so it's perfect for a patient like Shao Haoran.
