6 Village Beliefs

"What are you going to be doing?"

Turning around Alex sees Shelia standing at the entrance of the hut with a confused look on her face.

"Um, I am going to... um... learn more about the surrounding area! Yeah, you guys should not be the only people in this area am I right?"

Alex spews out a lie of deciding to explore the surrounding area, now that was not technically a lie as Alex knew that there once were a bunch of tribes on Eve before the sun disappeared. However, Alex did not know where they were at this time since after the sun disappeared from the galaxy Eve entered an Ice Age and encased all the inhabitants for hundreds of thousands of years until the Kull civilization found the planet and started to colonize it after taking most of the natural resources. So by figuring out where they are Alex may be able to figure out what time he was transported to on the planet.

However, when Alex mentions finding out about other tribes or people she just looks a bit confused about that question. After further digging erm questioning Alex realizes that the other tribes he wanted to find we're probably hundreds of thousands of miles away from each other and this particular village has not left this place for the past hundred years so of course they never met anyone since they were not looking in the first place.

So with that found out Alex would have to hold on trying to explore the planet. Still, Alex needs to figure out how to improve himself through what the system call's leveling up. This would be very useful if he could gain more of these exp donuts since they actually tasted good and kinda reminded him of his normal civilization and life as a history teacher.

Shaking away those thoughts Alex leaves the hut that he was staying in with Shelia and they both go to find the elder to see what Alex could do.

They found the elder within his own hut and he was busy tending to the children of the village and giving them lessons about various aspects of their future jobs and villages. Alex and Shelia wait outside the hut for a while but as he is waiting he cannot help but overhear something.

"Now children when our great ancestors found this place they thought here was not special and were only another part of the desert that was until one of our ancestors while digging a well found our God," The elder says

Gasps of awe are heard from the children inside the hut from the children as they listen to the story. However, Mike is frowning at what they are listening to since in his time gods were proven to be just false idols made by people to prevent others from gaining power and so that instead could gain power. These gods were in fact just regular people who did extraordinary deeds on their planet that caused them to personified as gods and as a result that the people believed in them. So how could gods exist here?

Alex listens in further to what the old man is saying.

"When our ancestors found our god they conversed with him and gained his favor through gifts and acts of devotion. Unfortunately, our God said he was not meant to stay in this world forever and that he would soon leave to a higher realm amongst the stars. Although our God said that he would be leaving he said that he would bestow upon us two gifts as thanks for our hospitality. The first gift was the transformation of the desert into the land you see today and the second gift was one that he sent from the heavens themselves" The old man continues

"What was the second gift?" A child asks

"The second gift was the statue at the center of our village my child. It came down from the heavens and when it landed it further nourished the land where it hit before we brought it here to our village and since then it has been the object of our worship"

Hearing this Alex started to take in what he heard and modify it into something that was more scientific and believable.

From what Alex can gather from what the old man said apparently their god came from outer space but whether or not they were from any of the factions that he knows at the time he cannot say based on the limited information. Although changing the bare land of a desert into a habitable and more suitable land for the people it would seem that person is from some sort of big faction that has high-level terraforming technology or magic that they can use. As to why that person was stuck under the ground Alex can guess that the person was in some sort of cryo-pod that either malfunctioned or if it was an old version may have overshot the timeframe of the destined wake-up time before time took its toll and covered it.

As for the hunk of metal that they say was the second gift Alex had no clue if it was actually meant to land here or if it was just some sort of asteroid or space junk that accidentally entered the planet's gravitational pull. Alex would be able to tell if he was able to spend some time examining it and hopefully the system would be able to help him figure out what it is.

As Alex was connecting the dots from an outsider's perspective the old man finished his daily lecture and soon a bunch of children started leaving the hut. After waiting a bit for the stragglers to leave Alex and Sheila enter the hut.

The old man was sitting on the ground in a sort of meditative position seemingly asleep but both of them can tell that he was not asleep for different reasons. Shelia knew that he would sometimes do this after a lecture to increase his mental energy since dealing with a bunch of children was pretty difficult in and of itself. Alex could kind of relate to him since he worked at a few different schools ranging from public to private schools throughout his years of teaching and when he was trying to make a good impression on some of them to get hired full time.

Still, Alex just assumed that the old man was resting his eyes for a bit since he is old he has the excuse to get away with a lot of things young people cannot get away with usually.

"Elder I have brought Alex," Shelia says

"Hm... Alex what do you intend to do now that you have recovered," the old man asks

"I don't know much but I do know that I would be a worthy man if were not to repay your kindness for helping me," Alex says

"So I have decided to stay in this village for one year and during this time I will help around the village and repay the kindness that you have shown me," Alex says once more

"Hm... very well I will accept your offer then but you should know that we will have you work just like anyone else so do not expect any sort of treatment from anyone because you are an outsider," the old man says before standing up

"Come with me we shall see how well you are with weapons," the old man says as he walks out of the hut

Mike and Shelia follow the old man to a field with the forest surrounding the outer edges except for the way back to the village that they came from there is a bench near the path that took and on it are some weapons ranging from a bow to a stone club.

"We will start with the most useful and versatile of the weapons," the old man says while picking up a stone dagger.

These weapons are extremely primitive in Alex's eyes as the most powerful dagger can rip through the hull of a spaceship if necessary so seeing a dagger that is essentially a sharp rock attached to a small stick feels like an insult. Still, Alex knew that he should not base his judgment of the standards of this world on those in his time since there are bound to be major downgrades on such items. So Alex takes the stone dagger from the old man's grasp and starts inspecting how to use it right and what exactly Alex needs to do with the thing now that he has it.

However, before Alex can even register what is happening he is now staring at the sky flat on his back. Confused about how he got there a notification appears in front of his face.

Reading that Alex then understood what was happening, Shelia was going to beat the crap out of him to see if he was any good with a weapon. Seeing that there would be no avoiding this Alex just sits back up and looks reluctantly at Shelia and the old man who in turn were looking at him as if nothing unusual happened.

"Do you know why you are lying on the ground?" The old man asks with a slight smile on his face

"Yeah Shelia tripped my legs causing me to fall over" Alex responds while getting up and brushing himself off a bit

Shelia looks a bit surprised for a second at the fact that Alex knew but thinking about it she could have been the only one to do so since the elder is not strong enough to actually attack Alex left alone trip him with a leg sweep.

As Mike was brushing himself off he got another prompt from the system.

Seeing this appear out of nowhere and how Alex was able to see some information about whoever attacks him he was slightly dumbfounded seeing that Shelia was a lot stronger than him in various areas whether it be level or the fact that she has a lot more stuff than he does. Still, Alex knew that he was not going to get anywhere by complaining about the unfairness of life and that crap since life has already hit him with worse stuff than fighting a tough lady. So Alex takes his knife and flips it so that the blade is backward and not forwards.

Confused at what Alex Shelia takes up a defensive position and prepares for Alex to rush him with the knife. However, Alex does the complete opposite of that and instead runs away from Shelia and runs towards the forest area at the end of the field. Shelia is first confused by Alex's bizarre actions before she calmly walks over to the bench and grabs before swiftly knocking an arrow without its head on it and in a swift fluid motion brings up the bow, draws the arrow, and releases the arrow at Alex with a small amount of her strength being used.

For some reason, Alex feels danger coming towards him so he quickly turns around to see an arrow heading towards his face. Without thinking, Alex's body reacts on his own and Alex moved his body to the side while bringing his dagger up. As he does that the arrow goes flying at where Alex was just at but instead the knife that Alex was holding cuts the arrow in two while in mid-air down the center before flying off in two different directions sporadically.

When that happened Shelia and the old man look at Alex dumbfounded as they had never seen anything like that before. Now Shelia saw that cause she was a hunter and was used to seeing at farther distances than others while the old man had other means to see things from farther distances. With that out of the way, Alex walks back to the two of them who were just staring dumbfounded at him.

"Well, are we gonna continue?" Alex asks with a nonchalant expression on his face

Both of them quickly regain their composure before they nod their heads and continue to test Alex with the various weapons that are on the bench to see what use he has in the village for the next few numbers while fighting Shelia all the while.

However through that time Alex was just thinking to himself one thing 'I thought she would chase after me when I ran to the forest, but what was that just now?'
