6 The World I Must Save

"Marcus?"

Damn, she must of realized I was just faking. Hey, its not everyday you wake up on the soft lap of a girl. Especially when she can turn into a sword. Wait why did I mention that?

I lifted my head and my anxiety kicked into full gear.

"Hey, what's up."

Scarlet tilted her head and aimed it upwards,

"That is the tree canopy, we can go sit in the sun if you would like."

Oh yeah, that was a very Earth type of slang, Im no longer on Earth.

"No it's cool, um"

It was weird sitting under a massive oak tree with a red headed girl who has some connection to fire. Why is that?

"Thank you for saving me, I would have hated to become forgotten."

forgotten?

Okay, I know what needs to be done.

"Scarlet listen to me very closely and don't say a single word,"

She nodded.

"I'm not From Amaris, I come from a land so far far away that its almost as if your kind doesn't exist. I have no clue as to what is going on in this world."

Scarlet smiled.

"I know that, there are no such things as male humans."

Wait, excuse me?

"All humans are Gauntlets and female."

I pondered the words she spoke.

"So how are ya know, new humans formed?"

She giggled,

"I am not that young Marcus, you can use those words."

I laughed awkwardly.

"It's because we are immortal. We start out as just ambient life force but after a few hundred years we can cross over to Amaris were we can form links to stay longer. After our master dies we become the life force once again and the cycle continues for eternity."

Damn, nothing prepared me for that.

"So how long have you been alive?"

Scarlet's smile faded as she stared off into the rolling green hills.

"I have only been here for one hundred years, wonderingly aimlessly for an Enchanter to find me."

I swallowed hard,

"Were those Orcians Enchanters?"

Scarlet nodded, "Orcians can be Enchanters but only of their own kind, that is why we human Gauntlets are so special. We can form a link with any of the races that roam Amaris."

So even in Amaris, humans played a big role.

I wonder how Scarlet even came to be captured.

"I got captured at a spiritual gate."

Wait, did she just...

"When a Link is formed, I can feel the emotions you convey and the pain you feel."

Did that mean?

I groped my chest and to no surprise a jolt of pain shot up my body. Scarlet slightly winced.

Oh jeez.

"I'm sorry."

It was my fault for being weak that she now had bandage wrapped around her torso. If only I was stronger maybe she wouldn't have gotten hurt.

"Do not worry Marcus, Im not being sold to dark elves or being caged in a blacksmith and it is all thanks to you. You truly are my savior."

My heart stopped, or I think it did, it definitely did. I wanted to roll over and cover my face but her red eyes slowly brought me closer.

No!

I smacked my forehead with all my might. Me and Scarlet both gripped our heads. Looking at each other, we laughed aloud.

I noticed she had a clean white dress like cloth on her and a vest was now on my body.

"Thank you too Scarlet, I could have burned in that fire if it weren't for you being strong willed."

She blushed and turned away.

I guess she wasn't as confident in taking compliments than at slicing slave traders into balls of fire. Touché.

"I uh, I have to ask you something Marcus."

I raised a eyebrow and gestured toward her,

"Go ahead."

She scratched her thigh before turning to face me,

"If you come from far away then why are you even in Amaris?"

Oh, was this the moment I told her that their god sent me or was I supposed to bullshit about that part.

Taking in a deep breathe, I spoke,

"I'm here to kill Dread."

Any joy or wonder she once had was completely dissolved deep into her face.

There was a elongated period of silence.

"You aren't lying. You're intentions are pure, I can tell but why? Why would that be your one goal?"

I smiled and put a hand on her head,

"Because this is the World I must save."

A shimmer of hope flashed across her face.

"Do you know of his strength?"

I nodded before retracting my hand from her scarlet hair.

"But that is all I really know."

Scarlet sighed before pointing forward, nothing out of the ordinary.

"There were once ten great kingdoms that each housed one of the races. From West to East they are perfectly aligned. And in each of those Kingdoms their is a capital were all Enchanters and Gauntlets stay to be sent out to aid their kingdom. Dread has completely destroyed three of those capitals so far."

I felt myself tremble at the thought of a single man taking down armies of weaponized knights flashed in my head. Scary shit man.

"He walks a perfectly linear path at the same pace, clearing everything and anything from his path. No one has ever stopped him from moving in that perfect line. It so haunting watching him swing his blackened broad sword and simply sheath it."

Was this man really that monstrous. Like I knew he was formidable but this, this feeling trumps getting almost cremated by Pam's golden fire. He was nothing short of a god. Maybe I was not meant for this, hell I wasn't meant for it in the first place. I'm a fucking Ice cream man.

An Ice cream man!

"He is four days away from the next capital."

I shook myself to ignore the looming threat,

"Which is?"

"Kunglos, The capitol of the Beast Kingdom and after that it is The Orcians."

"Where is the human kingdom?"

She sighed, "We are the last in line with Dread's judgement. All of the Most powerful Links are residing there. They are training to prepare themselves for when it is their turn."

Wait.

"So the humans are just waiting patiently for their turn, they aren't even trying to help the other kingdoms?!"

Scarlet frowned and glared at the dirt,

"After the Sajins were eradicated by Dread all alliances were cut short and it is now a fight to prepare for the worst."

No, that isn't right. No matter how I look at it, that outcome does not sit tight with me. No way was this the world I expected to be saving. It was just full of cowards who did not know that banding together could save them all.

"Marcus?"

I ignored her. I stood up and surveyed the Area.

"How far are we from Kunglos?"

Scarlet also stood as she could tell I was infuriated.

"Three days away, why?"

"Tch,"

We would only make it a day before Dread did.

"We are going there immediately."

Scarlet's eyes widened with fear,

"Marcus do you have a death wi-" I placed my hand on her head again.

"Don't worry Scarlet, I have to,"

I looked onward as dark clouds started to block out the two suns.

"Because this is the world I must save."

Damn that was cheesy.
