2 The Unchosen One

"Oh no."

Pam, the god that watched over Amaris stood dumbfounded. Her deity like facade crumbled as she examined the man in front of her.

That man, was me.

"I'm,-"

Knowledge exploded in my head. It seemed all the questions were answered immediately.

My name is Marcus Salem, obviously, and I just screwed up an entire dimension parallel to mine.

In short, the man I pushed was Marcus Kale, the man whose blood was compatible with Pam. Pam was the God who ruled over the World of Enchanters, Amaris.

I just happen to have sealed its fate. Marcus Kale was chosen to be the future savior of Amaris but because of my lingering hope of wanting to be a hero. The chosen one was left back on Earth and instead, I was in his place.

"Do you know of what you have done. You bastard!"

Pam, even if she was stunningly hot, teleported in front of me. She gripped my collar and picked me up as if I was a mere feather.

"My world, my people, doomed because of you!"

I felt my body shake as her hand grasped my neck. Air no longer came in, and I started to fade into black.

"Tch,"

She threw me and I landed on the blanket of flowers that covered the rolling hills. They evaporated as I hit them.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know!"

I tried my best attempt to calm her, it did not work.

Pam opened her hands and balls of gold fire erupted, scorching the earth below her. The flowers singed and the wind started to pick up.

"I will undo my mistake and start anew."

No.

No, I didn't want to die. Even if I only owned a ice cream stand and worked as a construction worker part time, I still had a life. I still had family.

She thrusted her hands out and the gold fire coursed forward.

Was this it, was I going to die?

Me, Marcus Salem, wanted nothing more to be back on Earth, serving ice cream to kids walking home from school. Being the unspoken hero that helped those kids have a better day. No one, god or not, was going to take that away from me.

I instinctively put my hand out, the flames now took up my entire field of vision.

I closed my eyes and said goodbye to everything I once knew.

Nothing happened, my body was not turned to ash and I felt no heat that would melt me in an instant. Instead, I felt power, as if my entire soul was screaming outward.

I opened my eyes.

The flames were no longer advancing but were stationary. The gold flame seemed to be put on hold, no motion seen at all.

"How?"

Pam fell to her knees,

"In all my million years, as someone stopped my eternal flame."

The flame evaporated and I also fell to my knees.

"Pam, please."

"Keep my name out of your mouth."

She teleported again, and this time she looked at me in confusion. Luckily not rage, that was reassuring.

"You might just work. I do not know of what blood courses through you. But..."

She touched my forehead. Nothing happened. I awkwardly sat, breathing hard from the near death encounter I just had.

"Marcus, I can see the future of all I see but for some reason, I cannot see yours. Whoever you are, you no longer have a choice."

I noticed how short she was, and resembled more of a kid then anything.

"What do you mean?"

Pam looked off into the distance. I realized we were surrounded by rolling hills of flowers and the occasional tree with gold leaves.

"Listen to me very close Salem and do not say a word."

I nodded slowly, the flowers sprouting around us and the scorched dirt slowly turning green again.

"Amaris is a world driven by magic and mystical creatures. When someone is born in this world, they are either a Gauntlet or an Enchanter. Gauntlets are people who are able to take the shape of a magical weapon while the Enchanter can invoke such action. It is a relationship that resinates throughout Amaris as these relations find meaning. These relations are called Links."

It was odd hearing such controversial words but somehow, my mind did not jumble but instead, understood every word.

"All is well in competition amongst several Links fighting for power but I made a grave mistake. You see, my world has a set amount of mana that is given to each child and those who show growth but just like your world, my creations have bloomed more then ever. I being the young imbecile I am, created a being who would solve this over population issue. His name is Dread, an Enchanter who can invoke the most powerful Links in my realm and to no surprise, he did his job."

I scratched my chin as she spoke the words, not daring to say anything.

"He never stopped though, every Enchanter he defeated were consumed and built his magic power, I never noticed until it was too late. He became a monster and devoured cities of Enchanters and their links. I myself can not touch my own creations so I searched in your world for the answer."

I swallowed hard, she found the answer. I just had to go and ruin it.

"I found someone with the same power to consume as him. I just would have to use half of my strength built up over thousands of years to bring him here, but instead..."

She glared at me,

"I can not use that power again Marcus."

I knew what was going to happen,

"I, onlooker of Amaris, beg of you to try and save this world. I need a saver more now then ever. I know this is so sudden and you may be weak but...."

She bent down and was now on eye level with me.

"Amaris needs you Marcus Salem. You are not the Chosen one but you are someone who wanted to save him from possible death. Your

judgement is as good as his will ever be."

I smiled, I guess you could say I was the Unchosen one.

Wait that sounded horrible, maybe I should re thin-

Pam leaned forward and kissed me.

On the lips.

Have you ever been kissed by a god because damn, it is something else.
