4 Hurry! Invoke the Enchant

What was I supposed to do?

Her eyes seem to burrow into my skull.

In my best attempt to save my life, I put a single finger over my lips.

Nothing.

She slowly turned toward the men who were ravaging the soup. After a few seconds she turned back toward me.

She nodded.

Phew. I legit thought I was going to ruin things on day one, I'm too good for that I guess.

I signaled for her to eat and she followed without a second to spare. I kinda like this girl, she follows orders well. Wait, was that a bad thing. In my deep thought I glanced at her body more carefully. Cuts, bruises, and dried blood covered her legs and forearms.

Why, why was she in such a condition?

I know I still was in the dark about how things work around here but I think I got the memo.

I needed to save her. Being a hero and doing what was right did not even matter, just the way she seemed so hopeless bothered me the most. No one should ever be treated like that, all life was valued in my eyes. But.

I never in my life had such a urge to kill things. those two giant slave traders would surely be sorry.

How do I even save her?

I found myself staring at the dirt, that question hung in my head a little bit longer then I would have hoped.

No matter, a task was presented and I needed to fulfill it. I awkwardly thrust my fist into the air, I was going to prove that everything up until now was no mistake.

It was time to put words into action.

••••••••••••

The two men were scattered around the fire fast asleep and the girl was chained to the end of the carriage.

I crawled out of my nest and crept my way to the girl. I inched closer. I had a moment to actually notice how amazingly beautiful she was. Almost completely forgetting the reason I even came this far. I shook myself straight.

Should I wake her?

I took a moment to ponder before lightly tapping her on the shoulder.

Her scarlet eyes focused on me.

"Hello,"

I realized how creepy that sounded but it was no time to worry about my tone.

"Listen to me, those Orcians only need one hour of sleep before they are full on energy. The chains are made of Tenten steel so you won't be able to break them." She whispered in a light raspy tone.

"Woah, woah, woah."

I was already lost.

"The keys are on Gondar, the one with the axe."

Gondar?

Okay, this girl has a lot of ordering around for someone who is chained. I guess I kind of didn't like her.

"My name is Marcus."

She stared at me with awe. I guess now was not the best time to introduce myself.

Instead, she gave me the lightest smile, "My name is Scarlet."

It really stuck in my head, her having red hair and all.

"Okay Scarlet, I will help save you only if you fulfill one wish."

She looked me up and down. I got the "who the hell does this guy think he is" vibe from her and I sighed.

"Not anything bad, I promise."

"Okay then Marcus. Please save me and I will do anything you ask of me."

I got a tingly feeling in my chest as she said my name. The way her lips moved was enticing. I noticed myself going off subject and swiftly turned away,

"Be right back"

I whispered one last time before I inched myself toward...Gondar?

What kind of name was that?

*sniff*

I stopped dead in my tracks, there was one thing I completely forgot to think of. I swiveled to my right to see two monstrous beast laying still. They were far enough away that I could not touch them but I was close enough to see them better.

They were wolf like creatures that had blue and black fur. Their bellies rose up and down as they radiated some type of energy I couldn't grasp.

Woah.

Moving as slowly as possible, I loomed above Gondar. He was huge compared to me, hell, one of his biceps were larger then my torso.

Swallowing hard, I examined his belt carefully. Low and behold, the dainty sliver keys were tied to a belt loop. I expected some complicated way of getting them but hey, get what you can get.

I calmly untied the string and put my hand out to catch them as they fell. I didn't catch them though. The keys clanked on the ground and I could faintly hear the shuffling of the animals. I quickly dove over Gondar and sunk to the floor, using the big man as a shield to the hound like creatures.

Man I fuck up a lot.

I peeked over to see that the hounds were still resting. Thank Pam almighty.

I hopped over Gondar and shifted toward Scarlet, keys SAFLEY secured between my fingers.

I crouched down and put the key in the the right arm slot. Scarlet watched closely as I turned and a slight clicking noise was presented. Only we both didn't expect the heavy wrist chain to immediately fall to the ground. This time, it was ten times as loud.

I really hate myself, I'm sure Scarlet thinks the same thing.

Gondar and his companion both jolted upwards and swirled in my direction.

*sigh*

I give up, honestly fuck this whole thing.

"I knew there was another smell Conk."

Conk? Really, can the creator of these names not come up with anything else?

"Fuck you doing Gondar. Bloody murder the fool then."

The mountainous men heaved themselves to their feet.

"I'll get the hounds ready if he runs!"

They both laughed as I stood there, shaking.

Conk jogged toward the hounds and Gondar ripped the leather straps off his axe.

It seemed like they were amused by an intruder. I however, was not amused in the slightest.

Think, I had to think fast. My life was on the line and if things went south, so was Scarlet's.

After Gondar took one heavy stomp toward me, I was already in motion.

Tossing the keys at Scarlet, I sprinted forward.

I no longer had the luxury of being hidden.

Gondar smiled as he lifted his ax. Almost like a baseball player, he readied himself.

*Swoosh*

The ax exploded forward and right before it would of hit me, I slid.

What was I doing?

Without stopping myself, I continued to skate under Gondar's arm and sprint into the thick of the forest.

I did what needed to be done. There was no way in hell I was going to fight those guys but there was no way I could leave Scarlet. I glanced over my shoulder to see that she was no longer chained. Mission suc-

The huge ax nearly beheaded me. It completely ripped through the few trees that were in front of me and buried itself into the earth.

"No one runs from me human."

Gondar laughed as he started to gain speed in my direction.

"Ahoooooooooo!"

If I was not mistaken, those were howls.

"Chase after the sell you muts!"

No.

They were going after Scarlet.

"Where you lookin'?"

Gondar was already on me in seconds, a devastating punch rocketing toward me.

I wouldn't be able to dodge. Jumping up, I aimed the bottom of my shoe soles at the midst of his fingers. This move was one I copied from Spider Man. Instead of my upper torso disappearing, the punch hit the bottom of my feet and propelled me backwards. I disappeared into the forest.

"Haha, I've never seen a move like that."

I faintly smiled as I came crashing down onto branches and thorns. That move was just quick thinking, if I wanted to survive I would need to think farther ahead.

If I did a stunt like that again I could of hurt myself worse. The only injury I had was the immense pain in my feet, I got lucky.

What was my next move?

Arcing back around toward the clearing I headed in the way Scarlet might of gone. A girl against two ravenous monsters and a giant did not sound fitting. I needed to save her.

"Wait,"

A slight familiar whisper came from my right.

I crashed my foot down and crouched. Scarlet was also crouched, hidden amongst a trio of trees. I moved closer before I realized that she had no clothes on.

Doubling over I shielded my eyes.

"I'm sorry I-"

"Now's not the time, get over here."

Sucking up my pride and thinking of getting murdered, I forced myself to crouch next to her.

"Where are your clothes?!"

She mentioned for me to be quieter ,

"I attached them to multiple rabbits and the hounds are chasing them right now. However, Conk saw me come this way."

I gulped down the remnants of embarrassment and narrowed my eyebrows,

"So its two on two now, eh?"

Scarlet glanced around before getting close to me,

"This might sound like I am rushing things but I think we need to form a Link."

A what?

Oh those things Pam mentioned. Did that means she was a Gauntlet?

"I..."

I rubbed the back of my neck,

"I don't really know how to form a Link."

All the determination on Scarlet's face died as she glared at me.

"You are an a Enchanter right?"

I pondered those words for a second, "I think I am?"

She looked blankly at the dirt. We were both doomed.

"Links are formed when an Enchanter and a Gauntlet touch each other in their purest form And the Enchanter says one word, In-"

*Swoosh*

Luckily were were crouched as the entire upper section of the trees were decapitated instantly.

"Knock knock!"

Shit, I quickly rolled away as a devastating blow came crashing down between me and Scarlet.

The ground easily exploded outward and a hail of dirt and leaves went everywhere.

Once I came to my feet, I quickly turned around to see Gondar swinging in my direction again.

"Die like a good human."

I tried to evade backwards but my foot got caught on a log. The axe missed my nose by inches.

Even though the axe was easily over a hundred pounds, Gondar was swinging it around like it was just a twig.

I got a quick glimpse of Scarlet evading Conk with ease. Her moves were precise and elegant. Was she used to this kind of stuff?

"Marcus we need to Link!"

I dove for cover behind a tree as the ax dug into its trunk like butter.

What did she mean, it's pointless?

"Now!"

My mind clicked as I heard her voice crack in fear. We were both going through hell right now and if we wanted to turn the tide, we had to work together.

"Tch,"

I bit my lip as I made a b-line straight for Scarlet. Something grew within me as I drew closer. She jumped up as the sledgehammer hammer dug into the ground. Scarlet landed on the handle and pushed off aiming toward me.

Whatever she wanted to happen, needed to happen quick as we were now trapped by the mountainous Orcians.

"Say it!"

She screamed at the top of her lungs.

I winced as I saw the sledgehammer arc toward her. I stuck out my hand.

I would not make it in time, she was going to die. Right when I could have saved her.

No.

Time seem to slow down as her eyes flashed red.

My body started to work overtime as I leaped toward her.

Our hands clasped together,

"I Marcus Salem,"

Scarlet's body ignited into scarlet flames.

"Invoke thy!"

I don't really understand stand why I said those words or why in the order but somehow, I felt it was right.

The sledgehammer hit nothing as Scarlet was consumed by the fire.

Gondar grunted as he swung his axe down.

It never hit its target. Instead, the ax no longer advanced downward.

It was stationary, as if something stopped it.

I looked up to see that in my hands, a Long black Katana was arced around my head, stopping the axe.

Oh shit.
