Chapter 1 The song

"Love is not love which alters when it's alteration finds or bends with the remover to remove."

William Shakespeare (Sonnet 116)

I watch as the people line up for their daily injections. I am sitting in the back with a

group of 'friends' so deep in their phones they don't notice the line forming. Trevor, the blue

haired male who just introduced himself, looks at me with his witty smile, only making me

sweat more. I am only here to earn money for my sisters' return. The monsters who took them

only promise to return them if I, or my father, give into 'their ways.' The job I am doing

involves singing and acting for the new show, The Bass Chord, a terribly good show that has

two characters, Wretch and Fai, and they must find their way through life without their family.

The worst part about it is that I must get a chip repeatedly inserted into my arm everyday

for the next year. It was that or watch my mom and dad burn in a tragic 'accidental' house fire.

Total lie to the public, but to me it was a life jeopardizing choice. To them it meant nothing for

they chose to live a life full of themselves and this dumb elector. Brown sector. Me and my

group stand up. The brown sector is the second to last sector, we do the acting, singing, and

engineering. They call us the 'geeks' but supposedly we aren't as bad as the green sector.

That sector is for the delinquents, outlaws and downworlders. We also call them the

untouchables, their job is to clean our sewage, dress the actors, and work in factories. Then

you've got the blue sector, they are right above my sector, they are what the grey sector call the

Entertainers, they perform magic, visualize the movies, and work in restaurants as the

musicians. The grey sector are your everyday people, above the greens but below the brown.

The grey earn money by entering contests, cooking and photography. The black are the highest,

they are monks, preachers, and above all, our leaders. I hate it that we practically have to

worship them.

Then there's the pinks… I used to be one but I disobeyed my tutor and king by going out

of my way to show people the light. God showed the world love and he gets nothing but hatred

in return. I let out a low sigh, as I listen to the names and job people are assigned, some of the brown sector kids don't have a chip and that is due to the glamour tech, also known as GT. I

happen to be using it. As well as a few others i was using an older model what happened to be a

small box placed on your shoulder or upper arm it is bound by a small velcro strap, I'm

depending on it. Your color is the color of your box. I have a high-tech one. even though it is an

older model. It happens to be something that I got from the pink sector, something that happens

to keep me from being found out like most of the browns.

"Wisteria Westfall?" the robotic female voice emerged into my ear. The voice came from

the secretary at the desk. I get up allowing the blade to enter the skin of my fake arm, I used

glamor to hide the fake looking skin. It's hard to fool the secretary, but I've done it for months.

The brunette places the chip into the crook of my fake arm. Her dark brown eyes study the

placement. Ready for a fault to show in my glamor. My calm

demeanor nearly melting away as I fight the urge to give in to her pending thoughts telling me

to give up all hope.

She finally lets me go by applying the final stitch. I walk down the corridor of pure

brown. The people I work with, smiling wholeheartedly to the elector on their electronics, stand

in a straight line so perfectly fit to lead into the darkened auditorium. Our elector stood smiling

evilly at the crowd from behind their screens. EyeTech lacing the eye of the boy next to me as I

sit down. He was glancing at me from the time we started listening to this junk from the time we sat down to the time we

got up.

"Where's your EyeTech?" he asks, pointing to my face as he studied me.

"I don't have one…. I don't need a stupid screen in my eye." I growl as I turn down the

green hallway. The neon green pivoting off the walls in it's incandescent wake. I smile weakly

as i follow the melodious voice that enlightens my ears. A song I want to be stuck in my

head. nothing that could get me killed ya know but on the edge of doing so, his voice interrupted my humming. I turn to the neon green sector linking off the brown hallway

"That's green's hallway…" the boy yells after me. His voice, echoing into the hallway,

kept me from continuing on my way to the part of the world that happened to be the one place I

really needed to be. his eyes scan my form as I run to face him

"Yes, i know and the green stands for delinquent, now leave me be…" I growl. the words seething as I try not to reveal the thoughts running through my mind.

"But you don't have a key chip allowing you in there! You'll get thrown in…" he starts before I turn to face the

unsuspecting boy. My pink and blue hair swirling as I turn so fast that the green around me

seemed to weep more of it's neon color.

"Thanks for your concern but I think I can handle myself. I am very upset and I'd like

you to leave me alone…" this came out harsher than before, but I just want to be left alone. turning away I take another step allowing his

blackish blue eyes, wavering beyond the see through screen inserted in his eyes. The blue of his

shirt mocking the brown of mine, as we stand between the green downgraded halls of the

delinquent sector. The boy looks me up and down as I glare into his screen. The leader of the

fourth city, of the northern point of our depicted triangle, seemingly pointed in his statuesk form glaring as well. The look in his eyes prove to be bad

when i step towards the brown sector.

"Sorry, but you know you look to be more of a black…" he sighs making me turn, slower

than a snail, to face the blue eyed male. My eyes widen at his words, "excuse me?"

"Does it offend you? I mean you are very good looking, and you are more of a jack ass

than most of us…" he smirks.

"They will punish you for that, you are closest to the lowest in the sectors and you just

compared them to a brown?!" I sigh, "I used to be a pink, second highest in the color sectors…

then I betrayed them, I became one of the lowest colors, so please leave me alone…" my voice now leaking anger that I had held in since I walked through the double doors of this building.

"I don't have to, you're a brown and I'm a blue, i can hurt you and they'd be happy to

help." he smirks his brilliantly ugly smile, "but who cares, you are nothing but a waste

anyway." then my now wretched demeanor broke.

"Excuse me, when did you get the right to act like a black? You sadistic fool! I may be a

brown but atleast I am humble enough to even recognize the likes of you! I may be lower than

you in the human 'bitch' train, but that gives you no right to act like I am only meer gum under

your feet." I step towards him in anger, "none of us deserve to be treated like Untouchables, not

even the green's!!" people gather around prepared to chant the words 'fight, fight!' the look in

the boys now darker eyes, give me just enough thought to growl my final comment, "if anybody

deserves to feel this way, it should be you…" I left the british boy to ponder my words as I go find a place to calm down my anger rises

with each unforgiving step. The crowd splits apart letting me, the fuming brown, through. My

pink and blue locks flapping up and down like the harsh waves of the ocean.

****

Calm, cool collected… I let myself feel the words of the forbidden music long to be

forgotten. The words of the pop song moves me in a way no other song should. All the people

in this culture listen to deafeningly loud heavy metal, and fast and loud electronic music, but I

had a more complex taste in music. The song I feel compelled to listen to today is a soft melodious piano music and the upbeat drums that ripple through the air, thought to have been forgotten. The unnoticeable room long forgotten by long gathered dust and foreboding

darkness. I dance to the purposeful song that only seems to enlighten the mood I created. I sit

alone in the long forgotten hall of long forgotten books.the old and dusty radio playing on repeat as a tune of old plays.

The books ranging from nonfiction to science fiction, from young to old, and from

shakespeare to Pierce Brown, all of which begin to change the reality of our older generations.

Let's just say reading books are banned period, I am a rule breaker, I hate the law and the law

hates me. No regret and no surrender. Well I do regret leaving my sister when that man

kidnapped her, otherwise I regret NOTHING!!!

The world is a lonely place without those you love to help you through it… the thing is

though if you atleast remember them, they will never leave you, especially when you know

there's no getting them back. The only thing you get is a broken, shattered heart and a long

forgotten life as a believer.

"Hey! What are you doing in here?" a familiar male voice yells. His voice was soft yet

australian. The hint of aggression left his lips when he finally asks, "M… Miss Westfall?" his

voice nearly jumped as I turn to meet the oppressed green. My lips begin to move as he jumps

and covers the plumb colors that excite my mouth. The softness of his dirt covered fingers

alarm me as I sank my pearly whites into the skin of his hands. He muffles a scream as his spiky

blonde locks pivot in the darkness of the dusty room. the rippling that came from his green shirt dirty from something. why was he covered in dirt? why was this green in a room supposed to be locked up and he was young. fifteen maybe???

"Don't do that you goon, I hate it when people do that," My Southern voice sinking through

the stupified mind of the delinquent.

"Sorry, it's just you're in my hiding spot… I hate the guards that tried to beat me, so I ran

only to find the famous Wisteria in the old abandoned library" he smiles, his eyes scanning my skinny figure.

"Famous?" I ask lifting my eyebrow.

"You are Wisteria Westfall, right, the daughter of the famous Drake Westfall? The

Preacher of the sixteen cities!?" he began to yell. So my dad is continuing the work without me knowing... Damn lier...

"We tried to prove a point and totally ended up failing…" I sigh lifting my head to see the male shaking his own. his blond hair shaking slightly moving the dirty blond locks back and forth. not a bruise on his skin as far as I can see.

"Your father told us a lot about you, I am Tyler," he smiles weakly. "he even said you'll be the next to lead the revolution. that you aren't the chosen leader."

"What does he say?" I ask as the young exiled male smiles a wide smile, his lips widening to a very human smile. The male

looked at me excitedly as I lift a brow. the quiet speach excelling as we conversed.
