2 Chapter 2

Every detail stood out with vivid clarity. She rushed forward with her head down her long loose strawberry curls down her back, dressed in a tan trench coat and black leggings with black heels, she started to crouch down to pick something up when she seemed to heat the car screech and straightened up turning to the sound.

Michael saw her green eyes lock with his and her beautiful hair float around her as she realized what was happening. A wave of nausea struck loud thump thump of her hitting his car... the car stopped finally and she flew forward from the vehicle rolling to a stop on the asphalt ahead in a crumpled heap.

Michael tipped his seatbelt of and brought his cellphone out dialing 911.

"911 what's your emergency?"

"A woman just ran out in front of my car she's badly hurt I'm in front of the software company between Main Street and Seneca on Pennsylvania Avenue."

"Ok stay calm sir are you injured?"

"No"

"The paramedics will be there shortly sir"

The paramedics were there within a moment and they assured him she was breathing putting her on a board and neck brace they took her away. The next few hours seemed to blur together but drag on for a lifetime as he had to answer questions and make statements several times to the local authorities but when he was done and his car was towed away he took a ride from a nice young police officer who offered to take him to the hospital since he wanted to check on her.

Michael felt as though he had been the one run over but he was very worried about the girl so when he got to the hospital with the police officer they inquired about the girl and the nurse took them aside.

"It sounds like the young lady was let go today so the box she was chasing was her desk contents. She probably wasn't very clear headed at that moment so we don't think she was trying to commit suicide however there is one problem."

Michaels brow furrowed... "What's the problem is she going to be ok?"

"Maybe. With proper care but she doesn't have anyone."

"What do you mean she doesn't have anyone?"

"Well it looks like her family is all deceased and she is now unemployed, she didn't have any insurance and we don't have any emergency contacts for her."

Michael was dumbstruck. 'How can one person be that alone in the world??!'

Acting on instinct Michael said "It's fine I will take care of her."

The police officer and Nurse looked a little shocked and then the nurse poked him in the chest. "You better understand what you are getting into!" She placed her hand on her hip and got very close to him. "That girl in there is in bad shape. Sounds like she has had a rough life and though she may have hospital bills we'll take good care of her as long as she's here. I want you to think about this because taking responsibility for someone isn't something you should take lightly! She is going to need a lot of good care and someone to help her get back on her feet after this! This wasn't your fault! She ran right out in front of you and there were several witnesses not to mention the skid marks there at the scene that the police told me about so you don't need to feel guilted into this allright?!"

'Remind me not to get on the bad side of a nurse!' Thought Michael.

"It's ok I have enough money to take care of whatever expenses she has and I would like to make sure she is comfortable. Is it ok if I see her?"

The nurse gave him an exasperated look and waved her hand at him. "You'll have to fill out the necessary paperwork first since you are the only person available to take responsibility for her."

Michael had filled out the necessary paperwork and now he decided he wanted to see how she was doing. The nurse finally let him in to see her and he walked to her bedside past the old man in the first bed who was snoring loudly. The nurse had told him the first bed was basically a drunk tank until he sobered up.

Michael braces himself as he walked around the curtain.

He saw her feet first wich were stuffed into those fuzzy and uncomfortable hospital socks with grips on the sole. He saw she was not covered anymore with the blanket and realized she had kicked it on the floor with the right leg as her entire left leg was in a cast. Not surprising as she had been hit on the left side. When he looked at her to see her overall wellness he was not as upset as he could have been. She wasn't breathing labored and her face looked a bit bruised on the left but still as striking and lovely as the moment their eyes met. Her skin was pale white like cream. Here lashes were full and curled up and her mouth reminded him of his favorite actress, with a full and pouty lower lip and a very defined and curvy upper lip. Her nose reminded him of the marble statues he saw while he was in Greece. Overall he didn't think he had ever seen such a lovely creature.

Eventually Michael brought himself to really look at her injuries. Her left arm was broken and she had a skull fracture. Her left leg was shattered and her right ankle was sprained and swollen. She had a black eye on the left side and two broken ribs.

Michael swore under his breath and the girls eyes fluttered for a moment.

His heart jumped into his throat as he rushed to her side. "Are you awake?"

Ellie's eyes fluttered open slowly as she had heard someone swearing and tried to figure out where it was coming from.

She heard a warm baritone ask "Are you awake?" And now she HAD to open her eyes and see what was going on. After considerable effort she opened her eyes and slowly focused on the source of the voice standing over her.

Very close to her and with a worried face was a very attractive man. He had curly dark brown hair caramel colored skin long dark eyelashes and stormy blue eyes like a raging sea. His jaw was very defined and he looked over her tall and muscular. Oh crap thought Ellie and here I am a complete wreck with this human masterpiece standing here looking at me with concern!

Ellie suddenly felt very self conscious and tried to put her hair behind her ear. BIG MISTAKE!

Her entire being hurt and her pulse started racing when the nurse came in and gave her some morphine.

As Ellie started to fade back into sleepy happy pain med land she realized she had seen this man before. He hit her!

In a daze Ellie looked up into this gorgeous mans face and said "Dude! You hit me!"

Then promptly passed out.
