THE DISCOVERY

The atmosphere is bad, everywhere was tensed. There was starting to be a confusion, why did Jessie hate Alex and family this much? Was she trying to inherit her husband's enemies? Something wasn't just right. She went too far with the things she did. Paul watched the news and cold tears dropped from his eyes, he felt pity, sympathy, bitterness, filled with regret annoyance and pain. But something spoke calmly to him that his wife had something to do with the incident.

"Where is Linda?" Paul asked.

"I told her to retire to bed." Jessie answered without even looking at him maintaining her eye contact on the news, seems she felt pleasure from watching it.

Paul looked at his wife, wanted to say something but he doesn't seem to have the strength. He stood up gently and marched gently upstairs with tears still in his eyes.

Jessie's eyes followed him until he disappeared into the room and then she clicked her tongue in a very insulting manner.

Paul opened the room's door, turn on the lights and was about to take shower. He opened the wardrobe to pick a set of nighties to settle for that night when he realizes that he couldn't find the shirt of the particular nightie he wants to wear. He looked for it for a moment but still couldn't find it. "Where could it be?" Paul asks himself and decided to check the other side of the wardrobe which was where Jessie kept her clothes.

Paul searched for a moment but still couldn't find it, then his hand hit something, like a wooden box. He thought of what could be inside, and so Decided to check. He carried the box out and opened it, what he saw was what he couldn't believe despite the fact he saw it. A picture of Jessie and Peter smith. He opens the small wooden box well and at topmost part of the box used to cover the box he found something more scary. A picture of the ones that died earlier the day with a cross out sign on the pictures which means killed in that sense.

His hands trembled so bad with fear that the box fell from him and the loud noise caught Jessie's attention. Jessie ran upstairs but before she entered the room Paul had already returned the box to the original spot.

"I heard a noise downstairs, did something fall?" Jessie asked looking around the room.

"No." Paul said in a frightening manner and rushed into bathroom.

Soon after, Jessie opened her wardrobe to check the box, she placed her palm gently on it and smiles.

In the bathroom, Paul was as drown in thoughts. He thought about a lot, and then he realized all this while Jessie just wanted revenge.

Ella gently bends towards the bed and picks up her mother's diary which she only used a page.

"You are mine now." Ella says gently and puts the diary inside a small handbag she was carrying.

"Are you set?" Vivian asked.

"Yes."

Ella replies and walks out carrying holding a small traveling bag with her. She looks round the house with very pitiful eyes and whispers to herself. "The moment I set a foot in this country again, it would be to kill those who ruined my life." She enters the car with Mrs Vivian and off she went…. To a strange place to start a new life and plan on how to take her revenge.

The next day Paul offered to take his daughter to school. Driving her to school he asked something which seemed strange.

"Linda, you attitude to your class mates."Paul said and stops for a second then continue. "Especially Ella in particular, is there something you want to tell me about it?"

"Tell you about it?" Linda asked.

"Yes, like someone asked you to do it on purpose."

That statement took Linda off, Paul noticed the fear in her eyes. Something was definitely wrong.

"No."Linda stutters. "I did it because I don't like them."

"Linda, you can talk to me. I am your father." Paul tried to convince her.

"Father?" Linda scoffs. "But Mom says you don't like us or cater for us. She says you are still in love with your past lover."

"What?" Paul asks in shock and parks the car to have a good conversation with his daughter. "How can your mother say that to a child like you?"

"Why?did she lie?" Linda teased. "You never showed me any fatherly love whatsoever."

"Linda, I am sorry if I have offended you in any manner. I promise to make it up to you." Paul pats his daughter on her shoulder. "So, did anyone ask you to be mean to Ella on purpose?"

"No." Linda retorts with fear. "I did it because I don't like her."

Paul already had his answer, but he just wanted her to say it. He nods in agreement and says. "Alright my baby girl. But may I ask y you don't like her?"

This time Linda was already covered with sweats, she swallowed her spits and her eyes moved around with fear.

"If I tell you, please don't tell mom. She said she would abandon me if I told anyone."

"What did you just say? Abandon you?"

Linda nods in agreement with fear.

"Mom told me to make life very hard for Ella, she told me to do the same to a few people too so that it won't look suspicious. So I- I-" Linda stutters.

Paul held his daughter small hands with the hope of giving her confidence. "Go on."

"So I added Ella's close friends to the least." Linda sobs. "I acted as a bully to Ella and her friends, now everyone hates me." Linda cries loudly. "I was only following my mom's orders, I did it because I didn't want her to abandon me."

Paul was speechless, all this while he was living with a monster that even threatened her own daughter. Was he even sure Linda was his?.

"It's okay my daughter." Paul gives his daughter a hug. "I am here for you, be nice to everyone, is that clear?"

Linda nods in agreement. "Yes daddy."

"Come to think of it my baby girl, you look lean. Is it the school stress?"

She touches her face with both palms and say. "Really? It could be the school stress"

"I will have to run a blood test for you, just to be sure."

Paul pulls out some syringe from some sort of place then took little of Linda's blood. He wanted to get a DNA test.

The DNA came out positive, at least Jessie did one good thing for him. He though of turning her to the police or just taking his daughter and then leave the house for her, but he didn't want to act rash. He wanted to be sure of what to do, who knows his life might be in danger if he acts rash.

Paul was confident enough he could now confront his wife, as he sat inside the car, staying right in front of the gate. He stared pitifully at his house.

"I can't even call this place home, this is just an empty building that I will for the rest of my life regret ever in moving to." Paul whispers to himself solemnly. "I really want to leave this place and start a new life with my daughter but I am so scared at the same time"

Paul drove in and noticed his BELOVED monster like wife had a visitor, they were talking or negotiating about something in the compound. The visitor was a man probably in his early twenties, he seemed young and fine but didn't look responsible. The young man greeted Paul immediately he came out of the car.

"Good afternoon sir." Andrew greets.

"Hello." Paul replies and faces his wife."Don't you think it's rude to keep a visitor outside?"

"We have been inside since, he is about to leave. So I am seeing him off." Jessie answers with smiles written all over her face.

The fact that Jessie was good at pretending and acting was what pissed Paul off the most. "How can a human being be this cruel?" He though in his mind. "What is your name?" He asked the young visitor.

"My name is Andrew." He replies.

"Andrew, let's have a drink the next time we see."

Paul says and walks out immediately. Jessie looked at him and clicked her tongue in a very insulting and sarcastic manner, the act was becoming an habit though.

"Your husband looks handsome." Paul comments.

"Don't be carried away and keep an eye on him. We never can say he might want to act rash and decide to spoil my revenge." Jessie takes a deep breath. "I am beginning to get pleasure with what I am doing."

"You deserve that pleasure, After all Peter did to you, he deserves it. He should be enjoying the time of his life with his beloved wife in hell now." Andrew ends his conversation with a good smile.

"Exactly." Jessie laughs gently. "That's enough for today, we would discuss better tomorrow."

They end their conversation and Andrew exit the house.

Jessie walked in house and saw her husband eating the food she had already dished out for him earlier. She smiles and says in her mind. "Know your place and be humble no matter what you see or know. That is the only way you would live long."

Just as if Paul read her mind, he smiles back at her and says in his mind. "I would act like a dumb fool just like you want, then gather enough evidence to put your monster life to an end."

"Are you enjoying the food?" Jessie asks as she approached him.

"Of course, the food tastes very delicious than usual." Paul replies.

“Some things are best left unknown, but when you DISCOVER them by chances, would you turn a blind eye?”
