Mark's woman giving her a bath? She couldn't accept that.
"You can't do this," the girl said, clearly flustered. "Mark said..."
"Mark said, Mark said. Can't you think for yourself? Do you have to follow everything he says? Do you have a brain of your own?" Avery Miller rattled off, leaving the girl speechless. The girl's wide, teary eyes looked at her with a mix of nervousness and fear.
Seeing her like this made Avery even angrier. "Stop looking at me like that. You're making me uneasy."
She was telling the truth. The girl's deeply wounded expression made Avery question if she was really that harsh, if she was bullying this girl who seemed so much more fragile than herself.
The girl's face turned slightly red as she lowered her head, looking at the bath sponge in her hand.
"Ms. Miller, let me help you with the bath."
