2 The Storm Begins - Raven

Raven opened her eyes to the sound of alarms going off and smoke slowly filling her room. She stayed alert and tried to listen to anything that may be going on outside. Focusing her mind as she has always been taught.

Crashes and curses could be heard outside and know her brother or mother could be out there she went to go check. Sol stayed close behind her as she peeked out of the door, and he let out a small whine.

Smoke filled her room once the door opened and the smell of burnt food filled the air, the overhead fan could be heard low and constant but more smoke was made then the fan could pick up. Sol let out a bark when Raven took off but she paid no mind to him. She coughed from all the smoke coming from the pans, hurriedly grabbed a stool, and turned off the eyes.

"Sol, mama is no good at cooking," she sighed as she got off the stool, "Why she let this burn so much. What is she doing?"

Raven was giggling from her own thoughts as she went around opening the windows . Sol stayed close to her keeping his ears perked up in alert. This happened often enough in the house that she knew what needed to be done.

Another loud bang was heard from her mother's room and Sol growled softly trying to nudge Raven away by pushing her legs. The poor baby cub was still too small compared to her so it was to no avail. Instead, Raven skipped towards her mothers room with a big smile, thinking that her mother probably just dropped something. She always viewed her mother as a little clumsy.

"Mama! You burned the food again. But no worries I got it all covered," she threw the door open and playfully teased her mother. Suddenly, her eyes opened wide and she became speechless. Raven's body began to shake as she let out a small whimper. She saw her mother's room destroyed with clothes scattered on the floor, pillows thrown around, broken pieces scattered about, and then her mother.

A hand wrapped around her mothers neck, another trapping her hands over head. Her mother was unable to move. Raven's eyes trailed down and she saw that her mothers feet were a little off the floor. She was stunned in silence looking at the situation.

Then her eyes fell on the owner of the hand around her mothers neck and she stumbled back. A pair of deep black eyes stared at her making her feel like she was drowning in a pool of tar. Sol supported her from behind to help her not fall over, while getting ready to attack at any moment.

"Leave. This does not concern you, Raven. Do not enter this room again without knocking or you will be punished." Her father's deep voice commanded and the little five year old girl jumped at his voice tears starting to form. Her little heart beating so fast she felt out of breath. She backed out of the room and closed the door as silent tears fell.

Sol nuzzled at her heels trying to comfort her and calm her down. She ran off to her brother's room and flung herself on his bed without any words she started crying loudly her brother's frail small hand gently ran through her hair.

A small breeze filled the room and wind chimes sounded. The chimes were calm, lulling her into a daze. Raven was forced out of her trance from the sounds leaving her mothers room. She jumped when another loud bang was heard.

Her brother continued to pet her hair to calm her down. As the wind chimes continued a voice harmonized and vocalized a melody along with it. With that no more sound entered the room.

An hour later of crying all that was left was a few hiccups, she sat up to look at her brother with puffy eyes. He just grabbed a wet towel and wiped the remaining tears off her face.

"Hm." She nodded her head letting him know she is feeling better. She look in the eyes of her brother. Two pairs of heterochromatic eyes met, one hazel-green the other a frosty blue. The two were opposite in all looks. Her hair long black with white streaks through it and his short white and peppered with black.

She always tried to play with him outside but since he was always so sick he stayed in. That made her skin more Olive to his pale color.

People knew they were twins not by how similar they look but how perfectly opposite they were.

Movement at the door startled her thoughts and moved towards her brother to block him. She was scared of her father but her brother came first.

The twins loosened a breath when they saw a woman enter and speak tenderly, "Are you guys gonna come out here to eat or do you plan to be hungry."

A big smile formed on Raven's lips and she forgot all her worries as she bounded over to her mother.
