"Where did you learn to give diplomatic answers like that?" The queen asked, shocking Aria out of words. "I've noticed it quite a few times now." she continued, "Your way of walking, the way you carry yourself, your expressions, your little movements. And specially your way of talking, everything screams royalty. And as far as I have been told, you belong from a small village."
"So I am curious to know. Where did you learn all this?" Queen Amber finished and stared intently at Aria.
Though Aria was still outwardly too shocked to give any answer, her mind was racing at lightning speed. After evaluating many possibilities, she concluded that ignorance was the best answer she could give. The story she had been telling everyone up till now would have to work for the Queen too.
So she just shrugged and replied, "To be honest, I really have no idea. I am sure you know, but I remember nothing about my life before Victor found me in that river. I might have been a royalty, but no one ever cared enough to come looking for me."
Queen Amber's gaze was quite pointed when she said, "You do realize that makes you the perfect candidate to be my daughter?" She continued when Aria didn't reply, "You have no idea about your origins, you have a great affinity to elements, the manners ingrained into you certainly scream royalty. All this on top of our very similar hair and a little bit alike features."
Aria blinked a few times. Was she really going to be declared the princess of the water kingdom? Would she have to go through those endless formalities and fake smiles once more. But being the water kingdom's princess shouldn't be so horrible. The queen doesn't seem to stand too much on ceremony after all, some little portion of Aria's heart whispered and she sighed. "Aria? Aria??" The queen's voice brought her back to the conversation.
She let out a chuckle and replied with a smile, "You are obviously correct in your first three points. Everything about me does scream royalty, many people have told me thus. And if you want, you can declare me to be your daughter. I am sure no girl in the whole kingdom would have any clams being declared the princess." "But you don't believe yourself to be my daughter." Amber asked with a frown.
Aria shook her head and said, "Surprisingly enough, I don't. Though I can never be one hundred percent sure, and I would be on top of the moon if you really were my mother, I just . . . . . do not really feel any connection to you." "But I know for a fact that can be developed, I love mother, Sonia, the woman who adopted me, just like a daughter would love her mother I believe." she hastily added, seeing Queen Amber's face fall.
"Thank you." was the queen's only reply in a small voice.
"Plus I don't think our features really match." Aria said, changing the topic, "Our hair, though obviously golden, aren't really the same shade. Plus, if one was to look closely, our faces are nothing alike." "But I could easily say all this you have inherited from your father." Queen Amber said with a smile.
Aria's face also broke in a smile.
