9 Personal Disciple

John was shocked after hearing this as he knew how big this deal was.

"David from now on you are my disciple, come with me to my room I need to talk about something. Akira and Renji Join me as well. Hina shows Mr. Carter around the dojo." Hiroshi said

Hina understood that her grandpa wanted to speak to David privately so she has to keep Mr. Carter busy.

John didn't think much of it and he himself wanted to explore the dojo.

Hiroshi went to his room followed by his sons and David.

"David go change and then come to my room" Hiroshi said

David went to change while three people were sitting in the room.

"Both of you will never speak of anything about David in the family. I don't want anything about him in the media. I have already seen his quirk file and have sealed all his records. If anyone even tries to access it directly launch an investigation. The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long."

" Got it, father. What makes you favor him so much? " Renji asked while Akira also had the same question on his mind.

"Many things but I'll tell u the most notable one. Tell me you must have heard that many people compare chess to real-life strategies. How accurate do you think they are?" The old man said while looking at his sons.

"Of course, you have asked us this before once. Chess represents real-life strategies to a great extent. Even you taught us many strategies using chess." Akira said.

"Everyone I asked gave me the same answer including our family members not realizing that it was the most important test question of their life. Your answer is right that's because even I don't have what it takes to think outside the box. In chess, people like us plan a few moves ahead but people like him plan games ahead. They know how to cause negligible changes in a matter but in such a way that the outcome is completely opposite. My elder brother was from my father's first marriage. His strategies are what made us what we are today. Even today I don't understand many of his tactics. I remember that I don't understand what he is thinking and he gives me a weird feeling that I can't describe. Even till his death he never encountered anything that he didn't anticipate. David gives me the same feeling and as always I will follow my gut instinct" Hiroshi said while looking out of the window.

"His eyes at such a young age gave me chills. I can't even imagine what he becomes when he grows up" Akira said while chuckling.

"It's good then that he is on our side" Renji said with a chuckle to which even Hiroshi nodded and then they heard a knock.

"Come in David" Hiroshi said and gave a look to his sons to act casual to which they nodded.

David entered the room and saw the three people looking at him. The old man told him to sit and Renji served everyone tea.

"David when it is just the three of us act like the real you." Hiroshi said and the next moment he started getting that feeling again but this time the expression of David hadn't changed. Hiroshi's sons also got the same feeling

"Sure sir, so what is the test?" David asked while sipping his tea.

"Didn't you just pass the test?" Akira said and Renji had the same confusion as they looked at Hiroshi.

"What makes you think that the fight wasn't the test?" Hiroshi said with an amusing smile.

"Any musclehead with some experience can do that. It doesn't matter how much pressure is applied but where the pressure is applied. The fight wasn't a test it was a threat to your grandchildren that if they didn't work hard they could lose their position to an outsider. You could have hidden the fact that you wanted to take me as a disciple from everyone and revealed it at the last moment but that wouldn't break their bubble but instead, they would turn against me and try to get rid of me. But you revealed it to your family in advance so that they could see the fight themselves and their bubble would burst but instead of an enemy, they would see me as their competitor. " David said in a calm and indifferent tone as if it was common sense.

"Dad is that right?" Renji said while Hiroshi nodded

'Holy shit... Dad was right a negligible change and a completely opposite result. Even in my wildest dreams, I can't think this way.' Akira thought

"The strategy is my brother's so you don't have to worry about something like this happening again. Now the test is a question which I asked almost everyone I practically know and I got an answer which I think is right but I know is wrong" Hiroshi's tone became serious towards the end and even his smile had disappeared. He then asked the same question he had asked his sons a few mins ago.

"Please tell me I am wrong. After all these years it feels as if this question has chained me" Hiroshi said in a soft tone as if he was tired of an eternity of pain and suffering.

Akira and Renji became gloomy seeing their dad like that. For them, he was a mountain and they never thought a day like this would come.

" Yes master your wrong and the explanation for that is very simple" David said with a slight smile on his face

Hiroshi's face lit up and he looked at David with anticipation.

"Emotions... that's what is the biggest reason that the strategies are different from chess. Emotions make people do things that they thought were unimaginable. A mother who can't protect her wallet from a common pickpocketer and feels helpless in front of him can become a Grim Reaper to even experienced killers if her child is in danger. In chess, there are no lies as everything is seen from above, but in real life, even for a low-level infiltration, you have to build a web of lies. In chess, there are no traitors, but in real life, a single traitor can change the course of millions of lives." David said while listening to each sentence made Hiroshi feel being freed little by little.

David was about to say more but Hiroshi stopped him saying that he needs time to digest everything.
