Barnock "We don't exactly have options right now, we either sit here and wait until Diablo sends more creatures at us, risk our survival camping in the forest, or delve into some elven ruins... I for one think the latter the best choice." he says.

Selina hops on her heels, "Oh! I've always wanted to go dungeon crawling!"

Mathias thrumbs his fingers on his staff before sighing, "Let's find us an Elven ruin then, better we have more time to rid it of the traps and monsters before we have to defend it against Diablo." he says, taking another glance at the map to see their progress.

Quennie "Elven ruins were typically built on the tallest parts of regions, the reason they still stand today is because they were monuments to the races power at the time. Created to watch over the region, even if the Elves would someday have to leave... Uncle Vesemir said that they were arrogant monuments, I'm still unsure what he meant."

Barnock ignores the latter philosophical half of what she'd just said and gestures at a direction that seems to be inclining higher than the rest. "Let's go then, even if Diablo isn't sending more, the corpses will surely attract unwanted attention." he says as he begins walking, eventually finding his suspicion was correct as the trees dwindle and the hill turns into a small mountain.

The mountain itself looked almost too symmetrical to be natural, Mathias guessing that it'd been carved into this particular shape with magics, the telltale signs of stone-shearing spells readily apparent.

It takes an hour of diligent hiking when they finally spot the marble material typically used for Elven constructions. If it wasn't obvious enough already then the Elderspeech inscriptions were like being shouted the answer.

The ruins themselves sat at the peak of the mountain, the marble floor the only thing still somewhat undamaged, the pillars that used to hold up the roof seem to have been broken in half, that or a Dragon didn't like the roof existing and deciding to destroy it themselves.

Rubble from what was left of the roof was strewn about the floor, though none of it gave any indication about what'd caused its destruction. The group wandered into the ruins while warily keeping watch of any traps.

However, after looking around for a while they didn't find anything, nothing that'd indicate the existence of an underground passage.

Quennie "This isn't right... Most Elven structures had underground access due to their building themselves not being suited to hold goods. Their beautiful architecture was more for the eyes than practical use... Perhaps the answer is hidden under the rubble?"

Barnock shrugs and starts tossing the rubble out of the ruins and down the mountain they'd just clambered up... If any monsters had dared follow them they were completely outta luck... The boulder-sized pieces of marble rolling down the mountain like a horror version of Indiana Jones.

Eventually, after Selina has used an Aard sign to blow away the dust, they discovered strange inscriptions covering the ground, it was as if a book had been written in stone beneath their feet... The words all gathered in the middle of the ruins where three circles seem to be located, circles that were able to be moved?

Mathias "Seems like a puzzle to me... Anyone understand this gibberish?" he asks, receiving nods from Quennie and Selina.

Quennie "This is Elderspeech, the oldest language in this world, and as a result, most magical... This is the language most spell casters chant to cast magic."

Selina picks her ear and asks, "What's it say?"

Quennie gives her an irritated look, "You know what it says, you know how to read this... Auntie Yennefer drilled it into your head."

Selina shrugs, "But you're so much better at it than I am sis." she groans.

Quennie "Fine..." she relents, crouching down to examine the circles... The worlds written on them seemed to line up with one another, the outside of the circles having text that was immovable. It looked as if you needed to line up the correct sentences and something would happen.

As soon as she understood the method to completion, she started attempting to decipher it... The circles contained rather racist passages, but not in the way you'd expect... It seemed the Elves viewed another group of Elves as inferior, there was a passage describing them as the true traitors of their race...

The words that were able to be viably used here were Aen caed , and Aen cáerme ... The former meant Forest Elves, and the latter could mean a number of things, Fated Elves, Elves of Destiny, and many more...

The sentence they could be connected to accused one group of being traitors to the other, Quennie knew much about this worlds history, but she'd not heard much about "Forest Elves" and "Fated Elves" before... However, she was pretty sure that the Aen Seidhe were the ones who created the ruins, and Aen Seidhe roughly translated into People of the Hills... Forests and Hills weren't all that dissimilar right?

Nodding to herself, Quennie slowly dragged the stone flooring into position, and just as she connected the sentences that accused the Aen caerme of being traitors-

*BANG!*

The pillars around them explode, sending marble shrapnel everywhere! Mathias reacted quickly and raised a shield around them all, managing to deflect all of the stone shards that've probably heavily injured some of them.

Mathias "What was that?" he asks, looking down at Quennie.

Quennie blushes slightly in embarrassment, "I may have got the answer wrong..."

Mathias rubs his face while looking at the pillars, "Hm, you'd expect something a little worse for triggering a trap wouldn't you?"

Tyrael shakes his head and gestures upwards, "Had the roof not been previously destroyed, it would have crushed us underneath it. With the pillars gone there's nothing to support it."

Barnock "Ah... Smart."
