7 A Decision

Jess had been twisting and turning for the past couple of hours, but sleep still eluded her. So she thought perhaps a glass of milk would do the trick as she made her way to the kitchen.

The kitchen lights were on and she found that she had company.

"What are you guys doing up so late?" Jess asked as she walked in.

"Couldn't sleep. What about you ?" Michelle asked.

" Me neither" Jess replied. "I' m heating a glass of milk. Do you guys want some?"

"Yes, we would love some" they replied.

"This brings back memories" Sarah started. "Remember how we used to huddle together in one bed as we talk late into the night."

"Yes and how mad Aunt May got if we'd sleep in and got late for classes" Jess said.

"We could tell each other anything then. We had no secrets between us. What happen to us girls?" Michelle asked.

"We grew up" Sarah offered.

"I miss our talks. I miss us this way with our barriers down letting each other in. I missed you girls a lot" Jess stated.

"We feel the same. This just goes to show how an hour of need draws people together" Sarah said. "I just can't get over the fact that Aunt May is dying."

" This is hard on all of us but the sooner we accept it, the better we can cope with what's ahead" Jess stated.

"I just wish we had more time. I regret not spending enough time with her these past years" Michelle voiced out.

"I feel the same too" Sarah said.

"Girls, I have been thinking and I know this might sound crazy but why don't we spent the summer here with Aunt May. We could be there for her and take turns in caring for her. Mammy is there but I know she would be more at ease if we all were near her" Jess proposed. "I'm not writing at present but I could always write anywhere. I could free my schedule for the summer"

"I'm not shooting anything at present except for a few ad commercials. I could push them to autumn. With a few adjustments here and there I could free mine too."Michelle chimed in.

" I'm due a vacation too so I could take mine in the summer" Sarah said. "But Jess have you thought this through. Remember small towns have long memories"

"Yes, and I just know the press is going to have a gala knocking themselves out in figuring our stay here. What if the past gets out? What of the scandal? What if it cost us our careers?"Michelle pointed out.

"Michelle, all of us are in the public eye everyday. One of these days the press is going to lay our past in the open. We could never escape even if we wanted too" Jess pointed out. "Maybe like Aunt May said, its time to let it go. Frankly I'm tired of running away. Aren't you girls too? I think we should confront our demons and fight them head on. Lets worry about tomorrows when the time comes. Lets just do this for Aunt May but mostly lets do this for us too. So are you in or out?"

"You are right. Lets do it. I'm in" Sarah said.

"Me too" Michelle said.

The three women held out their hands and made a promised to be there for the woman who brought them together and made them sisters.
