"It's dark... I can't feel anything... where am I?..."

"wait... is that a light"

___

-Frosp District, Green Lake City-

As Mo He gradually became conscious, he began to open his eyes.

'Huh, I'm alive. I was sure I had died.'

Mo He suddenly gasped

'Could this be the afterlife'

*sigh*

'looks like I successfully made it to the afterlife'

Mo He was somewhat happy, but his thoughts were soon rendered false. When he tried to stand up he noticed he was unable to.

'Why can't I stand up?'

Only now did he notice that he was wrapped in a blanket, rendering him immobile. Combined with the knowledge of how small his body was, Mo He suddenly came to a realization.

'No way! Could I have been reincarnated?!'

While he was not sleeping or drinking, Mo He was a frequent reader of reincarnation and transmigration novels, so the situation he may currently be in was not unfamiliar to him.

Just as he was processing his revelation, a person approached him. The person approaching was a female that appeared to be in her late 30s. She was wearing a maid outfit with numerous tools that looked to be infant-care related, hanging from her waist area. She had silky, pitch-black hair tied in a bun; her gentle gaze that of a mother.

"looks like this one is still sleeping"

She released a light giggle and walked off to somewhere else.

The baby in question was definitely not sleeping and was only faking it.

'phew, that was a close one'

Mo He knew that if he was indeed a baby, then he would no doubt be treated like one and as much as he enjoyed having a second chance at life, he did not want to experience being a baby twice; even if he didn't remember the first time.

groowwll

Of course, his body wouldn't allow this way of thinking.

'dammit, she's going to come back over here'

"looks like you're finally awake little one. And judging by the sound of your stomach, you must be hungry as well."

The woman smiled lightly and slowly picked Mo He up.

"Feeding time"

"WAAAAAA(NOOOOOO)"

___

(2 years later)

It's been two years since I reincarnated, and my daily life so far has been eating, sleeping...pooping, and the occasional kid coming up to me and playing with me. In the last two years I've gotten a general grasp of the situation I'm in. The place I reincarnated into is some orphanage that, from the looks of it, doesn't have much funding. The caretakers are nice though and although I hated being a baby in the beginning, after the first 3 weeks I got used to it. The maximum age of children I've seen here is 12, so this orphanage might not accommodate teenagers. Also I've noticed that there are not that many caretakers here as well. While there are around 50 of just infants alone, there are only around 12 caretakers here. This orphanage must be in the lower class of society. I'm not complaining of course. They've taken care of me for two years while my parents are nowhere to be found so I'm very grateful.

I'm able to walk and talk now as well, but to keep a low profile I've limited the words I've used as to not arouse suspicion or have anybody think I was weird.

While walking around the orphanage I stumbled upon the library and found out that where I am isn't the same earth I'm from. Well it's more accurate to say it's not the same time period I'm from.

I actually reincarnated 50 years in the future!

I also read that some time 30 years ago there was a great calamity that befell the earth. Thousands of golden beams the size of South Korea struck the earth and obliterated 30% of the population leaving the earth with only around 5.5 billion people; however, in the last 30 years, the population has almost doubled, increasing the population to 30% more than the original population. This was a result of the residual energy of the beams integrating with the human body therefore becoming the catalyst to a minor evolution in humans that happened to increase fertility.

Birthrates weren't the only thing that improved. The medical industry had also made major leaps in technology. Dozens of incurable illnesses could now be cured with the discovery of a new element: Obscenium. Humans found out that, although the beams were dangerous, the substance they were composed of was relatively harmless in small amounts. Not only was the substance not dangerous but It was also helpful to the human body as not only could it increase fertility, but it also had a rejuvenating function that could fill the body with energy and strengthen it as well. It could also be used as an energy source and was completely safe for the environment as well as being abundant and more efficient than anything used previously, thus eliminating the need for oil and other unrenewable resources.

Countries with a large quantity of Obscenium quickly rose to power, and companies who were originally flourishing, went broke overnight. The shift of economy greatly changed the power structure of the whole earth with China absorbing every Asian, European, and Australian country, and North and South America becoming one power. Both of the powers were renamed the Eastern alliance and the Western alliance respectfully. Despite the shift in power, all systems of government and the different cultures remained the same and separate.

Aside from a shift in economic power and numerous technological advancements, there was one more thing that humans considered to have changed the world as we know it, and that was the appearance of...

Superpowers!

Around a 5th of the population showed signs of physiological, almost supernatural, change. Things that were originally impossible could now be done. Two hundred years ago, things that would be considered witchcraft like becoming invisible or controlling flames, are now a common occurrence you'd see on the street. Things you'd only see in comic books or tv shows, had become the norm; There are even events based around these powers now.

Although superpowers are common now, that doesn't mean that they're accepted. There are certain groups dedicated to hunting down and subduing people with superpowers. The general public has mixed feelings about them. Some love them, some fear them, and some despise them. either way there's nothing these people can do to change how they are so the persecution won't be stopping anytime soon. The public has labeled people with superpowers as eccentrics and their powers as eccentricities, grouping them as a whole new race and separating them from human standards. Even after 50 years, the stupidity of humans hasn't changed one bit.

And the thing responsible for all of this, the calamity that pummeled the earth those 30 years ago, has been named the Evo-Catalyst, the event that greatly sped up human evolution and ushered in a new era: the era of Eccentricity.
