“In case of emergencies,” the friend told the police.

“Like when Tommy needed a fuck buddy,” Dylan muttered when he read that bit of information in the morning edition of Tuesday’s newspaper.

So any second now the cops could descend, wanting to know if I killed him.

That idea scared Dylan, even though he was expecting it to happen. He wondered, since it was in the news now, if he should make a preemptive strike and go by the police station to tell them he’d seen Tommy earlier on the night of his death. Or not. If by some fluke of luck they don’t know I was there…Besides which, we do have a history, so for all they know I could have left prints there a week or a month ago.

All those thoughts, and more, ran through his head as he got ready for work. In the end, he decided to ride it out and deal with the police if it became necessary and not before.
