62 Chapter 62 - Battle part 3: memory

Issei POV.

I stood seeing the scene unfold before with boundless corpse laid on the ground when man with an enormous sword walked among the deceased. The man did not shred any pity not regret yet his eyes held so much pain.

It was the same as mine where I've lose everything. I never been able to know the life of Raynare's brother but when I found out the truth, I gave them a proper burial with the regret they held.

I continued to watch and saw him being chased down by a monstrous creature. It was certainly a demonic creature with the pure intent of destruction. I realize they were nothing but stray devils following this man.

He slaughtered them all with his aimless journey. I was inside the mindscape for numerous years and yet the man never age remain youth. The man who wishes to die yet a body that refused.

In my life, we walked a similar path but in my case, I had something that held me cling to my life and that is the promised with them. This man clearly curses to live for eternity fighting killing and aimlessly roamed the world.

'Its like looking at a mirror….for what reason do I continue watch and not end this?'

I wonder for my strange action but I knew that I needed to finish this Then I will find something. The man took a rest on tree breathing heavily tired from his dangerous journey.

"Mister are you alright?"

A young voice called out and a saw a small child with long dark hair wearing summer dress with a small dark wings behind her. I instantly knew it was raynare when she was a child.

'Alright I need to bury that in my mind cause Raynare is really cute.'

Saving the image in my mind, the man didn't respond and only groin in annoyances. He remain quiet resting on the tree while young Raynare approaches him without fear.

This cause the man to be shocked and knew it was due to some curse for him to be hated by all life. I saw it when small children passed by him.

"You should take care of yourself, mister. People might get worried about you getting hurt."

"Humph."

"Don't humph me! Oh I forgot I'm Raynare, can you tell me your name mister?"

"You won't tell? Well okay I'll call you Mr. Frowny!"

The man was annoyed being named by the young ray re which made me chuckle from her action. She proceeded to encircle the man looking at him with every inch.

"Mr. Frowny why do you have a giant sword? Did you join the Great war?"

"…"

"Well my mama and papa join helping Azazel-sama fight off the big bad devils but they hadn't return and said went far away."

My heart ache knowing that her parent had died in the Great war which is why she hated wars when she grew up. War doesn't benefit anyone nor anything as it would only cause destruction and death. Though, I won't deny conflict make someone stronger but pieces and progress is much better.

'Wait is this telling that someone else start the war? I knew I have the True maou bloodline and that voice clearly isn't evil as he could easily consume my body. Does that mean an outside force use them?'

I wonder to myself knowing the four major which is Lucifer, leviathan, Asmodeus, and Beelzebub started the great war but where was Satan? Was he the one that influences them? The one that led them? No, if it was the case then the four Maou wouldn't have died that easily with the help of Satan.

'Satan had [Nihility] which would easily defeat them but why didn't he help them? If I have to guess someone defeated him or he betrayed them. No….did the outer God orchestrated the great war!?'

I didn't have solid evidences to support it and Big G doesn't respond in question not the Administrator. I guess I have to slowly piece together everything or go the mindscape then search for Devil history. Thankfully I have perfect memory that acts like a google search.

I resumed my observation seeing Raynare was playing with a flower while the man rest his eyes for moment but awoken when young Raynare place flower crown.

"There you look better Mr. Frowny."

"…."

"Mr. Frowny let's play!?"

"You don't want to then I'll make you!"

She proceeded to flapped her wings then sat down his shoulder that made him grunt in frustration but ignored her as raynare lean forward falling on the ground. The man gave small chuckle that was heard by Raynare who gave wide smile despite the pain on her bead.

"Yehey Mr. Frown smiled!"

The man ignored her while she pouted trying to force him to laugh again. The vision continued as I became a witness in their time together. Raynare slowly grew in into her pre-teens always visiting the man who laid on the tree resting.

"Gut…that is my name."

The man finally told his name after so many years. Raynare was quite surprised that he can speak since she believes he was mute.

"Gut-nii why do you always frowning?"

He was taken aback being called by his name with the added horrific. I could clearly see that he was happy hearing this name from the little gear that kept him accompany after so many years. The only reason why he couldn't move was his body was too weak and needed to time repair.

"…No this is just how my face is."

"Bleh you lying Gut-nii. Penemue-san told me that people is clearly lting when take few second to answer."

"Hey don't ignore me!"

I chuckled seeing the two-act as if they were siblings. It made me wonder if my older siblings that miscarriage would we be the same? Time passed by as Gut finally stood where he was and hesitated to take a step looked back at the tree here Raynare had both their names. He had a pain expression but resolve himself in moving forward.

"So you're leaving her? It's been a while that I've seen you black swordsman. The man who had been betrayed by his close friend who becomes a servant for devils?"

He rose his gigantic blade to the owner of the voices and saw the person I knew very well, Azazel. He was quite different than the future.

"You know that the Great war had ended and that friend of yours is currently hiding. Jeez, you he was quite a troublesome fellow."

"….Tell me where he is."

"Hold there, kid. Tell me are you willing to leave her for your vengeance?"

"I see I understand. Your friend last spotted in another continent in the northern region."

He turns back at Azazel but pauses for a moment contemplating if he should continue his meaningless journey.

"Please make sure she forget about me."

The vision change into a pitch-black void where I saw man-bound and chain-like wild animals. Then he burst into flames revealing demonic creature that I immediately knew was the creature known as Nightmare.

["How dare you come here and steal my new host!!"]

"Can you shut up? It's quite annoying that your torturing my brother in law."

["This person is mind!! You can't kill me without him joining me!!! Hahaha you can't do anything to stop me!!"

"How unfortunate that you met me."

The creature stagger when it saw much more terrifying creature than itself. The most powerful ability that I have is my mentally which meant that I project my intent into a horrifying image.

["H-How can I feel fear!? I the one who drought the world in chaos in the name of nyarlathotep!!? What are you!!"]

"I am Issei hyoudou."

It quickly drew a blade from nothing and we both clash with another as replicated True Excalibur slicing though it like another. Nightmare was shocked that it was easily bested by me. It was to be expected when the mindscape is battle of will and dominances With the latter being my forte.

"Give up then I shall spare you in exchange to be my eternal slave!!"

It did dozen of fire and lightning slashes that was tearing through the void causing fragmented images of memory to be projected.

I took a deep breath slowing everything down held my sword up over my head then did a downward slash before it can do anything shattering everything. It began to collapse as I began to feel that I was returning to reality.

["H-How can it be!? A lower form had killed me!?"]

"Oh suck it up fire flakes. Take pride in your death and do not sully with such power. You lose because I was stronger."

I said as everything turn back to reality and saw the creature gradually turning into man while the blade remain. I quickly pick it up and sense it was still alive but incapacitated
