16 Marriage

The news of Riser and Sona's wedding surprised the entire underworld. After the Rating Game and Rias's compromising video, the general expectation was that Riser would hide in shame. However, with the end of the marriage contract, the unexpected turn of events was shocking, as he announced his marriage to his ex-fiancée's best friend overnight. The sudden event stirred up a commotion in the relationships and intrigues of the underworld, leaving many speculating about the motives behind this abrupt decision.

The younger demons reveled in the idea that Riser's marriage to Sona was the perfect revenge against Rias. They felt triumphant, imagining the humiliation Rias was experiencing due to this unexpected outcome. However, the older generation took a more pragmatic perspective, seeing beyond personal rivalries. For them, the union between the wealthiest house in the underworld, represented by Riser, and the house of a Maou's family, represented by Sona, presented immeasurable opportunities for benefits and strengthening alliances on the underworld's political chessboard. Strategy and ambition transcended mere personal revenge, showcasing a broader vision among the generations.

The day unfolded quickly, and the so suddenly yet eagerly awaited wedding ceremony was about to begin.

The wedding ceremony, although typically a tiresome event for Riser, became even more exhausting with a priestess thanking Lucifer every ten words, testing Riser's patience. The endless parade of divine gratitude expressions became a true mental challenge.

However, amidst the difficulties, there were moments of joy, especially seeing his now dazzling wife at the altar. Riser could barely wait to enjoy her company after the formal event.

Before indulging in post-wedding happiness, Riser knew he needed to play his role as the host during the party. With a forced smile, he began greeting the guests who attended his wedding, disguising stress with courtesy and trying to maintain composure amid the unusual challenges of the ceremony.

Sona, with her arms entwined with Riser's, radiated happiness for the success of the wedding, despite Rias's absence. As they approached the Gremory family, represented by Sirzechs, Grayfia, Zeoticus, and Venelana, Riser felt a mix of emotions. The tension in the air was palpable, but even so, he kept a smile, determined to face the possible adversities that awaited in the encounter with his ex-fiancée's family.

Sirzechs, throughout the wedding ceremony, was perplexed by Riser's ability to conceal his true strength. As an extremely powerful demon, Sirzechs had a unique sensitivity to perceive others' magic, and Riser seemed to rival Grayfia's magnitude. This observation intrigued Sirzechs, questioning the true extent of Riser's power.

Of course, Serafall also noticed this, so she made sure to go along with Riser and Sona to greet the Gremorys. In addition to being Sona's sister, she was friends with Sirzechs.

Sirzechs, with a gentle smile, said, "Congratulations, Riser and Sona, on the wedding. I wish you both much happiness."

Sona thanked, "Thank you, Lucifer-sama."

Riser replied, "Thank you." However, the way Riser greeted was noticed by Grayfia, who did not like the lack of formality.

Riser noticed Grayfia's cold gaze and commented, "Surprised, Grayfia, by your presence. Shouldn't you be stopping Rias from jumping on that servant?"

Sirzechs, uncomfortable with Riser's comment about his sister, said, "Rias is not like that."

Sona tried to interrupt the conversation, but Riser continued, "Oh really? Isn't that what I saw in that video?"

Serafall, intervening, said, "I think it's time to end this topic. We're here to celebrate Sona-chan and Riser-chan's wedding."

Sona, dragging Riser away, tried to lighten the situation by greeting other guests. The tension between the Gremory and Phenex families was clearly present, leaving an uncomfortable atmosphere.

Sirzechs said, "You noticed."

Serafall agreed, "Yes, he's quite strong. I don't know the true extent of his power, but it seems that, in terms of magic, he's only slightly below me. He's already definitely a demon class ultimate."

Sirzechs sighed, reflecting on Riser's age, and commented, "Considering his age, he'll go much further. We need to end all this tension between the families."

Serafall nodded and added, "He's my sister's husband and now part of my family too. I'll make sure this matter dies down."

Amidst the laughter and excitement of the party, Sona found a moment to address Riser about the provocation towards Sirzechs during the ceremony.

Sona says, seriously, "Riser, we need to talk about what happened back there. Why provoke Rias's brother? We don't need more conflicts."

Riser, with a feigned and sad expression, responded, "Ah, Sona, you know I was just looking for a bit of fun. But if that bothered you, I'm sorry, regretting marrying me?"

Sona, straightforwardly, says, "No, Riser. It's not about that. Rias is my friend, and I want you both to coexist peacefully."

Riser, abandoning the playfulness, speaks seriously, "Sona, I'm not an idiot. I know Sirzechs is involved in the plan to break my marriage contract with Rias. He never liked me, and today I just made it clear that the antipathy is mutual."

Sona sighs and asks, "So you won't act like that next time? We need to avoid more conflicts."

Riser responds, "I'll treat him as his position demands, but I won't let things slide easily."

Sona, thanking, says, "Thank you, Riser. I want things between the families to calm down. We're here to celebrate, not to create more problems."

Riser agrees, "Understood, Sona. Let's enjoy the party and forget our differences for today."

The rest of the wedding unfolded as usual in the underworld: many fake smiles, protocol greetings, and a fun that, despite being apparent, barely hid the underlying intrigues. With the departure of the guests, the castle became quieter, and finally, Riser and Sona could enjoy a moment of privacy.
