9 True Longinus
Yo, welcome everyone to another Longinus rant this time with the OG Longinus itself, the spear of destiny. Now, this spear tends to get either overhyped or just underestimated so badly, so I'll be throwing in the facts.
To start with:
> "Listen well, everyone; be careful of that man's spear, True Longinus. It's the most powerful Longinus that is said to be able to pierce through God. I have not seen it for a long time, but to think it has now fallen into the hands of the terrorists..."

> Sensei's words made everyone terrified. The man himself was intriguing enough, but we all stared with shock at the spear.
> "That is the Holy Spear that the Seraphs of Heaven fear...?"
> Irina spoke, unable to contain her trembling. Xenovia continued, whispering.
> "I also heard about it ever since I was a child. The spear that pierced Jesus. The spear carrying Jesus' blood. The absolute spear which pierced the body of God!" --Volume 9, Life 3 Part 2.
So, introduction: Known as the original God Slayer Sacred Gear, it is the the origin of why all other sacred gears that can kill or injure gods are called Longinus.
It's identity is the Spear of Longinus, named after the man himself. It is the spear used to pierce Jesus Christ upon his crucifixion to make sure he is truly dead.
It has other titles such as: True Longinus, Original Longinus Holy Spear, Spear of Destiny, etc...
Besides that, we also have:
> Sensei quickly covered her eyes with his hands.
> "Asia, people of faith should not stare at that spear. They will lose their sanity. After all, it is one of the Holy Relics among the True Cross, the Holy Chalice, the Holy Nails and the Shroud of Turin." --Volume 9, Life 3, part 2.
As we can see, it's considered one of the Holy relics with the others listed above. Besides that, it can make believers lose sanity if they gaze too long upon it, no doubt because of God's will contained inside.
Now while it's background is cool and all, we are here to talk about its actual effects and powers, so without further ado, let's dive in:
1-Base Form:

Now, to start with, we have to understand something, what Cao Cao have isn't the normal sacred gear, but a sub species, so this design isn't exactly confirmed to be the original one. If I had to guess, the OG base form should actually look something like this:

A typical Romanian spear, with some slightly fancy designs. But even then, the base form of Cao Cao's spear is pretty much almost identical in function to that of the original, so let's list them all:
> Cao Cao landed on the shore of the Katsura River, his face smiling fearlessly as he raised the Holy Spear. The front portion of True Longinus opened to release a golden aura which shaped itself into the blade of a spear! The instant it opened, it was as if the entire air shook. ...It could only be described as holy and solemn! Just gazing at it made my body feel tense and suffocated! Even for a non-believer, the influence of that spear was that strong!? --Volume 9, Life 3, part 2
In its base form, the spear can channel holy energy to its blade coating in a golden aura so dense it causes nearby atmosphere to shake. It's effect on sanity are still strong even on non believers. Continuing we have:
> At the same time, Cao Cao returned to the centre of the Hero Faction. As their attacks repeated, they circled back to their starting point? I took a glance downstream at where they had come from; the ground had turned into a smoking wasteland! Waaaaaaaah! From a while back, there had been loud crashing noises which made me suspect dramatic occurrences. Arashiyama's scenery has been entirely destroyed! Sensei knew this was an artificial space, so he mercilessly used his biggest spears of light... A few spots on Sensei's armour had shattered... The black wings were also in a messy state. Cao Cao's uniform and Han Chinese attire was also torn in many places... However I find it more amazing that a human did so well against the legendary Fallen Angel Governor!--Volume 9, Life 3, part2.
As we can see, Base Cao Cao was able to keep up with Balance Breaker Azazel as they trashed pretty much everything on their fight. Although this simply can't be ruled out to the spear alone, as Cao Cao is a peerless genius and a hero Descandent. So it's a mix of both. Still impressive for a human.
Do keep in mind however, they didn't go all out yet:

Still, pretty impressive with both of them holding back. And considering that neither he or any human in the hero faction has access to Touki? Even more impressive. Wonder what he will achieve if he had it.
Besides that, we have the "anime" as it can technically count, since season 4 was surprisingly very faithful to the original material.

As can be seen in this scene, the Holy Spear allows its user to have access to Holy and Light energy, which it can unleash bursts of in form of waves or beams depending on the situation. This is more clearly depicted in this:
> Cao Cao stood up and spun around his spear skilfully.
> PIIIIIIIIN!
> The tip of his spear opened, and a really bright light blade formed! .....It had an intense light that gave me chills like always. To us devils, it is the ultimate holy spear.
> FU!
> Cao Cao disappeared! ---Fast! He disappeared without making even the slightest movement!
> STAB!
> When he appeared, Cao Cao's spear was thrust deeply into Ophis's stomach!
> ---! A critical blow! If it was a devil, that stab would have killed it right away! Cao Cao then shouts while putting power into the spear he holds!
> "—Shine, the spear that destroys Gods!"
> KAAAAAAA!
> At the same time he thrust his spear, enormous amounts of light were emitted!
> "This is bad nya. Le Fay."
> When Kuroka said that, both she and Le Fay started to mumble something. Then a mist of darkness was created around us!
> "It is a mist that greatly reduces the amount of light. It's very dense, so please don't breath it in! It's poisonous to our bodies! But we won't be able to reduce the light of the Holy-spear unless we do something like this!"
> "Also it's a double layer done by me and Le Fay nya."
> The moment Le Fay and Kuroka gave us an explanation like that, the torrents of enormous light created from the holy-spear expanded throughout the hotel!--Volume 11, Life 3, part 2.
So, as we can see, he can accumulate the holy aura and unleash it in a bust so strong it evaporated both Kuroka and Le Fay's darkness protections.
Random note: Holy and Light are not the same thing.
Light is one of the 7 natural elements in DxD settings: Fire, wind, earth, Water, Light, Darkness and Lightning. All creatures of Darkness are generally weak to Light, but not Vice Versa A.K.A. Creatures of Light are not weak to Darkness.
Said dark creatures are: Devils, Vampires, Werewolves, Yōkai( Supringly enough) and other stuff.
Holy in the other hand, isn't a natural element, it is a Divine one, originating from Gods and their divinities. What's funny is that Creatures of the Dark also tend to be effected by Holy element, because they are "demonic" in nature, but that doesn't mean its an exclusive thing.
Creatures that are weak to Holy are: Devils, Vampires, Werewolves, Yōkai and Fallen Angels.
What makes Fallen Angels and Pure Angels different is access to Holy energy, this is why a Pure Angel would absolutely trash a Fallen of the same number of wings.
Before any Fallen Angel fans jump in and start saying bullshit, here is the statement:
> When I looked at my stomach, there was smoke emitting from it! Is this the damage caused by the holy-sword!? When on earth!? Did I get cut from the attack just now!? It just grazed me and I turn out like this...
> "It's the damage caused by the holy-sword. Devils and fallen-angels get their power and existence erased by receiving damage from the holy-sword to their body. If it were a bit deeper, then it would have been critical."
> It was just a graze! Does it take that much power from me that I get down on my knees!? --Volume 3, Life 2, part 6.
So yeah, being a fallen angel sucks ass.
Back to the point, let's continue with Cao Cao:
> Cao Cao takes out his spear slowly, Ophis' stomach had a hole but there were no traces of blood. The hole disappeared as if nothing happened.
> …..So she didn't take any damage? Even with the light of that holy-spear…..? Cao Cao then said it with an astonished face.
> "An instant kill attack if it was a devil. I even put a lot of power in it so even other beings would vaporise... It would have taken half of the power of one of the Gods who are weak against this spear." --Volume 11, Life 3, part 2.
So, as we can see, it left a hole in Ophis that regenerated instants later. Keep in mind, this is the full power Ophis, while crippled Ophis after Samael's poison shrugged off Enchanted Niðhöggr's attacks as they didn't even scratch her, so this goes to show how strong this attack is.
Besides that, we also have a confirmation that the Spear has a God-slayer attribute A.K.A. it's effective against Gods, just like the usual Dragon-Slayer Attribute against Dragons.
Besides that, it also have other anti-species attributes, from the Holy Light it has:
> Just as I was getting annoyed, there was something at my abdomen. Lowering my gaze—I found Cao Cao's spear firmly embedded there.
> "Gurgle..."
> Large amounts of fresh blood were rushing up from my abdomen and spewing out of my mouth. ...I-I lost!
> "You're not weak, but your style of rushing in directly has too many openings."
> Sizzle.
> Cao Cao slowly withdrew his spear from my abdomen. In that instant, my abdomen, no, my entire body, was engulfed by the intense pain. With the wound as the centre, my entire body began emitting smoke. ...I-It really hurts...? W-What was this...? A feeling identical to Holy Swords... The smoking wound was also the same...! O-Of course, it's the Holy Spear... So the pain and effects are... Damn it, my consciousness is growing faint... --Volume 9, Life 4.
As you can see, the Holy Spear is pretty much a K.O. type of weapon against anything weak to Holy or Light. See this? This was Issei dying, that losing consciousness was in fact him on the death door. Here:
> However, the wound was still open. And it was smoking a bit. No way, it looks as if it is about to expand again! Was it because the healing provided from a distance was not strong enough? Asia's distance healing was very effective, but still inferior compared to her direct touch... Still, long-range healing was already very powerful, but the Holy Spear's damage seems to have exceeded it. I took out the Phoenix Tears from my shirt pocket and scattered them over the wound on my abdomen... The wound finally closed. Wow, as expected of the Phoenix Tears.
> "Did you know you almost died just now? Pierced by the Holy Spear, you were almost erased. Death is surprisingly simple, no?"
> Cao Cao laughed lightly. ...You said I almost died just now? Really. Yes, it was a critical wound right in the belly, but I've had similar in the past and I could still move. I was even thinking of sending a punch to your face as a counter. —Wait, almost erased? Was he referring to Devils disappearing without a trace from holy attacks? ...I was in that state just now? ...Smoking all over my body, my existence was about to disappear? Realizing that, I had reason to shudder. --Volume 9, Life 4.
So we get 2 things from this:
--The spears damage is so strong that not even Asia's healing, even if it was remotely, could totally heal, and it requires a Phoenix Tear for just a simple stab.
--Holy Light erases Devils and such creatures from existence. They get evaporated if they die by it. Nothing left or shit. No resurrection for this poor fools.
To understand more its suppression on Devils and creatures weak to Holy, we have this:
> Holy Swords were still something that a Devil couldn't take easily even if their raw power was that of a High-class Devil. --Volume Shin 3, Life Heroes.
> Her Sacred Gear, the Longinus [Incinerate Anthem], was one of the holy relics, the Holy Cross. Due to it being a relic, it was something far more dangerous and deadlier than a Holy Sword to the Devils. If one did not have sufficient power to dodge or guard against that, he/she would just be turned into ash. --Volume Shin 3, Life Heroes.
> Cao Cao's Holy Spear was said to be the strongest amongst the thirteen — no, eighteen Longinus currently. It was also said to be the first Longinus in addition to being the top of the top amongst relics, a Sacred Gear that was said to be able to pierce not just Devils and monsters, but also Gods. Devils who weren't that powerful would be annihilated just by being pierced by it. --Volume Shin 3, Life Heroes.
So yeah, you don't need to be a genius to connect the dots that the Base True Longinus can one shot even Ultimate-Class Devils to kingdom come. Another effect the spear has is:
> He takes Cao Cao's hand and activates the transportation magic-circle. He then looks at us. I won't let you escape! Everyone except Vali goes towards them. But the holy-spear releases a bright light, and we couldn't move our body and use our eyes for a moment! So he still had this much power in him! --Volume 12, Life1.
The light can also stun Devils apparently, or maybe its just the recoil from sudden exposure. Just treat Holy energy as radiation for Devils, Vampires and those kind.
Still, even it has a limit in its base form. As anything above Maou-class devil won't be turned to dust from a single scratch in the base form.
Case in point:

Also fun fact:
--The spear can apparently extend and shrink as the weilders like, so it may have limited shape shifting abilities.
--The other fact I wanted to mention is one i forgot to add in a previous rant, but will be editing it there soon: All Holy relics are super effective in breaking through any kind of "Seal": Defensive Barriers, Sealing Barriers, etc... Here:
>"Hell yeah! We are currently trying to unseal each of the seals desperately! Though it would have been easier if we had the Holy Spear to break the seal-spell into pieces. Well, the progress for it is going smoothly due to the cooperation from the Holy Grail and the Holy Cross."

>Who was it!? Who did that!? We are the only ones inside! Someone most likely attacked and destroyed the barrier from the outside! Just who on earth broke the barrier—.
>A single flash descends in front of us like a shooting star. That flash impales the school yard.

>...Seriously!? Why did that spear come down!? That thing's possessor is already...!

Keep in mind this is a Barrier so strong that Rias, Sona, Issei and Sairorg's peerages combined couldn't break it. This is a combination between a Barrier casted by Ladon, who's Barriers are stronger than those of Azi Dahāka, Boosted by the Replica Boosted Gear and Walburga' Holy Flame barrier.
Anyways, continuing on, we have the Balance Breaker.
2-Balance Breaker Form:

Sorry for the dogshit art, but we have nothing official for the moment, so that's that. Also, no offence for the original artist of this one.
Anyways, the balance breaker of the True Longinus, let's allow the novel to speak for itself:
> "Balance Breaker!"
> He activated his Balance Breaker. A halo-like thing started to appear behind his back along with seven orbs the size of a bowling ball. Cao Cao stepped on top of the orb with the levitation ability — [Hatthiratana] and dodged Sonneillon's attack to the sky. The Halo that shone divinely and the seven orbs — [Seven Treasures] were the sub-species Balance Breaker of the Longinus [True Longinus], [Polar Night Longinus Chakravartin]. Each of the [Seven Treasures] orbs floating around him had its own ability, endowing the user with seven new abilities due to the Balance Breaker. Although the sub-species differed from the [True Longinus]'s original Balance Breaker, since it granted the user seven new abilities, there were times when people in his circle and rivals would say that [It's unfair for you to have seven more abilities!]. --Volume Shin 3, Life Heroes.
So, as stated above, Cao Cao's balance breaker Manifests as a Halo behind him and 7 orbs, each with different abilities. All the orbs look identical so you can't tell which is which. But I'm not in the mood to start listing their abilities, so just Google it up if you're curious.
Fun fact though: While we don't know what it does, we do know the name of the original Balance Breaker of the True Longinus. Here:

So, from this we can infere the name of the BxB: Balance Breaker: True Longinus of Pure White Night.
Side Note: After some research, I found the name of the Original True Longinus Balance-Breaker:
> "This is my [True Longinus]'s Balance-Breaker, [Polar Night Longinus Chakravartine]. ---Though it's still incomplete."
> Seeing Cao Cao, Sensei shouts.
> "---! A sub-species! The Balance-Breaker that the previous [True-Longinus] used until now was [True-Longinus Götterdämmerung]! From the name of it, are you implying that you are the ideal ruler!? Damn it! Even I don't know what those 7 orbs are!" --Volume 11, Life 3, part2.
Back on topic though, what I would like to talk about is the fact that the Balance Breaker enchanted the Holy Light abilities of the Spear, allowing for something like this to happen:
> Sonneillon screamed due to the unbearably excruciating pain. The sound of agony could be heard in response to the absolute damage inflicted by the Holy Spear. To Devils, the damage from the Holy Spear must be on a whole different level. As the damage from the Holy Spear went through his right shoulder, Sonneillon's right arm fell onto the ground. Still, Sonneillon couldn't bear its pain and was on his knees, lying with his face downward. His consciousness seemed to be hazy because of the pain, rendering him unable to do any attacks.
> "Hmph, even though I already activated my [Seven Treasures], it seems like we're about to get to the end with just a few moves. I don't have to use the complete [Parinayakaratana]'s abilities."
> Even for Sonneillon with his Maou-class aura, he was in his current position because of the damage from the Holy Spear. --Volume Shin 3, Life Heroes.
See that, thats a Maou Class Devil who got stomped on by Balance Breaker Cao Cao in just 1 hit, rendering him powerless, and a second hit to finish him off.
Yeah, this fucking spear is no joke, I understand why Devil kind would be so terrified of it.
You have to understand that before Sirzechs and Ajuka, no devil can stand against this Spear in Balance Breaker Form for more than 3 hits. It's the stuff of nightmares for them.
And guess what? It gets even more broken.
3-Abyss Side Balance Breaker:
For those unfamiliar with this term, let's get a quick definition out of the way before advancing, I'll talk about this more thoroughly in another rant:
> This form was acquired through the polishing of his Balance Breaker, [Night Celestial Slash Dogs], which resulted in the achievement of the Abyss Side. —In other words, Balance Breaker Abyss Side — [Perfectus Tenebrae Lykaon et Fortis Densus Laelaps].
> Azazel-sensei, had suggested some possibilities regarding the Balance Breaker of a Sacred Gear.
> There was [Crest Side], which was your usual Balance Breaker, including the sub-species ones, with the abilities to either strengthen or evolve. Then, there was [Abyss Side], a phenomenon where the Sacred Gear and its user became one, which happened after the user polished themselves and the Sacred Gear to its limit, and if the user kept wishing for it. The last one was [Ex Side], a new variation that couldn't be categorised into either of those two. --Volume Shin 3, Life Slash Dogs.
To take what we want, Abyss Side Balance Breaker is when the user extracts the full potential of their Balance Breaker Form, polishing their Sacred Gears and reaching the very heights with it. Its litteraly perfecting your sacred gear and extracting as much power as possible while being in control.
True Queen Issei is basically like that. Slash Dog Tobio too has reached the Abyss Side.
Now, let me introduce you to this:
> While everyone was watching, Cao Cao stabbed with his spear while spinning as if he was dancing, and suddenly, a halo appeared behind him. ...He activated his Balance Breaker while moving so fluidly like water! Instead of taking a flashy stance, Cao Cao activated his Balance Breaker while attacking his opponent. That skillful execution was so amazing everyone was mesmerised.
> As soon as he activated his Balance Breaker, the aura and pressure coming off from Cao Cao rose significantly, and the speed of his spear and holy aura also increased abnormally with it. At that moment, the holy aura reached an area that Sairaorg-san had not predicted. Sairaorg-san couldn't dodge the attack beforehand and his Lion armor ended up taking significant amounts of damage. There was smoke coming off from his body underneath the armor. There was no change in Sairaorg-san's expression, but he had to be feeling by extreme pain. For a Devil, holy aura caused critical damage, and in the presence of the aura, his stamina would be greatly cut. Cao Cao, after equipping his Balance Breaker, didn't equip his orbs, but...
> [I'm not going to take out my Seven Treasures this time since I'm thinking of concentrating all that energy into the spear instead. I've come to the conclusion that for types like you and Hyoudou Issei, instead of using special moves, beating you with simple techniques seems to be the best solution.]
> The aura from the spear had...risen up by orders of magnitude, to the point where we could also feel it over the monitor. That aura must be penetrating the armor and burning Sairaorg-san right now. So, he was able to create such terrifying aura just by concentrating all the holy aura into his spear instead of calling those orbs. A Devil would surely retire if they got hit by such aura directly, but other species wouldn't survive without any harm as well. --Volume DX4, Technic MAX vs Power MAX.
Introducing Abyss Side Balance Breaker of Cao Cao, sacrificing his fancy 7 abilities that i honestly think are a waste as True Longinus BxB, he concentrated all the power into the Spear to raise its base abilities several magnitudes above it's normal state.
Now, you don't need to be a genius to know what this means.
As it is, this spear can actually kill any devil in one hit if it lands a clean stab to the abdomen, stomach, chest or head. Sirzechs and Ajuka included, but good luck stabbing those mother fuckers in the first place.
But anyways, as it is right now we can see several of the spears effects:
--It is several times stronger than its Balance Breaker Form, in raw output and how effective it is.
--It's aura alone is so strong it can be felt through the monitors by viewers. Keep in mind, this battle is happening between Sairorg and Cao Cao in an artificial dimension.
--Holy Aura exposure causes Devils and the like that are weak to Holy to have their Stamina cut greatly. Making their advantage in Stamina as non humans effectively useless and guaranting that the match wouldn't drag on as Humans aren't built for very long fights, maybe 3 days long fight is OK, but above that it becomes tedious.
Now of course this isn't the end, the True Longinus still have one trick up its sleeve. One ability to rule them all, the reason it will always always stay supreme among all Longinus.
4-Truth Idea:

> "...It's not that a creature is sealed in that spear. What's sealed inside it is like a will of "the God from the Bible"."

The Heavens don't have a conclusion either. Either way other powerful Sacred Gears were found after that spear, and things like Longinus were defined." --Volume 11, Life 3.
As we can see, the True Longinus is revealed to house the "Will of god" in it. This is likely the reason why Believers lose their sanity looking at it and the reason for its overwhelming Holy Light abilities.
Now this is pretty straight forward, God's will is basically housed in the sacred gear, you could think of it as an AI that follows God's logic, since I is based on him.
For the chant to activate, we have:
> "Spear. The true holy-spear which pierces through God. –Suck the ambition of a king of domination sleeping within me, and pierce through the gap of blessing and destruction. –You. Announce the will, and turn into a glow."
> Along with Cao Cao's chant, the tip of the spear opens, and magnificent amounts of light start glowing out from it. ...…Maybe it will be bad to let him release this much amount of light anymore than this? I mean what will happen? From Sensei's talk, what's sealed inside that spear is something like the will of God who has passed away. --Volume 12, Life 1.
Now, to be frank, this basically did nothing when it was first used. As Cao Cao was a massive racist dick head with a retarded "ambition" and an even more retarded approach.
And since his "ambition" sucked so much, well, the spear did jack shit since God clearly knows who is the dumbass in this situation.
It's second activation didn't disappoint however:
> I see, that's what the situation was like! It was certain that Apophis, who stood on top of Trihexa's head would hinder the barrier's activation! But, she needed to get closer to Trihexa first for it to work. I flew to Rossweisse-san's side, and at that time, Cao Cao also came over.
> "I'll clear the way. Count it as one of my special services."
> After saying that, he rotated the Holy Spear, and recited the chant of power!
> "O Spear, the true Holy Spear which pierces through God! Absorb the ambition of the King of Domination sleeping within me, and pierce through the gap of blessing and destruction! Thou, announce the will, and turn into light!"
> The ring of light behind Cao Cao shone even brighter, and the aura which enveloped the Holy Spear also increased until its limit. For us Devils, just seeing this light and having that light shine upon us was enough to cause our skin to sting in pain as if it was being burnt. As we can see, the corresponding effect was able to force all Evil Dragons to be pushed back. Even the enchanted Apophis, who have the grail at this time and was confirmedto be a Heavenly Class Dragon, had to retreat quickly or else he was at risk of getting knocked out and being at the mercy of his enemies.
Now, let's give a clear cut definition of what it actually does:

People often tend to downplay its power, but they forget that while the Boosted Gear is impressive, most of Issei's later power aren't actually directly from it.
They were either from the Evil Pieces, Book Goddess, Ophis and Great Red, Divine Milk, etc...
Same for Vali technically, as his Lineage of Lucifer is what helped him achieve his power.
Remember, all sacred gears were meant for humans, so in this regard, the True Longinus ranks number one even to this day among all sacred gears.
