1 Tainted

(A/N: Most of this chap is an info dump ,_,)

Usually when one is born of devil and human blood they are hugely looked down upon in the underworld. This could be proven by the existence of an anomaly, an irregularity in reality itself. Kaya, a human/devil hybrid with pitch black hair and red eye's. Her red eyes held within them a pure, untainted white 4-leaf clover, one would even assume she was blessed by luck.

She was also abnormally observant for someone who is just barely 3 years old, and that brought an even larger amount of scrutiny down upon the young hybrid's small, weak shoulders.

Born in the nearly extinct house of Flauros that naturally inherit the Power of Sight. A very 'lame' ability and generally underrated in comparison to the other overwhelmingly strong abilities of the other pillars. What REALLY made house Flauros special however.. was the adaptability of their inherent power.

If you could 'see' reality you were one step closer to controlling it. Even though barely ANY Flauros house members have even cracked Space Laws by using their power to study it, it took decades of studies for even one member to break through that threshold.

Even then, once they eventually cracked the code and boasted about it to all of the other pillars to gain back their lost pride from being called 'useless' for centuries some of the other families grew jealous. If one had a tremendous lifespan like most devil's do AND the ability to gain insight into the laws of reality itself after decades of research they would become a 'threat' to the 'delicate power balance' of the other families.

So multiple families colluded with one another to cripple or eradicate the Flauros family. Which leads us to a couple of months before Kaya was born, in total 23 families ended up joining the assault to eliminate the Flauros. All of the other pillars did not deign to help them, in fact they blatantly ignored their downfall.

'Devil's were selfish creatures,' that is what Kaya has learned from the moment she was born. The only living survivors of the family were Kaya and her mother as she was in labor in the human realm.

Hell, the only reason Kaya wasn't killed the moment she was born was because she was a hybrid, no 'noble' pure-blooded devil would even deign to dirty their hands with her blood. Although the truth stung, Kaya was very thankful for her hybrid status.

While it caused toe largest amount of suffering in her short life it also enabled her to live longer, even if only by a few years.

...

Kaya was sitting peacefully in a gloomy garden in the otherwise empty mansion. The only sound that could be heard was her mother's continuous moans originating from her bedroom.

Her mother was not a good person, she was the epitome of a pure-blood devil. Selfish to a fault and chock-full of pride and prejudice with a power-hungry nature. As soon as she realized she accidently slept with a human while drunk she was furious and eliminated his whole family.

The only reason she didn't get rid of Kaya when she was still in the earlier portion of pregnancy was because her husband thought it was 'his' and she silently hoped that the 'filthy' human wasn't responsible for her pregnancy.

Much to her despair, her husband and family was killed while she was busy in a safehouse in the human realm to safely deliver her child. Imagine her surprise when the child she had wasn't her beloved husbands, but the human she accidently slept with.

What disgusted her even more was the slight feeling of motherly love she had for the abomination. She instantly tossed the newborn child into the direction of one of the maids and ordered her to raise the child.

She instantly teleported back to the Flauros Mansion to talk to her husband before the strong scent of iron blasted her nostrils in heavy doses. As soon as she saw the first mangled corpse her mind snapped and after the mansion was cleaned she ignored any logical evidence to how her family was killed and drowned herself in alcohol completely forgetting her child temporarily.

Kaya was raised by the maids for 9 months before her mother visited her. She was widely known among the maids as a genius, she spoke simple words and walked way before even some of the higher ranked pure-blood devils.

"Mama!" Kaya yelled while looking at her mother with curious eyes. As soon as those words came out of her mouth her world shattered. Her mother looked horrendously disgusted upon making contact with Kaya's beautiful eyes and proceeded to kick her down onto the ground.

"IT'S ALL YOUR DAMN FAULT!" She snarled while ignoring that her innocent daughter had nothing to do with anything. After relentlessly throwing her 9 month old daughter around she left in a huff while downing another bottle of wine.

Kaya had tears streaming down her face with blank eyes, not believing what happened. The three maids that took care of her looked at her with pity before ignoring her to not draw the mistress's wrath.

With a blank, still look still ingrained onto her face she lifelessly stumbled into her bedroom and face-planted into the bed.

...

(Current Time: Kaya is 3 years old)

Kaya was seen focusing on an empty spot below her drawing the curious glances of her caretakers. Staring at the plant laws surrounding the garden caused the observant Kaya to get interested. Looking deeper into the Plant laws were the laws of Earth and Water.

Kaya's brain was racing while looking at the complexity of the laws so she decided to completely focus on Earth. Her eyes were darting back and forth while looking at how it works and how to control it while ingraining it into her memory. While she hasn't realized it yet, she has a VERY rare condition that a small portion of humans have called Hyperthymesia. She can remember every event in her life in great detail, even more so than photographic memory.

After spending what felt like years comprehending the law she finally got a decent grasp of its concept. 'Earth is what sustains life. It protects life while also having the capability to cause massive amounts of damage to the living.' Kaya thought before feeling a surge of power flow through her low-class demonic energy and integrate with it.

Holding out her hand with her palm facing upwards she drew upon her demonic energy while thinking about Earth. A small dagger made purely out of stone materialized into her smooth hangs, once completely conjured Kaya spat out a mouthful of blood onto the ground in front of her.

She let out a hoarse cough before scanning her body with demonic energy to see the problem on tor realize she almost completely used all of her measly reserves in that one spell. "Young Mistress!" One of the kinder maids yelled in alarm while rushing over to Kaya's side to check her condition. The maid in question was Rose whom has been the most careful and kindest to Kaya. She had black hair with black eyes and had soft but average features.

Kaya held up a hand and pushed the worrying maid gently off of her, "I'm fine Rose.. just a miscalculation," Kaya said to the frantic maid. "What do you mean 'miscalculation!' I know the signs of demonic energy exhaustion when I see it and you young lady are suffering from it!" She said in a hurry while scooping up the small body of Kaya from her bench and carrying her inside.

Kaya pouted slightly while she was scooped up and placed onto her bed, "Don't pout at me missy! You are just BARELY 3 years old.. what were you thinking using your demonic energy?!" She reprimanded Kaya. Kaya hung her head down in slight shame while hearing the tone of Rose's voice.

"*Sigh* You're lucky you have such an awesome made here to help you.. I can teach you BASIC demonic energy control techniques so you don't do that again kay? Some of the clan heirs usually learn the same technique around your age as well." She muttered the last part before pulling up a chair to the bedside and sitting down.

Kaya's eyes brightened a bit before smiling happily and nodding. Rose smiled a bit before pulling out a small piece of paper and folding it into a paper airplane. After finishing her folding she held it in her hand, "Now all you got to do for this exercise is to keep the plane floating above your hand, if it falls or leaves the area of your hand you failed and have to start again. Now you try it while I observe," She said as she handed the paper airplane over to Kaya.

"Thank you Rose," Kaya said while taking the airplane and injecting it with her demonic energy. The airplane crinkled slightly while not budging upwards at all. She pouted while looking at Rose for an explanation while Rose gave out a quiet giggle, "Mistress, you have to imagine the demonic energy lifting the airplane off the ground or else won't move," She explained carefully.

A small look of shame was plastered on Kaya's face, even though she was shunned by her mother she was still given a basic education by her maids in the library. Even then due to her perfect memory she spent a few months exploring the family library and learning about different subjects.

Grumbling to herself she injected demonic energy into the paper airplane again while imagining it floating above her hand perfectly. The plane slowly glided off the top of her palm while shakily moving a couple centimeters off the surface.

Suddenly a large clap broke Kaya's concentration and the airplane dropped, looking at the orgin of the sound Kaya saw Rose clapping slightly with a proud look. "Very good mistress! Keep on practicing with the plane while I go clean up alright?" She said while picking up some of the cleaning tools she carried here.

Kaya nodded before continuing to attempt to make the plane float.

...

Kaya's mother, Ramel, was having a good day today. She invited over one of the members of the house of Naberius in order to 'persuade' him into doing something about her daughter.

Many people after the relevation of the house of Flauros being able to manipulate space with their inherited power were envious of such an ability. After the downfall of their house they had hoped to recruit the only adult woman left into one of their houses only to learn that she herself is infertile after an 'incident' that had occurred after Kaya's birth.

Due to this many families attempted to sign up marriage contracts with Kaya even though she was only a hybrid, but due to her inherited ability she was above the normal hybrids. The maids however did not like those marriage contracts on bit, and promptly burned all of them before they could reach the mistress's ears.

Many families stopped after a small time but one persisted, the Naberius family. "In three years we'll sign the marriage contract between Kaya and Maredon," Kaya's mother said to the Naberius family member while ignoring how Kaya would feel about being married off.

"Alright... make sure the hybrid is at least educated before you do so. If she disappoints we will make life more difficult on you. Even though we doubt a hybrid would awaken your family power it will give a chance to our bloodline to inherit it," The Naberius devil said while straightening his ruffled clothes.

Rose who was currently standing outside of the room was worried about her young mistress. She knew that the young mistress would vehemently deny ever marrying another devil, so Rose was thinking up some plans to evade the contract. 'You have three years Rose... we can't disappoint the young mistress now,' She thought while continuing to clean.

...

Like this three years passed slowly for Kaya, whom spent most of the time being educated in demonic energy by Rose and reading books about the Flauros family history. She understood now why she could make the earthen dagger before, she inherited the family power! She was ecstatic whenever she learned of this but was told by Rose directly to never tell anyone about it.

Rose has become somewhat of a.. mother figure for the girl. While her mother was 'persuading' the Naberius devil and drowning herself in alcohol, Rose was teaching and guiding her. Her demonic energy control soared under the tutelage of Rose and now she could even summon 5-6 daggers before exhaustion, even with her low-class demonic energy which was barely bordering mid-class.

While she was thinking of all the progress she made during these years her 'mother' burst through the library door with an unknown man she has been seeing leaving her 'mothers' room. Rose was standing next to Kaye with a mortified expression, clearly knowing where this was going.

Kaya heard her 'mother' whisper to the man, "We just need a drop of her blood and the marriage contract is complete!" The mother said while clearly excited. As soon as those words were said Kaya's world shattered as her hands grew stiff.

The Naberius devil said nothing and walked straight over to Kaya and lifted her hand while holding a needle over a piece of paper. She had read about marriage contracts before between devils, one needed both parents blood to sign one and since her human father was dead they needed HER blood.

Her hand was shaking horribly as the needle drew closer and on instinct she summoned an earthen dagger and stabbed directly into the devil's chest, mortifying her mother in the process. Her mother released a terrible scream while the devil staggered back in shock before he grew furious.

Rose quickly grabbed Kaya and ran towards one of the storage rooms where an intricately designed portal to the human realm she had been setting up for the past 3 years. She plopped the still stiff Kaya into the circle and began to inject it with her magic while saying different words that Kaya recognized from some of the books she had read.

As the portal started to glow and Kaya and Rose started to evaporate, a large trail of demonic energy flew and stabbed directly into Rose's heart, making sure of her demise. Kaya stared at Rose with disbelief, 'Rose couldn't die right? She is so strong!' She thought to herself while denying the possibility for her own mental health.

As her body was falling to the ground she whispered, "Don't die Kaya... it sucks," while she injected all of her bodies remaining demonic energy into the portal, hastening the process. "NO!" Kaya yelled as she saw what Rose was doing as she scrambled to pick her up and take her with only for her to disappear in light particles as she saw Rose draw her last breath.

...

Kaya landed in front of an orphanage in dirty clothes that smelled faintly of blood with a look of horror and loss on her face.

"Why? Why does it have to be me?" Kaya muttered to herself while thinking of all the moments she and Rose spent together. "Why did you have to die for me?" She said with tears running down her face.
