8 Chapter 08 - Fated Date and 1st Try

6 months passed....
It's been about half a year since I woke up from my coma. Tomorrow is January 16th. That date is a date of joy and sorrow for me. That date is my birthday and on that date I lost my mother too.
"It's been a year, huh...."
I muttered while looking up at the clear night sky full of stars. I'm currently on the roof of Governor Azazel's private laboratory building.
Right. During this half year, I have remained in Governor Azazel's private laboratory. Apart from monitoring my condition, it's also because I asked for help to further develop my Sacred Gear's Balance-Breaker. Fortunately, Governor Azazel did not hesitate to help me and was very happy because Governor Azazel himself admitted that he really likes to research about Sacred Gears.
"Maybe it's time...."
After some contemplation, I then went back inside and looked for Governor Azazel in his lab.
Arriving at the lab, I called Governor Azazel who seemed to be working on something on his desk.

"Try it? Try what?"
"I want to try the summoning using the Balance Breaker that we've been theorizing so far!"
Hearing my determined statement, Governor Azazel fell silent and stopped what he was doing. Then he looked at me with a serious face.
".... Are you sure? We still don't know for sure if it can be done. Besides, I have also said there might be risks and side effects which we still don't know if the [Snake] enhanced Balance Breaker is carried out. Because it's possible it would risk shortening your lifespan, you know? Are you really sure you want to do that?"
Hearing Governor Azazel's serious question, I nodded firmly and answered him.
".... Yes!"

Governor Azazel crossed his arms and looked lost in thought.
After a while, Governor Azazel nodded.
".... Alright. Tomorrow then. I have to do security preparations just in case something goes wrong. I have to call Mephisto too."
After Governor Azazel said that, I nodded.

The next day....
Governor Azazel and I who were in the lab suddenly saw a magic circle appear on the floor.
"Oh, he's here...."
We weren't that surprised by the magic circle's appearance. Because from the magic circle pattern we already know who will come, which is Mephisto-sama.
Not long after, Mephisto-sama appeared. However, he did not appear to be alone as usual. Because Governor Azazel and I saw a small purple dragon hovering near Mephisto-sama's shoulder!
Dragon! Honestly I was quite surprised to see that little purple dragon! Even though I had heard Mother tell me that mythical creatures like them did exist, this was my first time seeing them in person!
"I took him just in case."
Mephisto-sama said realizing our gazes.
"Long time no see, Azazel...."
The little dragon said while looking at Governor Azazel. Even though he was small, his voice was heavy and dignified.
Governor Azazel gave a small nod then greeted the little dragon back.
"Yeah.... I didn't think Mephisto would bring you here."
It looks like Governor Azazel and the little purple dragon have known each other for a long time.
Then, Governor Azazel tapped me on the shoulder and told me who the little purple dragon was.
"Rey, he is Tannin. He is former Dragon King.... Even though he looks small, he's actually big because he can change his size."
Hearing Governor Azazel's statement, I was shocked once again!
Dragon King!? This purple dragon is the former Dragon King!?
Mother once told me that in the past there were 6 Dragon Kings and they were all very strong! I didn't expect to meet one of them today!
"He-hello. My name is Rey. Nice to meet you...!"
I nervously introduced myself to the dragon and the dragon then nodded slightly.
"Hm. I've heard about you from Mephisto Pheles.... I'm Tannin. Nice to meet you too."
After we finished introducing ourselves, Governor Azazel spoke.
"All right. We'll go downstairs. I've already prepared and secured testing ground in there for this trial."
We nodded slightly then headed to the testing ground in the basement.

Arriving at the testing ground, Mephisto-sama asked Governor Azazel.
"You sealed this place with a barrier?"
Hearing that question, Governor Azazel sighed.
"Hah~.... Can't be helped. I have to be careful so as not to attract the attention.... Besides, we don't know what or who will be summoned later if this experiment is really successful."
"That's true...."
Then, Mephisto-sama asked me.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
I nodded firmly.
"Yes!"
"Alright.... Good luck!"
After that, I walked towards the center of the room. I then took a deep breath and let it out.
First of all, I summoned my Sacred Gear, [Serene Summoning], and the golden staff with a crystal on the tip appeared in the grip of my right hand. Next, I summoned the [Infinity Star Flame] and before long a purple-black ouroboros appeared and then floated around in the palm of my left hand.
After the two of them appeared, I brought the fire ouroboros in my left hand closer to the golden staff of my Sacred Gear. The fire ouroboros then moved around the golden staff and circulated to form a symbol of infinity.
After that, I closed my eyes and in my heart I hoped to summon a figure who could protect me and guide me to become stronger! With that unwavering hope, I then opened my eyes and began to chant:

After the chant finished, I tapped the golden staff of my Sacred Gear onto the floor and shouted!
"Infinite Parallel Overwrite Summoning!"
Then, with myself at the center, a geometric purple-black circle of flames appeared that continued to expand to a radius of about ten meters! Then, the geometric purple-black circle of flames burned even more and rose up to five meters till it was getting dark and dim around me!
"Guh!"
I feel like I'm losing my strength for doing this Balance Breaker!
Even so, I bit my lip and continued to hold on! I also closed my eyes. And in my heart, I continue to hope with full of faith and determination to successfully make this summoning!

I saw a red spear pointed right in front of my face!
I was taken aback and very aghast because of that!
And after I looked up following the hilt of the spear, I saw the sharp and cold gaze of a woman who looked beautiful, had red eyes, long straight purple-reddish hair, and she was wearing some sort of tight black battle suit.
".... Who are you?"
The woman asked me coldly.
"I... am... Rey...."
With what remained of my strength, I answered as best I could.
".... What do you want?"
The woman asked again.
"I... wa...nt... to... str...ong...."
I answered with disjointedly.
After that, I felt myself collapse and my vision darkened.
