2 System

I went through 3 months of in-patient therapy before I was discharged, then a few weeks of out-patient therapy. The first few days I struggled to get up from the wheelchair, I got my feet on the floor, but I had not walked in fourteen weeks, so my legs did not have the strength to hold me up. I collapsed in a struggling heap. I could move, but I did not have the strength to get up.

That was when I started to realize that it was going to take some time for me to even stand straight. But gradually I saw signs of improvement in my health, I regained some weight, could walk around with the help of a cane, and don't look like a walking skeleton anymore since now I was allowed to eat something decent instead of liquid through a feeding tube.

Enough about that though.

Every day after work my parents would come to visit; on weekends, they would spend hours at a time recalling every little thing that had happened in my childhood days.

It was both embarrassing and amusing, I knew Issei was a massive pervert but hearing it from your parent's mouth is totally another thing.

Er… It's embarrassing! Whenever they mentioned a particular event the memories would resurface making me cringe.

On the bright side, I became somewhat accustomed to my new parents. It doesn't feel as awkward as before, calling them mom & dad seem to be the most appropriate thing now. I knew the feeling of losing someone, ridden with pain that no one understands unless they have it. Heart cries out for that special person, wishing they were here to comfort you. I knew the feeling all too well.

And what am I going to say? That I possessed your son? That is a ticket straight to a mental asylum, all I can do is play the part of their son, and take good care of them. At least I owe Issei that much.

'He's coming home?' My mother gulped, excited and nervous on hearing that I will be discharged today.

'Yes.' While my parents were talking with the doctor, I pondered over my next course of action. The current year is 2009, Alex died in the year 2022, that's a large gap, I did try to make some sense of this situation but I could not wrap my head around it. I time-traveled back to 13 years in the past, I couldn't help but raise a brow at, how is this even possible?

The strangest thing that I couldn't seem to get used to was the lack of any famous people, there was no Messi, or Ronaldo, no Michael Jackson, no Muhammad Ali. Heck, I couldn't even find a shit when I search for people like Keanu, or Tom Cruise.

I suspect this is not my original universe, an alternate reality like those in the Loki series. Who would have thought a truck could yeet a soul to kingdom come.

[The Skills <Observation>,<Inventory> and integrated skill <System> & <Gacha> are successfully granted]

Suddenly a bright light flashed in front of me, blinding me momentarily, my vision first blurred before it took a few moments to recover to witnessed the sight of a crimson tinted window screen.

"What… Skills, Gacha?" I mumbled and turned my head at my parents, from time to time one of them would look in my direction but they don't seem to notice the red panel, is it just only me? Am I the only person In the room who can see this thing?

"Status Window, like game—"

[DING]

With a sound effect, a holographic window popped up before my eyes.

Name: Hyodou Issei

{Photo Here}

Level: 1

Class: None Title: None

MP: 10

Tiredness: 0

[Stat]

Strength: 10

Stamina: 10

Agility: 10

Intelligence: 10

Perception: 10

(Available points to distribute: 5)

[Skills]

Skills: Observation Lv max, Inventory[40 slots], Gacha.

On clicking the status window it displayed personal information, including the ability to add points to my attributes. That said, five unused points were yet to be distributed, observation skill gives access to other people's stats, inventory… it's obvious, I had played enough hack and slash games to distinguish the purpose of an inventory.

The last one was… Gacha, in my old world players, hated these abominations. Gacha is like gamble, the first time it would intentionally let you taste favorable results which give a short boost of thrill, and just to experience that again we humans would spend money like water.

Gacha games are intriguing to play, especially for the people that love the thrill of gambling. There's something so satisfying when a player pulls a legendary grade item.

But the terrifying parts of playing gacha games are the bad pulls or more especially the ones who work for it. It takes a while for players to gather gem/crystal so that they can pull and if after they painstakingly gather the materials the outcome from the gacha is terrible, it leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

But now the question is, why something that belongs to fiction would appear in real life? I have mana, does that mean this world has magic?

DING!

A holographic window appeared on the screen and words started to surface on the screen.

[The first gacha per day will not drain Mana!]

A golden round capsule appeared, and with the effect of the capsule breaking, a holographic window appeared.

[Rare Stand Acquired] [Hanged Man]

Rarity: Mythical.

[Description: Hanged Man is a Stand that attacks via reflections. Rather than attacking a person directly, it will appear on a reflective surface and attack their reflection. The person will then bear the results of the attack, seemingly from an invisible assailant. Hanged Man can move through any type of reflecting surface, including human eyes, at the speed of light. Once summoned it consumes 3 stamina per second to maintain its presence.

Stand: A Stand is an entity psychically generated by its owner, referred to as a Stand User. It generally presents itself as a figure hovering over or near the user and possesses abilities beyond that of an ordinary human, which, depending on the Stand User, can be wielded for good or evil.

Stands are attached to their User's body. In that case, any damage the Stand sustains results in an equivalent injury on the User's body and vice-versa. Exceptions to this rule include automatic Stands and bound Stands, which usually do not reflect the damage into the User.

Power: B.

Speed: A.

Range: A.

Durability: D

Precision: B.

Potential: D.

[Weakness: it can only move between reflective surfaces in a linear pattern and is forced to move to another reflection in front of it if its current location stops reflecting.]

'Attack their reflection?' All I could do is gawk at the screen in utter shock. A chill traveled down my spine. Even though I can use it for only 3 seconds, that minuscule amount is enough to kill a group of people, if everything written about the stand is true.

Pondering over what I just read, I found it hard to believe that this new life of mine will be anything but normal. The sudden appearance of this "Status screen" established one thing for sure and that is hiding behind the veil of normality hides a whole different world.

And I am worried yet excited about the things I might find on the other side. But I ain't no fool, heading straight into the unknown without any knowledge would be a mistake that might even cost my life, I had to tread carefully in unknown waters.

"Home"

The room was familiar, it had belonged to Issei. The wooden floor, the creamy orange walls, the peaked ceiling, the black curtains around the window, the study desk held a computer, with the phone line for the modem stapled along the floor to the nearest phone jack, the stack of adult erotica and magazines inside the cardboard, that he never bothered to hide — these were all part of Issei life.

"Don't jack off too much, son. I might have to admit you again." My father's words nearly made me lose my footing.

"Who do you take me for?" I managed to squeeze out some words. He just laughed and patted my back. He left me alone and red-faced, I was trying not to dwell too much on that fact... but— Fuck this is embarrassing, I had to get rid of them, and those posters too.

As I took in the room, my eyes noticed my reflection on the mirror as I brushed my fingers through my hair. What reflected in the mirror is the image of a young skinny man with shoulder-length gray hair, and sharp brown eyes.

You telling a guy with a face like that can't score a girlfriend? Just how high is the standard of this world? Even though Issei didn't relate well to people his age, I knew better, throughout my life I have met girls who have no issues with their partner being a pervert, but that is really half of the story, of course, there is a time and place for perversion. And that time comes after the other person has agreed to engage in your perversion with you. So starting at people, saying rude things to people that have not agreed is not cool.

In Issei's case, it was his two friends that are further deluding his image, I can't understand why they are even allowed to set their foot on the school grounds. Telling fellow classmates "That I will rape you in my mind" is not cool at all.

That fool could find himself behind bars, life would be practically over for him. Finding employment can be next to impossible. Being an ex-con is no walk in the park. You are for all intents & purposes a modern-day slave and will forever be a second-class citizen, no matter the herculean efforts put forth, just to have a normal life.

But most importantly the most damage will be inflicted on the honor of your parents. They will be shunned, cursed for the deeds that they haven't committed.

Of course, the girls will ignore me like the plague if I was friends with someone like that! Issei just how desperate you were to make friends with someone like them? You have been in a coma for a year and two months, they never bothered to check up on you and you call them best friends. If it was my old friends they would go to big lengths just to save their friends from any situation, I have done it, and they also have made sacrifices.

That's a true friend.

As I kept on staring at my pallid reflection in the mirror and pondered about my life, I suddenly remembered about the Stand I got this morning.
