2 Chapter One

Bambina

As I do every night, I grab my clothes and head over to the park nearby. It was empty tonight. Really quiet even. Usually, I would hear people still walking the beach, sometimes heading to the park, leaving me to find some place else to go.

To be completely honest, I only know of two places, aside from the beach. The park, obviously. And, just recently, I found an abandoned building on the other side of the beach. I found it one day when I was running from the park because I heard voices heading over.

Now, I come to the park to swing for awhile then find the free book stand. Afterwards, I head to the abandoned building and store them there.

A few days after I found the building, I stole a flashlight from the beach so I could see where I'm going. Now I can see to read as well.

I sit on the swing and give myself a kick start. Even after having legs every night for a year, it's still an unbelievable feeling every night. I wish I could stay this way.

But, wishes never come true.

Maybe if I wasn't so terrified the humans would find out my secret, I could've made friends instead of ran away. But, just one mistake, I could be sharkbait.

My stomach rumbles out of no where and I look down and glare at my stupid growling stomach.

Food cost money, which I don't have. So, its not like I could satisfy my hunger needs. I would just have to wait until morning. My stomach of course didn't agree.

I hear a deep chuckle and I look up quickly. A boy, maybe my age, give or take a year, was standing against the fence staring at me with a cute smile on his lips.

I gasp and quickly stop the swings. How could I have been so careless? I should have been listening for noises to signal someone has arrived, not listening to my rambling thoughts!

Oh, my goldfish! I am so sharkbait.

"I've never seen you around here before." He tells me, taking a step forward. "Are you new or something?"

I shake my head slowly. I look around him to see if anyone else was around but, I didn't see anybody.

"My names Aiden Parker." He smirks when I continue to stay silent. "And your name is..?"

"B-B-Bambina. Bambina Gallegar." I stutter.

He extends his hand towards me, waiting for me to accept it. I don't, of course. I just look down at his hand. I don't even know what to say to him.

He is the first human I've had any contact with. He had all the power and he's yet to realize that. That's what terrified me the most. If he doesn't leave by morning, he could find out.

But, it couldn't hurt to be with another person for one night. Right? To have someone to talk to instead of fish. It would be really nice.

"Bambina!" I snap out of my thoughts and notice he's much closer than he once was. "You okay there, Bambi? You spaced out for a minute there."

I look up into his deep blue eyes as he looks down at me. I nod to let him know I'm fine but stop once all of his words hit me.

"Bambi?" I ask.

He smirks again. "It's perfect. When you look at me, your like a deer caught in the headlights. And, its short for your name."

"I like Bambina." I tell him shyly.

"I do, too. It's a very beautiful name." I feel my cheeks heat up and I try to hide my blush with my hair.

I stand there awkwardly for awhile, not knowing what to say. Finally, he speaks once again.

"Are you hungry?" He asks. I quickly shake my head in denial but he chuckles, causing me to stop and look at him. "I heard your stomach growling."

Sighing, I run my fingers through my hair. "Food cost money. I don't have any of that. But it's okay!" I tell him quickly.

He raises an eyebrow. "Come on, my treat."

My ears perk up to the sound of his beautiful words. But, then realize I'd have to be around more people. Obviously I can't do that so I shake my head.

"I think I'll just stay here. Maybe another time." I lie. After tonight he will never see me again.

He laughs. "Okay. Or, if you'd rather, I could go pick some up and we can eat it here." He offers.

I look up at Aiden. "Why would you do that?"

He shrugs. "I mean, you obviously don't want to be seen so I take it that you're a runaway..?"

"Yes! A runaway. That's what I am." I nod quickly in agreement.

He chuckles. "I'll be back soon, Bambi."

He winks at me before turning around and walking through the fences opening.

Excitement arises in the pit off my stomach. I'm finally going to eat human food for the first time since I was cursed!
