16 16:Late again

I was late for school.... again.

I jumped out of bed knowing that I had less than 5 minutes to reach the hell hole.

I jumped in the shower and stayed there while brushing my teeth. Soap , shampoo, tooth paste ... I lathered whatever I found on my skin and then washed and dried myself quickly.

My thumping steps alerted Dad as I sped down the stairs like a bulldozer.

"Bye Dad",I said grabbing an apple and ran for the door.

I cannot afford to be late again!

"Whoa watch out", said he when I almost rammed into the locked thing.

Damn you door...

"Oops sorry... have a great day", shouted a crazy me and I grabbed the nearest jacket and ran out the door.

I stormed down the street, pushing my feet as fast as I can.

I can't be late for school because of a boy.

This is what you get for trying to impress boys...

I wasn't trying to impress anyone! Shouted I to Ms.Mind the Know It All.

The cold air rushed into my airways and my thighs started to ache. I couldn't run anymore; feeling the urge to collapse.

I slowed down my speed and came to a stop bending my knees and putting my hands on it.

Air....

I took out my phone to look at the time.

8:04 am...

Looks like there was no need to rush anymore, I was late anyways.

I groaned internally and started walking for school, more cars zoomed past while I dragged along with slumped shoulders.

My eyes burned from the lack of sleep while my feet groaned for making them work.

Lord I don't want to go to school today.

A car zoomed by me and came to a stop. The driver popped out his head,

"Hey Rose?"

I looked up, " Ryder?"

"Hop in", said he with a nod of his head.

I nearly cried of happiness.

Sigh...

This is too surreal. I hopped in and fastened my seat belts.

"Hi", his girlfriend, Shannon.... Savannah? turned round to greet me from the front seat.

"Oh hi!", said I.

"It's chilly today huh"

"Yeah it is... b-but I've got my jacket so its fine"

"Umm you guys late for school like me ... what happened"

"Oh... we were busy...", said Ryder and reached out to squeeze Shannon's thigh, both of them sharing a couple-y lovey- dovey look.

"Oh", was my reply and I looked away politely.

Right now I would rather be a third wheel than a frozen Popsicle.

"What about you?"

"I... slept in", I nodded my head and looked out the window.

Shannon and Ryder continued to have conversations while I enjoyed some quiet and peace. Once in a while she would turn around, smile and explain what they were talking about to make me feel included.

Honestly I didn't care but she was so kind....

Soon we reached school and I reluctantly jumped out of the car.

Two more minutes in and I would have slept.

"Thanks for the ride"

"Yeah no problem", replied Ryder with a smile as he took his backpack out and locked the car.

"We should hang out sometime", said Shannon as she walked over to Ryder and interlaced her hands with his.

"Yeah ... sure", said I feigning nonchalance.

Shannon turned to her boyfriend,

"Ry when are we going to that place again with Tristan and Lo?"

"Saturday...", said he and wrapped his arm around her shoulder placing a kiss on her head.

"You wanna join us..its this really cool hiking spot"

"Uh-"

The last time I went with them...things didn't go well.

"Yeaah sure"

I bit my lip and stuffed my hands into my jean pocket.... I hoped my doubts weren't visible in my words.

"Great! see you on Saturday"

Shannon beamed and we exchanged numbers to let me know about the time later.

I turned around and began walking to school.

Why do I get myself in trouble all the time.
