4 The World of Eternal Moon

Pan and I walked through this forest what felt like forever.

"Pan, when do you think will we arrive?"

"In about two days."

"What?!"

"Yeah, in two days, our walking speed is fast so I think two days is accurate."

"Wait!" I stopped.

She looked at me in a questioning manner.

"What do you mean – two days?! Why so long, I thought this is just a regular forest and we were halfway already out?"

"It's because it is a forest that we need two days and I mean normally I would need at least a week. So two days is incredibly fast."

"Why would you need a week?"

"Because of the monsters that are normally everywhere. But for some reason, there aren't any in our vicinity."

"Monsters?! What monsters?"

"Like Forest Gnomes, Ents and Elementals and many more. Why do you ask, this is common knowledge? Didn't you learn that from your parents? Didn't you meet any monsters when you came here?"

Did she ask these questions now?

"No, I didn't come here through the forest. I went to sleep and woke up in that cage." I told the truth.

"Oh … were you kidnapped?"

"I don't think so."

"Phew… Fortunately. The slave traders commonly kidnap in the little villages around the forests. But then if you were not kidnapped, how could you come to this forest. I don't sense any blessings from you."

Now I'm in trouble…

"I don't have any blessings so you can't sense any. And like I said I don't remember anything so these questions are pointless."

"Ok, I won't ask more…"

She looked down… I didn't want to make her feel disappointed.

"But maybe I will remember something. Once it happens I will inform you first. And I would like to go to the guild to get a rank. You mentioned that it's free of charge."

"Great! And the registration as an adventurer is free of charge but you can only do it one time. If you register as a higher ranked, you'll need to pay a processing fee.

"Hmm… sounds logical. And this ranking system, how is that?"

"There are eleven ranks that I know of, but I think there might be more. When you register you get the rank of a recruit. Once you pass an exam you'll be an apprentice. As an apprentice, you have to follow a higher ranked adventurer. Once he thinks you're ready you get the rank of a disciple. From there on you can do quests alone. When you have enough points from finished quests you'll rank up to ranger… I don't think you need to know more… Even if you wanted I could just name the ranks and not how you get them."

"No thank you that's enough information for now."

"No problem."

Pan and I spent the next day discussing various things. I think I'm in a different world. It's just too realistic.

From Pan I got to know a lot of information on the ranking system, the normal life here, the social order and many rules in this country, we're currently in, has.

××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××

This is the country of Escaria.

In the surroundings are the countries of Luben to the east, Ubros to the south and Keseya to the north. To the west is the big mountain range of isolation. (Pan wouldn't say why it has such a name.) No one knows what is behind these mountains, but Pan warned me to never ever do a quest which asks for information on that specific topic. It seems no one ever came back…

I also asked how this world was called. Eternal Moon… I wonder what this name means.

I already expected it but I already spent a whole day in this world (my dream) and I still can't go back.

I tried to once when I went to sleep… nothing happened.

Now it's already the second day after my arrival here. Pan and I reached the end of the forest around noon and spent the rest of the day walking along the road surrounded by grass fields.

A little time after the sun went down we came to a stop. In front of us was a huge stone wall. The gate was left from us. The guardsman asked for our guild cards. In this world, you can only leave the cities when you are an adventurer or go with one… So he let me through even when I didn't have one because Pan was with me.

Once we were inside the city Pan led me to an inn. She said that the guild is closed already. We spent the night there. Pan had to pay for me because I still don't have any money.

First thing in the morning we went to the guild.

On the way, I noticed that the people gave me weird stares.

"Pan, why do the people stare at me like I'm some monster?"

"Hmm? That's probably because of your appearance… You'll see why at the guild.

At the guild.

"You go to the mirror there…" Pan points in the corner next to the window.

I nodded.

Once I stood before the mirror I closed my eyes before I could see anything… I just hope I'm still myself.

(For the sake of comparison: Sam is looking like the girl in the cover normally in her reality)
