9 Into the wilds we go

I was thoroughly shocked. I don't come from this world and the common sense here doesn't really work for me and now I am expected to suddenly live in the wilds?!

Surely 10 minutes just went by with me standing while staring at Pan.

My inner conflict lost its motivation to even think about common sense anymore. It somehow accepted this new world just like this at that moment. You could say I snapped.

______________

Around us were different paths. One leading into a valley another one leading up the mountains and the third one was more like an animal trail. I looked at the footprints on the third path. Looked like a deer.

"Pan we'll take this one."

Surprisingly I chose right. After only about an hour we found a stream with fishes in it.

I used my dagger to carve myself a spear-like stick. After a few tries, I somehow got the hang of using it and I got ourselves fish for lunch. Yes, lunch, not breakfast.

"Congratulations! You now know how to get yourself food." Pan clapped.

"It wasn't as easy as it looked, believe me." I still had to fail numerous times to fish only two.

In addition to the part where we have to stay alive in this mountain for five days, we also have another task. It determines the ranking we get at the end. We have to hunt a certain amount of 'beasts', which include bears and wolves.

I finally came over myself and accepted that Pan won't help me with the fighting. But I still had to ask her.

"Pan, could you at least teach me some basics?"

"What do you understand under basics?"

"Well, firstly how to swing the sword and how to feint an attack and lastly how to dodge."

"Hmm..." Two minutes later:

"I can at least show you, I think?"

"Yes please"

And so my first training in 'how to fight' began.

"NOOO! You're doing it all wrong! You have to it like this!"

"What does 'this' mean, you aren't even showing me anything worthwhile!"

"Huh! Nothing worthwhile? Who asked me to show you some basics?"

"Me, but I wasn't expecting you to be such a terrible teacher. I should have asked you."

"Great now I am a terrible teacher, anything else? Maybe a horrifying saviour or an oddly demanding recommender?"

"..." I was dumbfounded. "Sorry."

"Hmph!"

"You are also a great benefactor."

"Ah, so I am a great benefactor too? ... Wait, what?"

"Great benefactor?

"What is a benefactor?"

"..." For totally another reason, but I am again stunned.

Pan tilted her head to the right and looked at me with great interest... She is still the naive Pan I know. I only know her for a few days... Great, now I am losing my sense of time.

"A benefactor is someone you hold dear because he helped you in your bad time."

"I did?"

"Yes, you did."

"OK. Why were we fighting again?"

"Because I'm a terrible student."

"Right! But I'm also not a good teacher, so we both have to work hard."

Even if you shouldn't even help me... XD Thanks naive Pan.

At the end of the day, I got the hang of handling the dagger, but the sword is still far from usable. For me at least.
