VIXX

The locker corridors had a steady stream of students entering noisily catching up on the latest gossip that they had missed out on over the week holiday received after midterm. Like in every high school, Vixx imagined, there were specific cliques for different people to hang out in and as she made her way down them searching for her locker, she felt insecure and out of place.

She clutched on to the edge of her skirt and focused on the square chit of paper in her hand, which had her locker number scribbled in it- 0324, it read. She looked at each locker but all the numbers started from 1 and not 0. After wandering about aimlessly, feeling hopelessly lost, she leaned against a silent locker, waiting for the corridors to clear out. Perhaps she would have a better chance of finding it then.

"Excuse me?"

Vixx looked up, surprised, and found herself staring at a tall, lean boy, wearing blue jeans and a plain white shirt beneath a thick wool jacket. He had a messy atmosphere Vixx noticed, as she brought her eyes up to his…helmet?

"You're staring," his voice came, muffled, "And," he leaned forward slowly making Vixx turn her head away hastily, "You're blocking my locker."

"Oh," Vixx jumped aside, "I'm sorry." She didn't leave, but stood watching as he stuffed his bag inside the locker and pulled out two books to his hand. Peeking over his bent helmet, she saw the subject on top of it, "Mathematics". She sighed with relief; the subject coincided with what she had for the first period and she decided to first attend class and look for her locker later. The slam of his locker door shook her out of her thoughts. "WHAT are you still doing here?"

"Sorry, I just noticed that you had math first period and-."

"Look. Could you go annoy someone else, I'm not in the mood right now."

He turned around and left, his head still hidden inside the black of his helmet. As he walked away, she followed him from a few feet away, knowing she had nothing to lose even if she did get caught. He walked so fast that when he turned around the corner she had to hurry to keep up. She stayed as close as possible and when she saw his back disappear into a room, she quickly rushed inside. As she shut the door silently behind her, she felt a hand grab her shoulder roughly and pressed her against the wall. Pain ebbed the back of her head as it got struck making her flinch. "What the hell are you doing?" the boy asked, his voice muffled and angry. He had not taken the helmet off yet.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm just new here and I couldn't find my locker and didn't know where my class was and don't know anyone here yet and I followed you because I saw that we both have Math first [period and-"

"Okay, woah you can stop talking now. Slow down." The pressure of his hand on her shoulder released but he didn't let go. "You should have just told that you needed help."

"Er…next time I'll remember to," Vixx stammered.

The boy chuckled. "Whats your locker number, I'll help you find it."

"0324."

"Oh." The boy sounded surprised.

"What lab is this?" Vixx asked softly, looking around, slowly. She dropped her hands to her side as Helmet stepped back and sat on a rotating stool.

"You're pretty cute, you know. This is the old biology lab. Its not in use anymore though. They say it's haunted," he whispered the end leaning forward.

"Who say?"

Helmet cocked his head to one side and looked at her not saying anything. She couldn't see it but she felt his eyes bore into her, making her more curious about him.

"Let's go get you to your locker then," he said standing up and rubbing his hands on his jean. He extended it to her and surprised but grateful for his ready assistance, she brought her hand to his and let him clasp it as he walked out the room and to her locker.

KYLE

As Kyle approached Stey, he found her leaning against the wall between 2 lockers with her eyes shut and shoulders hunched. Before he could decide if it was a good idea to approach her or not, she spoke out, "If you're going to ask if I spoke to Jayden or not, then don't."

"I wasn't going to."

"Liar," she scolded.

"How did you know it was me?"

"Your helmet smell; did you wash it with paint?"

"Ha ha," Kyle rolled his eyes and pressed his grip tighter on the soft hand he was holding. "I painted it black, ofcourse seeing as I was inspired by your ex boyfriend." He knew he was pushing but he enjoyed provoking Stey whenever it came to her relationships. Although she was such an intelligent girl she fell short whenever it came to guys.

"Shut up." Her eyes snapped open and she glared at him. "Why, you! I'm going to- who's this?"

Kyle gestured to the new student to come forward. "This is my girlfriend. She transferred schools to be more close to me."

"What?" the two girls asked at the same time.

"You're joking," Stey scoffed, still glaring at him. "What's her name?"

"Oh," Kyle turned to her, "I still am not sure. I was going to break up with her actually, because she wasn't going to."

"Kyle!" Stey she brought out a clenched fist and jumped up to hit his helmet. "Shut up already," Stey ordered.

To Kyle's surprise, the new girl beside him in her flowery clothing, stopped forward. "Hey, don't hit my boyfriend," she spoke up.

Kyle chuckled. "Oh then we're dating already?"

"If I tell you my name like you said you wanted me to, we could."

Stey applauded slowly but loudly and grinned. "Wow, you two are perfect for each other. Kyle you finally met your match." She laughed and grabbed hold of Kyle's free hand, pulling him away from the other girl.

"You do not want to date him," she reported, her eyes on the new girl.

"Why not?"

"He's ugly," Stey stated. At that Kyle punched her, "How dare you? You liar!"

The new girl gestured at him to stop. "It's okay that he's ugly. He can just continue wearing that helmet forever."

Stey laughed loud and slapped his back really hard, "Oh damn. She's legit." She turned to Kyle and demanded, "Take that stupid helmet off and prove me wrong."

Kyle coughed into it, "I'd rather not." Just then the bell rang, giving Kyle his chance of escape. "Oh, I'm late for class. Got to run off now, bye girlfriend," he waved at her and took off at top speed.

VIXX

"Is he really ugly?" Vixx asked the short girl beside her as they watch Helmet leave.

"Kyle? No not really." She seemed to think for a moment and then shook her head. "Actually yes he is. So avoid him when you run into him."

Kyle, she thought. So that's his name.

"Well atleast he's nice."

"Don't fall for his tricks," the girl advised. "Besides why date someone who's only nice on the inside?" she leaned sideways and grinned. "Go for someone who's crazy good looking on the outside."

Vixx frowned, but didn't say anything about it. The girl beside her extended her hand and smiled, "I'm Stey, Stey Carrie."

"Vixx Parker. It's nice to meet you."

Stey's grip tightened. "Is it?"

What? Vixx thought to herself. She steeled her mind but the grip on her hand relaxed and the smiled returned to Stey's voice. "Relax. Jeez you're so easy to tease. Im not surprised Kyle tries to flirt with you."

-

A few minutes later once Vixx was done arranging the books in her locker, she turned her eyes to Stey who was leaning against the locker, eyes fixed on her phone screen. She couldn't help but stare because Stey was really beautiful, her long eye lashes curled upwards and and her full lips, a soft red hue. She was adorned in a loose jean with long sleeve red teeshirt beneath a soft grey shirt, unbuttoned with a blue shirt over it.

"Out lockers are next to each other, which is weird. I haven't had a locker buddy for a year."

"Huh?" Vixx was shaken from her thoughts. She pretended to pull out her math book from the locker and saw Stey smirking at her. "What?" she asked.

Stey smiled, looking her up and down, "Are you not cold? Your wearing a thin skirt and its winter."

"Aren't you hot?" Vixx retailiated. Stey raised her arms in surrender. "Easy, Vixxen," she stated and then muttered under her breath, "It's winter."

"My name is Vixx," Vixx reported firmly, then closed her locker shut. "What were you saying about us being locker buddies?"

"Look," Stey gestured towards her locker and said smiling, "oh-three-two-five."

0325. Yes, that was what her locker showed, but Vixx wondered why she was the only student using the lockers from the unused side of the school building.

"Let's go, Vixxen, before the second bell for Math rings."

"How did you-" Vixx wanted to ask but Stey cut her off, waving her phone at her.

"Kyle texted me, now hurry."

Nodding again Vixx followed her closely, hoping atleast this time she had started her new school meeting the right people.

"Were you always using the lockers in the old side of the school all alone?" Vixx dared to ask. She felt Stey stiffen and her footsteps become heavier.

"Perhaps."

"So you have had a locker partner before? There were only two lockers in the corridor earlier."

"Perhaps."

Stey's plain answers only made Vixx more curious. "So what happened to them? They changed lockers?"

"He left school," Stey said softly, standing still.

"Why?"

"You know what Vixxen. Find you own way to class," she commanded, her voice a shrill tone. She turned around and marched off leaving Vixx standing alone in the quiet hallways.
