Chapter 116: The Slytherin Test (Edited)

Tom and Hermione returned to the hill outside Hogwarts again, this time, when they saw the crown of hair and the necklace with the cross in their hands, they had completely different feelings.

Hermione carefully put them away.

"Tom, you said what we just experienced..."

"It could be the story as it really happened, only in the real world line, odds are Benn and Elaine failed to complete each other's request... hence the picture now." Tom said as close to the truth as he could get.

Hermione looked up at the night sky and sighed.

"It's cold, let's go back." She suggested, and turned back towards the tunnel ahead of them.

As they turned back to the Chamber of Secrets, they realized that it looked like they had just entered curfew, so they could only stay in the Chamber of Secrets.

"Hermione, come here!" Tom called Hermione to the elevator and got up with her, leading her towards the hut Slytherin had left behind.

"This could be the treasure left behind by Salazar Slytherin, I'll go in first and try it, you mustn't touch this door, I'm afraid there's a trap up there, in case you get caught in it too."

Hermione frowned when she heard there was a problem, "Then why don't we look for Professor Dumbledore?"

"That won't be necessary." Tom shook his head. In the end, it was his greed, he wanted to enjoy this secret treasure alone. If Dumbledore was involved, how much profit would he have been left with? fifty points for Ravenclaw?

And his courage to explore was only based on Nirvana and his analysis of the Chamber of Secrets.

What was the Chamber of Secrets for? At first it was for teaching, then it changed its use, but it was also reserved by Slytherin for their heirs. In other words, it's more of a gift to newcomers from their predecessors, so why leave any trappings? It's more of a test.

Basilisks are deadly, but to face them you have to be able to speak Parseltongue. But if you can speak Parseltongue, as the Slytherin legate dictates, the basilisk will do what you say and not harm you. The basilisk is more of a "pet" that Slytherin left to his descendants.

It even felt like a five-star magical pet, given away at the push of a button.

Tom looked at the door now, and it no longer seemed very dangerous to him. Imagine a Slytherin heir entering the Chamber of Secrets, finding the door, touching it, and dying.

Isn't that ridiculous? why would Slytherin kill his own heir?

Tom predicted that the door would, at best, trap you or banish you. In that case, there was nothing to fear.

"I'll go in and try it, and if I'm not out by tomorrow, you can go back to Professor Dumbledore." After Tom and Hermione had analyzed his judgment of the door, he set out to enter and explore the space behind it.

Before entering, however, he said in Parseltongue, "I salute Slytherins, greatest of the Founding Four," and then, reaching out, he touched the silver door.

The moment he touched the door, it felt less like metal and more like some sort of liquid, and then a suction came through the door, pulling Tom inside.

Once inside, Tom was surprised to find a man sitting across from him.

They were no more than ten feet apart, and he could see every hair on the man's head.

Tom took a closer look at the man's face and was even more surprised: he looked exactly like the statue of Slytherin outside!

Could Slytherin still be alive? The thought crossed Tom's mind, but didn't Slytherin leave Hogwarts after a conflict with Gryffindor? did he sneak back?

Tom didn't have time to think anymore, he hurried to bow to Slytherin.

Slytherin, who was sitting, opened his eyes, he was obviously just an ugly old man, but he gave people a strong sense of oppression.

Cold sweat broke out on Tom's back.

"Someone has come for the test again... come closer" Slytherin's voice sounded less like a human voice, more like a snake speaking. After each word, there was the hiss of a snake exhaling.

The tone of the Slytherin's voice was very indifferent, without a hint of emotion. Tom gave him a strange look, something felt off about him, he even had the feeling that this thing in front of him shouldn't be the real Slytherin.

After thinking about this, Tom began to observe the surrounding environment: the room behind the door was a simple structure, more of a staircase than a room, with a small platform and a staircase hidden in the golden smoke. "Slytherin" was sitting on the platform, and his message was clear: he wanted Tom to climb the stairs.

As soon as Tom set foot on the ladder, he heard Slytherin's voice say behind him, "Let me see your talent."

When Tom's foot landed on the first flight of stairs, the scene in front of him suddenly changed: Tom was in an open room with three tables.

Tom made his way to the first table and found a few small vials and a cauldron on it, and a recipe for a very basic potion on the side of the table.

Tom quickly prepared the potion.

He then went to the next table and found a small, simple spell on it, which Tom cast without much difficulty.

On the third table, there was a kit for carving runes and an hourglass. As soon as Tom picked up the carving knife, the hourglass began to count, and the test on this table is to carve runes for a limited time.

When Tom finished carving, the ladder appeared before him and he was already on the first step. Tom found that he had no recollection of the tests in the first room, except for a vague recollection of the general categories of the tests.

"Potions, spells and runes..." Tom understood the Slytherin's thinking, he wanted to test his heir's talent in these three areas. The potion formula, the main points of the spell and the rune pattern are all unknown and had to be learned by the participants themselves. It is true that the store of knowledge is not tested much, the test is talent and understanding.

However, the first level was very easy.

Tom passed the next three levels, but at the fourth level he ran out of time to carve the runes. So, on level five, the table representing alchemy disappeared from the room.

Tom was a little sad: he could have carved the rune, but he didn't have enough time.

In the seventh room, Tom's potion had trouble being prepared, so in the eighth room only the table representing the spell remained. But the spell on the table was turning into black magic. Tom thought he was reaching the end of the test, but as the questions leaned toward black magic, he made it to the end....

And he made it all the way to the bottom of the stairs.

There was also a Slytherin sitting at the bottom of the stairs, but this Slytherin's expression was much more vivid.

As he watched Tom walk up, he gave him an ugly grin.

"At last, another has passed the test I left behind and stood before the great Slytherin. As a reward for your efforts, I grant you permission to sit before me."

A chair in the same style as Slytherin appeared in front of Tom, who bowed to Slytherin and sat in the chair.

"You must have a lot of questions, ask them." Slytherin could see that Tom had a lot of questions and confusion in his mind.

"It's a bit presumptuous, but I'd like to ask, how have you survived so far? the Horcruxes?"

As if insulted, the Slytherin said, "Horcruxes? You underestimate me, using a Horcrux to gain immortality is something I have no interest in doing, but if you want to learn, I can teach you."

"I don't suppose you're a student of Slytherin house?" The Slytherin saw the distrust Tom felt towards him.

"I'm from Ravenclaw house." Now Tom was glad he wasn't in Gryffindor, or he would have been kicked out right away.

"That's right, there's no way a student from any of the other houses would have passed my previous test, but with the way you just acted in the test, it's a shame you didn't get into Slytherin. I don't have to lie to you, this form really isn't a Horcrux."

"So you are..." Tom said.

"It's just a puppet with memories of Slytherin. The other three boys should have left something similar, but the Gryffindor ruffian probably didn't." Slytherin made no further progress on the subject, "Come on, now that you've passed the test, you can pick a legacy of mine."

"Has anyone passed the test before me?" Tom didn't rush to pick a legacy, but asked another seemingly irrelevant question.

"No, someone before me came one step closer to meeting me, but they also had enough."

"I see. Great Slytherin, I want to gain knowledge from you."

"That tone, so Ravenclaw." spat Slytherin, and then a small table appeared at hand with three scrolls of parchment and a silver snake statue on it, "These three scrolls of parchment are valuable pieces of occult knowledge I have collected, take your pick."

"As for the small snake, you take it into the other room, stick it on the door and you will learn a spell."

The Slytherin pushed the little table in front of Tom, then stopped talking.

Tom looked at the little table and tried to differentiate the three rolls of parchment, but failed, they all looked the same on the outside, all three were very plain. The scrolls were a little yellowed on the outside. The fact that they had been kept in the Chamber of Secrets for a thousand years and were still intact was the most extraordinary thing about them.

Finally, Tom picked up the middle scroll.
