6 Chap 6: Restless

Ryan

When I am home, I visit Chloe for the weekend but this Saturday I spent it with Mia. I forgot to check my phone and inform Chloe about it. After our dinner I immediately shot a message to her and apologized.

'Sorry! For not informing. Will surely make it up' I kept the phone on my bedside table and went off to sleep.

The next morning I was woken up by the continuous vibration on my phone. I picked up and heard Chloe's voice.

"So? This has been the longest you haven't spoken to me....."

"..."

"Ryan?" I could hear some one call out my name but I didn't have the energy to respond to her.

"Ryan!!!" She screamed at the top of her voice and all my sleep went away.

"Yeah. I am awake now!" I got up and sat on my bed She always liked to get up early and ruin everyone's sleep

"So How was she?" she repeated with agitation, but who was she talking about and why so early in the morning?

"Who?"

"Caroline!!!!" She yelled again. I had to remove the phone from my ear for a few seconds.

"Fine"

"Fine?" she sounded surprised

"Yeah"

"Really? I thought you guys hit it off and probably spent the whole Saturday together" she was surprised with my answer

"I was busy with work and not her"

"Oh God! you and your work"

" I got to go!" I said

"Where?"

"Bye"

"Ryan!"

"Bye" I cut the phone and saw the time on the clock, it was 5:10 am. I got up and did my morning exercise, my morning routine and I worked.

Mia.

It has been 6 months and I still haven't heard anything from Noah. I met him in my previous office where we worked together. We were neighbour in the same building too. Gradually we spent a lot of time together, on weekdays we would travel back and forth to the office, and on weekends we would go out either for a movie or try a new restaurant. Once we decided to spend a weekend at a resort and during dinner he asked me out. I was really happy that I finally had a boyfriend just like my office friends. But with time I realized his work and to earn money was more of a priority than anything to him. I was initially impressed with it but now I hated it. He wanted to open his own company and then sell it off to some big companies, do MBA and marry me after being a billionaire. I, on the other hand, was in my mid twenties, not very ambitious but I knew I had to get an MBA degree for a better position and salary. Eventually I realized we both thought differently, he was a very practical person, and I a sensitive person, but I still wanted to be with him.

"Earth to Mia" Ariel knocked on my head

"Huh! Yea," I looked at Ariel who stood in front of me

"Are you planning to go back home? Will be having 3 months plus 10 days extra break" Ariel said as she sat on her bed

"Nope, the flight cost is too much so I shall be staying here while looking for an internship."

"We still have 2 months to look for the internship. If you wish to go back home Mia I can sponsor it." Ariel said. She came from a very influential and elite family. She had wealth and had her dad's company to look after. Money was never a problem for her. I came from a middles class family, my dad was a retired defense officer and my mom was a playschool teacher so earning and savings were very important to us.

"That's so sweet but I think I will be staying here," I said and smiled at Ariel. I knew she had a very good heart.

"I and Emily will be going back home. Will you be comfortable living alone?" She asked, clearly worried for me.

"Yeah. I will be fine. don't worry."

"Ok, Goodnight darling"

"Goodnight and thank you, Ariel"

"Shut up, you know I will do anything for you," She said and smiled.

"I know and I would do the same," I said to her and thanked God for such an amazing friend.

The next day after the classes I headed towards 'HappyC'. While I worked I saw Ryan with a small girl in the store. It had been weeks since I last saw Ryan. He looked good with his blue jeans, light pink-colored T-shirt with a sweet smile. He could make anyone falter. He got a lot of attention in the store but his eyes were only on me which made me a little uncomfortable.

"Hi," I said with a surprise but happy smile.

"Its good to see you,"

"Yeah. Been weeks"

"A month exactly," he said and looked serious.

"So who is this cute little one?" I asked. Her head reached till Ryan's knees. She had held one of his legs with her arm circled around it and looked at me shyly.

"She is my niece," he said and looked proudly at her. She had the same hazel eyes as him. She had two cute blond side ponytails and wore a light green color frill dress. I squatted so I could see her eye to eye

"Wow what a pretty dress you are wearing, what is your name?" I asked in a child-like tone.

"I am Nina," she said shyly and tried to hide behind Ryan's leg.

"Oh what a lovely name, I am Mia" I extended my hand to her. She looked at Ryan who only smiled at our exchange. She accepted my handshake.

"how old are you?" I asked

"I am two, going to be thwee," She said while she showed 2 and 3 no. on her fingers.

"Wow, big girl! do you like chocolates?"

"Yes!!" She said in excitement. She came forward and extended her palm to me. I got up and gave her two bars of chocolate from the counter. She was so thrilled, she immediately opened the wrapper and started to eat them.

"So, what brings you here?" I looked at Ryan. l was happy to see him.

"Nothing. Just thought of getting Nina some free chocolates which are now done" he looked at me with a mischievous look.

"Yeah? Well, I am happy" I laughed,

"So would you like to have lunch with us? I am sure it's your lunchtime?". How did he know this? I was surprised but I decided to let it go.

"I don't think it's a good idea, have a lot of work and lunchtime is only for 30mins" I lied,

"Oh..Ohk no issues. Well...Nina has her birthday this week on Friday and I will be going there after office. I would like to have you accompany me." he sounded confident, "Will be back by midnight, I swear" he requested. "It will be fun to have you, I mean I will be really happy to have you with me," he wanted me to agree with him. He spoke and looked at me with such hope and desperation that I couldn't decipher why he wanted me to come. For once I decided to let my hair down and not think of anything but just to enjoy so I agreed.

"I will come" I looked at him and smiled

"I will pick you up from the hostel at 4:30," he said and there was a huge smile plastered on his face. It looked like he just won a very important battle.

"Ohk" I replied.

"Will take a leave," he said and we wished our goodbyes to each other.
