2 Chapter 2: Life In the Orphanage

Two years had passed since Wang Yong had been brought to the Orphanage he was almost all ways alone and he preferred it that way. He hated the kids and their childlessness, disliked the adults and their sympathy. Well not like he could like any of the children as he barley got to know many of them. He had already been here two years and many of kids had already been adopted. Why would he form a friendship with anybody only for them to eventually leave him.

He like it alone it was comfortable.

However he was tired of being here no one was willing to adopot him as they never came back for second meeting. Mostly because of the awkward silence no matter how much the they wanted him to talk he would just sit there silent.

It wasn't that he couldn't talk but that he would rather not. If there was one person he was close too it would be Jiao Chen. When he had first came to the orphanage he would be bullied alot once there was an older kid trying to take his mother's necklace. The four year old Wang Yong could not stand up to the older kids. So he could only ball up as he was beaten up by the kids as they took his necklace. They did not worry as Wang Yong would not talk to anyone, not even to tell who beat him up so he was always the punching bag and the butt of jokes.

That was until the brave Jiao Chen stood up for him and got his necklace back.

Ever since then Wang Yong would only to Jiao Chen, and she would drag him every where to play, much to the dismay of the other kids. They wondered why the little mute received so much attention from the beautiful Jiao Chen. She was indeed pretty with her almond shaped eyes and her long braided hair, she was loved by everyone not to mention all of the people that wished to adopt her.

The six year old Wang Yong paled in comparison all he was silent pale not to mention the his dingy hair that covered his eye. Many wondered how he could see where he was going. The people that worked at the orphanage would love to help him with his appearance but he would not allow anyone other Jiao Chen to touch him.

" Little Yong-Yon." Wang Yong lost in thought was shocked awake as he turned around to see Jiao Chen waving her hand at him beckoning him over. Little Yong-Yong being a fitting name for the now six ear old child who was shorter than anyone his age not to mention the 9 year old Jiao Chen.

"What?" He asked as Jiao Chen ran over and grabbed his hand. " Little Yong they are giving away taffy in the cafeteria you were always complaining about how you never get any so let go."

Not giving him any chance to refuse she pulled him along to the cafeteria where was a line ofkids young and old.

"We'll never be able to get any like this." He said dismissively looking a the long line. There were approximately forty to fifty kids at the orphanage at any one time and there was never really enough for everyone so it was a first come first serve basis. " Don't worry little Yong just trust your BIg Sis I'll take care of it all I need you to do is cause a distractions and I'll grab us some." Before Wang Yong could ask her another question Jiao Chen has already ran off.

" What am I suppose to do now." he wondered Wang Yong really wanted some taffy and he didn't want to let Jiao Chen down. So he started thinking and decided on something desperate. He looked in the long line and found Yan Xue who had just gotten his candy. He was the one that would always bully him and the person that had tried to steal his necklace "Ah." If there was a light bulb on top of Wang Yong's head it would have lit up.

Sneaking up behind Yan Xue started running and snatched his taffy quickly running.

" Hey, he took my taffy." He shouted aloud as he alerted all the kids and the adults. " Get back here." One of the adults yelled as everyone began to chase after him. Wang Yong however did not stop but went even faster,

" This little...."

As the chase carried on Wag Yong was able to slip into one of his favorite hiding spot being a loner had its privileges. "Phew I made." He said as he wiped the sweat off his face."

" Yea that was close." Someone suddenly said making Wang tong slowly turn his head in fear. " Ahhhhhhh." He shouted as he tried to run off on to be grabbed by his collar and lifted up. " Geez kid the vocal cords on you." Wang Yong turned around only to lose hope. " Headmaster." He mattered under his breath of all the people to get caught him. The headmaster was pure Saint put was also evil when you got in his bad side.

'Well kid didn't think you had it in you stealing from Yan Xue. Not many can do that to their bullies." Wang Yong gave him a flabbergasted look." Oh please kid noting in the orphanage escapes my eyes. So how are you going to make this up to me kid. Actually kid I already have a nice american couple lined up for you." The Headmaster said as he sat Wang Yong down. "Okay." Wang Yong could only give a simply he didn't care either how many interviews had to been to tens if not hundreds he was not worried.

" Oh please don't think you are getting off that easy you have to actually talk and interact with them too." Wang Yong gave him a 'Yeah Sure' look before he started walking off. " If you don't I could also drag Jiao Chen into this too, if you want." He said as he smiled evily. Wang Yong stoped dead in his tracks.

" Wait wait. No I do it I promise." Wang Yong didn't care about himself but Jiao Chen was different she would soon be adopted but no one wanted a naughty child he couldn't let that happen. " Well the Little Yong-Yong." I look forward to your performance tomorrow." He said as he walked off leaving Wang Yong with a solemn expression

Later that night after Wang Yong had fell asleep in his bunk he was awoken by Jiao Chen. " Little Yong.' she beckoned him over. " What are you doing here we could get in trouble." He whispered.

"Well the rumor is you don't follow the rules, I heard you stole Yan Xue's candy you little daredevil."

No one had expected the little Wang Yong to have the guts to steal from Yan Xue. " Follow me?" Wang Yong said as the pair went to one of his hiding spots in the building in the attic and the only spot that Jiao Chen knew about. The was a large window that let them have a good view of the moon at certain times of the night.

The two of them sat there for a while before Jiao Chen faced him. " Little Yong I am going to be adopted." she said. " I am going to America, i think its going to be hard learning a new langauge Little Yong. But I am excited its going to be a new adventure for me. Little Yong you have to stop being so silent if you want to be adopted. I know that there have been many doctor's coming to see you because you don't talk, but you must move forward Little Yong." Wang Yong was the silent type so he could only stay silent as she kept talking.

"Little Yong promise me that no matter how much time passes you wont forget me." She said looking at him.

"En." Wang Yong said.

" No i want you to promise me."

" I promise." He said.

"Good and don't you forget it" She said trying not to cry as she kissed his cheek and ran out of the attic. Wang Yong sat there holding his cheek. " It hurts." He said.

"I knew I would hurt he said."

" Mom it hurts bad" He said clutching his chest.

" But I'll be strong.."

" Mom."
