1 Chapter 1

"Kanox."

"Father," Kanox was in his human form, light blue hair fell in neat curls and blood red eyes were staring at the floor as he kneeled before the Dragon King.

Like all dragon shifters, a pair of horns sprouted from the top of his head, differentiating them from humans.

"You leave for Alucasia Academy tomorrow at first light. Do your best, and don't disappoint me," his father, Malkanor the Conquerer, spoke in a deep, rumbling voice.

Kanox bowed his head deeper. He wasn't bothered by his father's gruff demeanor. He knew he cared in his own way, even if he rarely showed it.

Malkanor's amber eyes flickered away to rest on the amethyst horn resting on the arm of his throne, the only relic he had of his mate, and Kanox took this as his cue to leave.

He rose and bowed one more time before turning and leaving through the great, double doors. The guards saluted him as he passed and he turned a corner, almost barreling into the demon walking the opposite way.

The demon glanced up and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, grinning all the while, "What's up Kanox? I was just looking for you."

The demon was his friend, Sorek, with raven black hair, playful blue eyes and two obsidian horns, Sorek was also entering Alucasia Academy.

As the son of the Demon Lord and the Dragon King respectively, Sorek and Kanox's arrival was highly anticipated at Alucasia Academy as the world held their breath as they waited to see what the heirs of the rulers would be like, though everyone knew the heir of the Dragon King was infinite times more important.

"What did you want?" Kanox was blunt, aloof, and straight to the point, something Sorek was already used to.

"Just wondering, how are we getting to Alucasia?" Sorek was like the opposite of Kanox. Playful, mischievous, and hyper, he was constantly getting in trouble with his father and his advisors as he messed around, though he was powerful and fiercely loyal.

Kanox's eyes flickered to Sorek's, "We're going to fly." Sorek acknowledged this with a nod of his head and gave a half wave over his shoulder as he turned around.

"See ya in the morning then Kanox," he said, tucking his hands behind his neck as he sauntered off.

Kanox headed to his bedroom, shedding his fancy robes and rolling into bed.

The next morning, Kanox donned a pitch-black chestpiece, slim pauldrons, arm guards and shin guards, and a sheathed sword strapped across his back. They were all the highest quality of material and the sword was the magic sword Bathnir, one capable of enhancing his magic power and embuing it into the sword.

Kanox glanced at the mirror and exited his room, heading for the outside. He met up with Sorek right outside the palace and without a word, shifted into his dragon form. He was an amethyst dragon, inherited from his mother, and had amethyst jutting out from his body in deadly spikes.

One quick glance back verified that Sorek had his bat wings out and was catching up to Kanox. Kanox flapped his powerful wings, creating harsh gusts of wind, and set out for the city of Alucasia, home to Alucasia Academy.
