40 Immortal Invasion IV

Kyren arrived in Kassio again and was lead to the high noble that controlled the region. The mansion they were brought before was in the center of the city and it was even larger than the cathedral. Although it wasn't as extravagant compared to the cathedral, it didn't fall far behind. It had an architectural style unique to this world that looked a lot like a combination of many different feudal time styles.

As Kyren was walking up to the entrance, Leo started the recording and he immediately gained a staggering amount of viewers. Most of them were interested in what was going to happen. Maybe they could get some hints on the main storyline?

Krista was made to wait near the entrance but she didn't care all that much. She already knew plenty about the players so it would have been a boring review.

The room he entered inside was even more lavish and flamboyant than the outside. It was a dining room of some sort with a long chestnut brown table stretching across the floor.

At the head was a large man with a dark brown beard and hair. The atmosphere around him was impatient with a little bit of calm-furious as his right hand index finger repeatedly tapped on the wood surface. He was not happy about a couple of cities falling out of the sky and destroying some of his domain.

"I'm Marquis Dunwald. State your name."

"My code name is Kyren."

"Code name?"

"If you were to ask one of the people of my world for their name, it's an unspoken tradition to give their code name, we call it a username, instead of their real name. It's sort of a taboo to give out your real name therefore it's difficult to get their real name without undivided trust."

"That's strange..."

"I know this practice sounds similar to the demonic traditions of giving out titles instead of names but I assure you that it's nothing of the sort."

"Good, so where are you from?"

"Another world."

"Why did you all come here?"

"I can't say."

"Why not?"

"We are obligated by the beings that brought us here to not say. When any of us try to give out any information, it comes out as random gibberish in anyone's ears.

But I can say that one of the main planets was called Earth."

"As in the element?"

"That's what we called our world."

"Hmm, why was your entrance so chaotic? Why did your cities fall out of the sky?"

"We didn't have a choice in the matter. When the next wave comes, it will be far less violent"

He was referring to the end of the betas and when players really started flowing in.

Billions might seem like a lot, but over the last sixty to forty years, Earths population expanded to other planets and boomed like no other period in history. The different brands of human prolonging products also kept the older generations around so the populace didn't decrease as much as it usually did.

"...."

"The event that occurred upon our arrival is commonly called the Immortal Invasion by our people and a choice few from you. It isn't an invasion though, more of like a mass integration."

"Immortals?"

"Yes, we are all immortal. When we die, we revive almost as good as new."

"WHAT!! But the reports say there are tens of millions of you on the continent and your still appearing!?! Are you saying all of you cannot die?!"

"Correct, this world would usually call beings like us Immortal Souls."

His expression became alert as his eyes squinted at Kyren, "Then what do you mean by integration? Are you trying to plant spies?"

"We are all free willed individuals that belong to no one. All of us will start weaving ourselves into the civilizations of this world. I only represent them, they will do whatever they want."

"Are you hostile? Do you all have evil intentions?"

"..... Do you realize what your asking me? It's like me asking you if there are any bad people in Alvestine Empire. Of course there will be some bad apples among us.

I'd like to say that we may be immortal, but we're still living souls just like all of you. Not creatures that only have their survival instincts to get by. Not a hive of bees with a collective purpose and a common leader. Not demons that crave suffering and pain. Just individuals who want to make it big in life just like everyone else.

Some may become adventures while others artisans. We all have ideals and aspirations that are different in every single one of us. We aren't united, we will all do our own thing and join different groups. But we can also sympathize and devote ourselves to causes we deem worthwhile... All in all, we aren't joined together."

The millions of players who were watching the broadcast were a little moved. Marquis Dunwald was also stunned and his previous hostility was slowly diminishing.

"How do you know so much about this world if you only arrived today?"

"There were a few of us, such as myself that arrived in this world around a month ago. You haven't noticed, but we are already a part of society. I myself am an adventurer of this city in fact."

"R-Really?!"

Kyren showed his badge as proof. The Marquis couldn't believe there were immortal beings right under his nose, living a normal life. Maybe he was telling the truth?

"So these cities..."

"They are called Immortal Shrines. You can visit them if you want but if you're not an Immortal Soul like us, then you can only visit for a short period of time. That's one of the rules the beings that brought us here made."

"Ok, so will more appear?"

"Yes, but you need not be concerned."

"Why?"

"They will only appear in places that are now currently undiscovered. If an Immortal Soul goes on an expedition to a land that hasn't been explored, there is a possibility of another will appear. Most of them will stay as smaller versions called Immortal Outposts until an established city or settlement is created nearby."

The world of Irona is ridiculously large and vast. It makes the Earth look like a branch or a twig next to a mighty tree. Sentient beings have been exploring and mapping this planet for tens of millennia, but still haven't come close to discovering even a full sixth of it, even with the convenience of magic.

Immortal Outposts were basically much smaller versions of Immortal Shrines. They would only have the functions of the mini shrines, but not the main shrine. This was to encourage players to create settlements or towns before the outposts were replaced with a full blown shrine.

After some more questioning, Kyren passed his contacts to Dunwald and he left with Krista. The Empire planned to release most of the information they gained to the population and the nearby countries to raise awareness.

His plan for the Immortal Invasion went perfectly. He gained connections to the upper echelons of the Empire by representing the players. He fabricated great hate towards the church, therefore weakening there future strength in Irona greatly. He also established a guild, even though he didn't plan to expand it just yet. His guild needed quality over quantity so that would take some time.

A hidden benefit which he recently discovered was the snow-balling popularity for Krista. Her strength impressed the players and she was becoming an idol and an image of this game. Even though her face was covered by a mask, the people could tell she was a stunning beauty. Fan groups were already being created on the forums and Kyren was greatly amused by the fanatic-like comments.

He also paid the players who happened to capture the churches wrongdoings throughout the continent. Once the time came, he could use these to help put an end to the church using the player's fury. This would have to wait till they were stronger as the church was most likely the largest organization in the entirety of Irona during the war, with influence in nearly every human related civilization. It still was an unrivaled powerhouse.

He was going to be rather busy in the future so he asked Leo to handle the majority of them. A super AI like him was more than capable of fulfilling this task and not get even close to overworked. Super AI's were sometimes used to manage entire cities or galactic colonies!

It's been a very good day for him as he hummed an Earth toon while walking down the road. Krista seemed aloof but her heart was slightly racing as she occasionally glanced at Kyren. She didn't like to admit it at all, but she was falling deeper and deeper into his web.

'What an interesting man....'

In the same otherworldly room with familiar and beautiful stained glass panes, Archbishop Odella looked towards one of the statues that depicted a humanoid god in his marvelous glory.

The Archaic Church believed in human superiority so any deities they considered not to be even a little human were not worshiped.

A grey crystal necklace with a purplish accent and tint defied gravity as it floated near her head like a satellite, slightly pulsating a faint blue light.

It was a larger version of a communication bracelet meant for long range communication. It was enchanted by a void user to be able to bypass the Void Chasm.

One of her rare and wicked smiles spread across her charming face, "They're finally here your eminence..."

An extremely low and frightening male voice resounded throughout the room from the small crystal, "Hmmm, they're earlier than the prophecy stated... how are interactions with them so far?"

"Since all of our forces were ignorant of their powers and importance to the church, they acted hostile upon the first encounter. There were some deaths on the immortal's side but I'm sure we can pay them off once they revive."

"How confident are you in poaching them? Lumeria is a majorly populated continent even if it isn't the biggest out of them all, so there should be many immortals present there. Your task is of utmost importance for our future."

"There is no need to worry m'lord. As long as we find and offer some coins to silence those wronged immortals, I'm positive we can gain control of most, if not all of the immortals with our vast resources."

"Don't fail me... the cleansing awaits us all."

"Of course your Excellency Cardinal Hansen..."
