Chapter 28

They sailed last the ruined ship, thankfully without trouble. Hakai was considering fighting, or destroying their ship, but he shook his head. Mihawk was the goal here not some pirates that got cocky entering the grand line.

Hakai waited and waited until finally he arrived.

"You 2, don't do anything no matter what. Until the fight is over, stay put, is that clear?" Hakai told the 2 who were standing anxiously.

They nodded as Hakai turned to face the small boat that was heading towards their direction.

On both sides of the boat, there was a candle that had a green flame, and right at the middle of the boat was a man sitting down and eyeing Hakai with orange eyes.

Hakai unsheathed his sword, smiling. "Mihawk, I would like to request a duel."

Mihawk stared at him, analysing Hakai. He looked at how he stood, how he held his sword. This was all to see if he was even capable of defeating him.

"Hmm... Well you'll do. I need to kill some time anyway." Mihawk stood up and leapt up to the ship decks, taking out his sword, Yoru. He raised an eyebrow as he looked at Hakai's sword. "Where'd you get that sword..."

If a sword was enough to get Mihawk's curiousity then that sword was definitely not normal and being made by Hakai, it wasn't.

"That doesn't matter." Hakai used both his haki, coating his sword with haki and enhancing his senses with haki.

"Haki? Interesting..."

Hakai charged forward, channeling his expert knowledge of swordsmanship as he swung his sword.

Mihawk was surprised by the strength and speed of Hakai, but what impressed him the most was his technique. Normally, to get to Hakai's level, one would need to practically practice the way of the sword their whole life, so how could Hakai get this good yet Mihawk has never once heard of him.

Mihawk parried the sword strike causing a shockwave that split the sea. "What's your name?"

Smiling, Hakai gladly answered him as he swung his sword again, "Hakai, captain of the Dragon Pirates."

"Hakai... How old are you?" Mihawk asked, narrowly dodging his attack and countered as his sword aimed for Hakai's neck.

Hakai was a bit taken back by the question, but answered, "I'm 19."

He dodged the attack that was aiming for his neck and went into an aggressive attack, ducking down and thrusting his sword at Mihawk's chest.

Mihawk was shocked. Sure, he wasn't taking the fight seriously, but this man in front of him who was only 19 could keep up with him. Even he wasn't that good at 19. If he didn't take this seriously soon, he would definitely lose by how things are going.

Since he already swung his sword, Mihawk was forced to dodge, but he wasn't called the greatest swordsman alive for nothing.

Catching Hakai off guard, he slashed Hakai's back, leaving a big cut, or so he thought.

Right as Mihawk's blade was about to make contact with Hakai's back, Hakai coated his back with armament haki, making black scales appear on his back and deflect Mihawk's slash.

Mihawk raised his eyebrow backing away. From what had just happened, Hakai's haki was strong enough to take his attack and not even leave a small cut meaning 2 things, their haki was on par with each other or Hakai's haki was stronger and seeing what had just happened, it might just be the latter.

"It seems I'll have to take this seriously." Mihawk's entire aura changed as his eyes focused on Hakai.

---

Kaya and Makino watched from the side as the two clashed once more, causing loud shockwaves that could be heard all over the East Blue.

"Who is that guy?" Kaya asked. "He's strong enough to fight Hakai."

"I think I've heard of him once. Eyes like that of a hawk, and is considered the World's Greatest Swordsman Alive, Dracule Mihawk," Makino replied.

---

The fight continued for several hours, and yet there was not a scratch on either of them and they didn't look the least bit tired.

"I can keep going, but what about you, Mihawk?" Hakai smiled twirling his sword.

"Same," Mihawk replied. Truly a man of few words.

The two clashed and clashed. They made shockwaves that split the seas, and the clouds, but yet the ship was undamaged from their fight. This showed that the two had mastery of controlling their sword and strength since they had the capabilities of destroying ships, but during their fight, the ship stayed untouched.

Eventually though, all rights must end, whether it be a win, loss, or a draw, it'll end and it finally did.

Mihawk swung his sword, seeing an opening in Hakai's defense. "It seems you still have much to learn."

Hakai looked at all his options. He couldn't dodge, he was completely trapped, and he couldn't even deflect it with his sword. Even if he coated his chest with haki, the attack would still cut him since Haki could only do so much.

'No, no, no!'

Hakai watched the blade come at his chest in slow motion. Slowly, it came in contact with his chest, sending him flying onto the ship decks.

"You have lost, but I will stay at the top, waiting for you to surpass me. I can see it," Mihawk said, putting his sword away.

Hakai stayed on the ground, laying on his back as blood leaked out of the cut that Mihawk made.

"Lost? It's not over until I can't fight!"

Hakai stood up releasing a black aura that spread out and knocked out Makino and Kaya on the side.
