Wrong time or wrong timeline?

"No, it's a trick that I had created for fun." Lux lied and made his eye colour appear black using illusion magic. Lux had an instinctual feeling that his newly acquired golden eyes were nothing but trouble.

"I think, it may not be the timeline or the time we were supposed to travel to," Lux changed the topic and looked toward the North.

Trunks also focused his attention toward the direction Lux looked at and sensed two unfamiliar, high-intensity energies.

Trunks missed this small detail because he was preoccupied with the change in Lux's eyes. And, also the place where the time machine appeared was a wasteland, which was too common in Trunks' time and for that reason he subconsciously ignored small things.

"Let's go see where we are," Lux said.

Trunks rose from the ground and was about to fly toward the source of the energy signatures, when Lux reminded, "Hey, where are you flying to? Didn't I teach you the teleportation technique?"

"But Mr Lux, I am not proficient enough. I might die if I suddenly teleport to outer space or inside Earth's core," Trunks said in his defence.

"Haha," Lux burst into laughter as he recalled the first time Trunks used the teleportation technique and was teleported directly to Mars.

"Phew! sorry about that," Lux wiped his 'non-existent' tears and apologised. "No worry though, if anything goes wrong, I'll save you just like the first time."

"Okay, if you say so." Trunks hesitantly agreed.

It was partly Lux's fault that Trunks wasn't able to master the teleportation technique. As Lux himself had perfect Ki control, the techniques he created were also inclined toward the users with perfect Ki control. And, time was another factor in Trunks' inability to fully master the technique. Trunks would able to master it if he was given another year or two.

Trunks closed his eyes and focused all his attention on the two energy signatures that he sensed earlier.

After a short span of ten seconds, Trunks opened his eyes. His expression was similar to a person who, after a period of deep thinking with his eyes closed, found a solution to his/her problem.

Lux smiled and nodded at Trunks with approval. He knew that Trunks had probably worked out the kinks of the technique.

"Let's go." Lux put his right hand on Trunks' shoulder blade and said.

"Okay."

With that said, they vanished from the place.

The process was not silent though.

When they disappeared, it sounded like a loud slap, with clouds of dust being pulled toward the place where they disappeared from, as air rushed to fill the space.

...

The place they teleported was not very far. It was the same barren wasteland with sparse vegetations.

"It seems like you are a mile short," Lux commented looking ahead toward the North.

"Sorry, Mr Lux." Trunks apologised.

"No worries, you'll learn as you practice," Lux said. "Let's go. I found something interesting."

Lux took off and flew toward the source of the energy signature followed by Trunks who looked around and found that the place seemed familiar.

After few seconds of flight, they saw an ellipsoid metal contraption with supports that looked more like spider legs. On a closer look, it was obvious that the metal contraption was some sort of machine capable of flight, probably a spaceship.

"Isn't that Frieza's spaceship?" Trunks recognised the ship. He also realised that this was exactly the place and time, he was supposed to travel at first, but accidentally travelled to the time when Goku wasn't born and met Mr Lux.

The front of the spaceship opened just like the airstair of a plane. Two purple, humanoid creature, one hulking and the other with a small build walked out of the ship followed by a dozen or so humanoid creatures of varying colours and sizes.

Looking at the alien creatures, it was obvious that the giant, purple creature with the long tail was the leader and the identical one who had a small build standing by his side was the second in command.

"Mr Lux, I know where we have travelled to," Trunks spoke and landed on the ground. "It's the time I was supposed to travel at first."

"Is there a problem with the time machine?" muttered Trunks.

"I think the problem lies with me," Lux spoke after contemplating for a few moments.

Trunks first accidentally travelled to Lux's timeline, and now when returning with Lux to his timeline, Trunks again travelled to another timeline. All of them might not just be a coincidence.

"Oh ho ho ho, you have got some guts to ignore this emperor," The purple creature with a smaller build, chuckled and spoke coldly.

Lux glanced at the one who spoke with indifference and then said to Trunks, "You can test the result of your training with them."

"But they are too weak," Trunks voiced his opinion.

"Don't be arrogant," Lux rebuked Trunks over his overconfidence. "Just use your base form."

The aliens, especially the purple one who was the leader, heard every word of Trunks' and Lux's conversation.

"It seems like they don't know us. Should we teach them a lesson, father?" The smaller one spoke with disdain.

"Don't be so sure, Frieza." Trunks sneered.

"Ohh, you know me!" Frieza, the purple alien with a smaller build, was a little surprised.

"But, you still dare to look down on me." Frieza got angry as he realised they knowingly mocked him, but when he perceived the energy level of Lux and Trunks with his senses, he calmed down.

"Well, you two sure are arrogant little things. Fighting you isn't even worth my time," Frieza said with renewed aloofness and arrogance.

"Foot soldier!" Frieza called out.

"Sir." A green alien walked out from behind and greeted Frieza with fear and reverence.

"Vaporise this two little rodents," commanded Frieza.

The green alien walked arrogantly to the front.

"You don't stand a chance," Trunks declared.

"Did you forget what I just said?" Lux reprimanded Trunks. "Don't be arrogant."

"Remember, that underestimating an enemy, however small and insignificant they appear, is being cruel to yourself. Never drop your vigilance." Lux added.

"Enough, you two!" The green alien cried out and aimed his right bionic arm with an energy cannon fitted into it, at Trunks and fired an energy ball.

Trunks, who was just reprimanded for his arrogance, got annoyed. He deflected the energy ball heading toward him with the wave of his hand, and then before the green alien could react, Trunks appeared in front of him and fired an overpowered energy beam at his chest, vaporizing him out of existence.

Frieza and his father only lifted their eyebrows. The show of power was nothing compared to them.

"What are you soldiers waiting for?! Go kill that little prick," Frieza ordered the remaining goons.

The soldiers were scared by Trunks' show of power but recalling Frieza's wrath and wanton killings, they reluctantly marched toward Trunks.

"Trunks, don't let your emotions drive your actions," Lux commented from the side. "Annoyance, anger, hatred are all but a distraction. They cloud your judgement."

"Okay, Mr Lux."
