The Chill

Treasca shivered as she got up to look over the small plain room. It was white washed without windows and a cold wooden floor. There was a tiny privy that was all. The bare bed took up most of the space. Her teeth chattered she needed something to wear or she could die of exposure. The door was locked solidly and there was no keyhole she could see. She banged on it begging for help. Pausing she listened for any sound, but heard nothing. She decided to try to open the door with magic. Pressing her hands to it she pushed with her mind and body with all her might. The door fell open, and she fell on top of it with gasping. The hall was not any warmer than the room, but at least she wasn't locked in anymore. She ran until she hit a flight of stairs her bare feet making almost no noise on the floor. She paused at the stairs for several minutes trying to decide if she should go up or down. Finally she decided up, because the room she had been in felt like a holding cell. Once she hit a landing she paused listening for any movement. There where windows on this floor she looked out trying to recognize where she was. Water broke on huge piles of rocks that jutted out of the surf. The land was very green, but the fog and clouds gave everything a drab grey feeling. She was so into the view she didn't notice the Shade behind her until he whispered in her ear.

"Are you cold?" He asked lips brushing her ear. Treasca shrieked in suprise jumping away. She tried to calm her frantically pounding heart. The Shade smirked at her, and moved closer to her. He wrapped her in his arms pressing her to his body then wrapped his coat around her.

"I no longer feel the cold. I suppose I am careless forgetting you would be chilled after being wet." He rubbed her back soothingly. She wanted clothes more than anything. She was about to ask for some when he swept her up in his arms. He carried her as if she weighed nothing. The room he entered had a roaring fire in the hearth much to her relief. He sat her on the floor beside it like a small child leaving his coat wrapped around her. He sat in the rooms only chair looking down at her eyes blank. She looked away blushing, and raised her arms to the flames trying to get feeling back into her fingers. She glanced back where the Shade was sitting and nearly screamed again when his face was on inches away from hers.

"You know you really never speak to me." He grinned his teeth looked to perfect, and sharper than they should have been. When she didn't answer right away his hand snaked out grabbing her by the back of the neck bringing her so close all she could see where his eyes.

"I don't know what to say." She whimpered fear making her feel slightly ill.

"You could entertain me. You are a Traveler right don't you dance or sing." He asked eyes not leaving hers.

"May I have some clothes first?"She whispered eagerly. The Shade pressed his lips to hers. She could feel a grin spreading across his face as he growled one word.

"No"
