57 Pacify

Brenton dodged as Delyn as the Drake lunged for his face. The Drake pulled back serpentine neck ready to strike again. Brenton sighed he shifted seamlessly the large room now far to cramped with them both. He took Delyn gently by the back of the neck in a quick strike asserting dominance. Delyn whimpered eyes wide as he came back slowly to himself. Brenton let him go easing back into his human form as did Delyn.

"Master, I.." Delyn started to say shame overwhelming him.

"I nearly fell for that nasty trick myself, think nothing of it." Brenton said with a sigh. He dared not open the door again just yet he needed to think on how to break the spells first. Delyn shuffled from foot to foot as the silence filled the room. Finally Brenton turned and walked back up to the office. Delyn looked back at the door once more with a shudder.

Back in the office Brenton returned to the scroll that mentioned Shades. The book said they where the souls of the violently slain that had taken over a body of a strong creature. The more powerful the vessel the more powerful the Shade would be. It would be someone Brenton knew personally, and if it was targeting him so hard probably someone he had personally killed as well. The magic it had would not be only as strong as the vessel it possessed. Brenton was confident he would be stronger magically. He finally knew how to break its hold on the springs as well. He would have to burn it out like a blight. In a way that was exactly what it was.
