History (idk)

In the beginning... I dreamed of this world. Yes I am breaking the fourth wall here, but I don't even care. So. This story is essentially a dream of mine plus the Halo universe. Sooooo. Yeah. I'm gonna tell a bit about the Halo universe (mainly some history, hopefully not enough to spoil people, but don't expect it.), and then tell the basic back ground of my dream. Unlike my other story however, I will have a 'mini book' in this 'auxilary volume' that people have to scroll up to reach that tells some intro crap. Yeah I have no idea what I'm doing with my life, Author-idiot, out.

In the year 2517, humanity is attacked by the Covenant.

The covenant is an advanced collection of alien races, indoctrinated into unyielding loyalty and faith towards a religion centered around the 'Prometheans', which they view as gods. The prometheans were an advanced alien race, of which little is known (AN: I don't actually care how much is known, I'm not gonna bother to look this up.). This alien race was ravaged and nearly driven extinct (AN: I don't care if my information is a bit wrong here.) by an artificial plague called the Flood.

The Flood were a parasitic, grotesque race with only one purpose; to consume and destroy all life (AN: A lot like the zerg if you think about it, but I'm kinda sure the Flood might have come first???), stopped only when the Prometheans built Halo's, giant artificial ring worlds, to contain the Flood. These Halo's also had the ability to charge up an unknown and unnamed attack that is quite literally capable of ending all life in the galaxy. It is unknown just how far these Halo's go, but if even one were to successfully fire, all would fire, undoubtedly ending all life. The Covenant foolishly believed the Halo's to be the key to a form of transcendance or godhood that would make them unstoppable, and they would have foolishly fired the Halo's were it not for the fact that they required keys, and that most or all Halo's had Flood on them that, unknown to the Prometheans, acted as a security measure. The Flood can also evolve into what is called a 'Gravemind' after enough have accumulated in an area, creating a creature with all the knowledge the Flood have ever gained through genetic memory. This allows the Flood to learn and become more formidable, as well as communicate, bargain, and manipulate.

Humanity - and the Covenant - had discovered a fascinating realm called 'Slipspace', which defies physics and quite literally disable some rules of the universe, allowing for FTL, or Faster Than Light, travel. Through this, both factions came to inhabit multiple worlds, and this is what lead to the first fight. As stated at the beginning of this record, Humanity was attacked in the year 2517, on a planet called Reach. It was the start of a long and bloody war, which only even spread past Reach in the year 2552, upon which the Covenant glassed the planet, turning it into a barren wasteland, and killed most of the population on it. There was no mercy, and hardly if any communication attempts from their side. They simply appeared and began attacking ruthlessly. Reach was discovered after they placed a tracking device on a fleeing ship from a space battle, which allowed them to discover multiple Human colonies, before finding Reach.

The fall of Reach was important because of it's close location relative to Earth, as well as the fact that it had multiple UNSC, United Nations Space Command, Naval Intelligence offices, as well as secretive training sites for Spartans, elite, often orphaned, cybernetically and biologically enchanced, and well conditioned soldiers originally built to subdue rebellions, before being turned against the Covenant with promising results. Almost all of the Spartans alive were also killed on Reach. The most notable surviving Spartan was Petty Officer John-117, also known as Master Chief. Over a long period of time, he nearly singlehandedly ended the entire war, killed an unknown amount of Covenant of all species, and directly killed two of the three leaders of the Covenant, Regret and Mercy, although Mercy would have died to the Flood without Master Chief's interference. The last prophet was killed by Covenant rebels.

The Human-Covenant war lasted twenty eight years, with horrendous losses for Humanity, totaling up to about twenty three billion killed on Humanities side, and billions on the Covenant side. The exact number for the Covenant is unknown, other than it was likely less costly for them. Horrifyingly, the Flood burst out rapidly near the very end and almost consumed both factions, with the Flood successfully infecting the Covenant capital and nearly making it to Earth. Of the estimated ten billion Humans on Earth, only 120 million survived. Of the estimated 39 billion people alive, 23 billion have been confirmed dead, leaving a top amount of around 11 billion Humans remaining; this number has been reduced due to the fact that an unknown amount of Humanity died in the final battle. (AN: This is all information from the game itself, and now for me to expand on it and make the actual story :D)

After the war, both sides retreated to 'lick their wounds' and recover. In the year 2559, the Covenant returned. However, the Covenant group that approached appeared different. The Covenant made their way straight to Earth, stopping for nothing, staying in Slipspace the whole time. When they made it to Earth, they headed straight for the UNSC's main head quarters, settling down above it and sending down a transport. Only one. At this point the UNSC was rather confused, and became even more so when just a single transport approached. They held their fire, breathing as slowly and quietly as they could as they stared out the windows at the single Covenant dropship. It landed, for the first time ever recorded - Covenant ships never truly land, simply hovering in the air through levitation systems. -, and released four Covenant. Only four. Three were quickly identified as guards, while the fourth... was a never before seen rank. They were all Sanghelei, also known as Elites. One was in a strange, almost ceremonial appearing silver set of armour, two were in pristine white armour that almost glowed, and the last one was in blue robes, with ivy green patterns and gold borders. They approached, and while the first three were alert and armed, they did nothing. The fourth one in the robes simply walked forward, seemingly not caring if he was injured as long as he made it peacefully to the building. Master Chief had at this point arrived at the back entrance through a Pelican dropship, and was then shown the situation. He simply said "Orders?", upon which a high ranking official took him and a small group of marines down to intercept the Covenant.

They stepped outside, one of the marines shielding his eyes at the noon sun, pausing for a moment before marching forward, Master Chief in the lead. Suddenly, Master Chief stopped, causing everyone around him to pause in fear or confusion. They then noticed that the Covenant group had stopped. The robed Elite was simply giving Master Chief a good hard look, almost as if he was simply trying to memorize someone he had heard of but never met, one of the white clad one's had stepped back, clearly fearful, while the other white Elite was clearly agitated, and the silver one... The silver one gave what almost appeared to be a smile. Master Chief then strode forward, making both of the white Elites step back before he smacked the silver one on the shoulder. The marines and the official faintly heard some sort of conversation, before they heard loud laughter from both of them as Master Chief threw his head back, spare hand on his chest.

The rest of the UNSC group went up to the Covenant, a bit confused. The robed Elite upon seeing the official stepped forward and said "Are you a leader here?", which was answered a bit shakily with "Yes? Why? Are you officially warning us of a new war or something? Why are you here?" Which was answered with "The Covenant would like to create an official alliance with Humanity, in order to instill order and peace through both our civilizations." This statement was met with cheering and joy from the Human side, before the Covenant were invited in and an ambassador called forward to do the actual negotiating. It was later discovered that the silver Elite was the highest ranking warrior among the Covenant known simply as the 'Arbiter', and was a friend of Master Chief's, as they had fought multiple battles together both against the corrupt Covenant leadership and against the Flood. They were rather happy upon getting to get together again, and they had started sharing stories from recent times and from their past.

In the year 2559, on April thirteenth, at 15:24, Humanity and the Covenant officially made peace with each other. However, Humanities long hardships were far from over.
