Today's Lesson: Matthew 23

* A Warning Against Hypocrisy

1. List down the hypocrisy of the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. [23:3-7]

answer: do not do what they do. They do not practice what the preach, the tie up heavy loads on men's shoulder, but do not move them.

2. In 23:8-10, Jesus told them not to call anyone rabbi, father or teacher. Why? What does Jesus mean?

Answer: there is only one Master, they are all brothers, there is only One Father in heaven.

* Seven Woes on the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees

1. List down the seven woes Jesus proclaimed on the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees.

Answer: 1. I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes and some of them ye shall kill. 2. Crucify 3. Some of them ye scourge in your synagogues 4. And persecute them from city to city 5. The blood shed upon the earth from the blood of Righteous Abel. 6. And the blood of Zacharias. 7. All this things shall come upon generation.

2. Explain 23:34-36 in your own words.

Answer: I send into you prophets; Jesus doubtless refer here to the apostle & other teacher of religion. Prophets, wise men & scribes were the name by which the teacher of religion were known among the Jews & he therefore used the same term when speaking of the messenger which he would send. 'I send' has the force of the future, I "will" send.
