CHAPTER 14 “I Trust you”
Yuan Mendez' POV
I feel like I should talk to Ivy after the fight we had earlier when I came into her office, she was doing something…
"Ivy…"
"Yuan…"
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have called you unreasonable…"
"Yeah… you really shouldn't have and come read this as to why I wanted you to stay away from her…"
"What's this?"
I looked at Ivy's computer monitor and saw the investigation of the prosecutor's office regarding my brother's death and my father's accident.
I clicked on a video file…
"Are everything set for tomorrow? There shouldn't be any evidences of a foul play you get me?"
I know this voice…
"It was a deleted clip from your Sister In-Law's black box…"
"b-but" I don't know if I should believe this…
"If you don't believe it. There are retrieved text messages next to that file"
I opened it… then I saw how horrible Portia was. Ivy was right all along she was trying to seduce me…
"The prosecutor's office will deliver the arrest warrant tomorrow and arrest her right then."
"I- I couldn't believe…"
"If you're done you may leave, I'm going home…"
I spaced out for a while… I didn't notice she left the office…
I should have trusted Ivy; I should have sided with her. I think she's really mad at me for giving her less priority… like who wouldn't right? How am I going to make it up to her?
Like what Ivy said the prosecutors and the police came to the Mendez residence today and they arrested her… Everything went out to the public she was even removed by her parents of their family register. She deserves it!! My brother would have been alive if it wasn't because of that wicked woman.
After everything that has happened, I kept on texting and calling Ivy, but she doesn't pick up the phone.
Then I came across with Ivan at a coffee shop where I had my meeting with an investor. He just came in and my meeting just finished just in time. It crushes my pride but…
"Ivan…"
"Oh! Yuan It's been a while…"
"Yeah… ummm I just wanted to ask"
"Yeah go ahead…"
"Do you often meet Ivy?"
"Yeah… Actually, I'm on my way to her office, we're working with the cosmetics distribution… Why?"
"She hasn't talked to me since… I bet she told you…"
��Yeah… Yuan I'm going to tell you this because Yin is very important to me, ever since her mother left them, she had trust issues that's why if you've gained her trust never ever lose it, it's difficult to earn it back. Yin returns the favor of being trustworthy by being one herself, she wants that person to trust her too, if not, she would feel disappointed…"
"That's what she's probably feeling right now…"
"Another thing is… Yin is the type of person that is hard to please. So, if you'll just stay there and do nothing, she'll probably forget the fact that she's in a relationship with you. She'll cut ties if she feels she's unwanted…"
He looked at his phone and Ivy was calling him…
"Ah! Yuan excuse me… I'm late with our appointment…"
I just nodded…
After thinking about it over and over I really should gather my act and fix this…
I went to Ivy's office with flowers and chocolates in my hands…
"Sir Yuan"
"Hi Clair… Is Ivy around?"
"She's having a meeting with sir Ivan at the conference room, they'll be done soon…"
"I'll wait here…"
"Do you want something to drink sir?"
"I'm fine…"
"You haven't visited Miss Ivy for a while…"
"Yeah… Some complications…"
"Oh! they're already done…"
I saw Ivan and Ivy came out of the conference laughing while talking… I wish she would also show those smile and laughter whenever she's with me…
She saw me and that smile faded in an instant…
"I'll be at your office Yin…" Ivan said
"Okay…"
"Ivy let's talk…"
"Let's talk at the rooftop…"
I followed her, but she wasn't talking even a little. I wanted to break the ice.
"Oh! I didn't know you had the rooftop renovated and put a garden…"
"How would you know if all you texted me was to cancel our dates…"
That hit me. I was too occupied with several things… I was a bit unfair because Ivy's running a larger company than I do but she always has her time for me, while I didn't.
She went to a bench and sat there…
"You wanted to tell me something? I'm quite busy these days…" she asked me in a cold tone just like how she talked to me when we weren't close yet.
I handed her the flowers and chocolates I brought, but she didn't take it so I laid them next to her where she was sitting…
"Ivy I'm sorry, I should have given you more of my time, I should have trusted you. Well I do trust you…"
She cut me off…
"Just not enough for you to listen to my plead to stay away from her? I get it! You know her longer than you knew me… I just thought you would listen to me. The fact that I'm your girlfriend." she said in a sarcastic way…
"No that's not it… Ivy I'm really sorry…"
"I don't know, Yuan. I'm preoccupied these past few days so if you please excuse me…"
"I'll make it up to you Ivy…"
But she left me without talking back, she became cold once again.
I wanted to make it up to her so I constantly went to her office with flowers and lunch boxes, sometimes I would bring coffee or sweets. If she stays out in the office late, I would patiently wait for her and drop her home, sometimes I do my work while on her office. Most of the time she ignores me. But after a while she began to open up again and the mood lit up.
"Yuan, I have a hearing in the regional court, just go home…" of course with a cold tone, not because she opened up again means she'll talk to me sweetly. All I meant when she opened up is that she talks to me more, I just can't bring the emotions back. She took her coat and some files and went outside so I followed her
"I'll come with you, If it's okay?"
She stared at me…
"Then what are you gonna do there?"
"Just watch you win the case?"
"I'll purposely lose this case…"
She'll what?
"W-what?!" The elevator door opened…
"My client was a friend of my father so I couldn't-not accept the case, I would be glad to fight for this if I didn't find out some dirty stuffs…"
"And this rightful lawyer can't stand it so she gave me some tips… by the way hello! I'm Ethan Mariano."
A guy appeared in front of us which seems to be waiting in the lobby for a while.
"Yuan, this is Prosecutor Ethan Mariano, my batchmate. Ethan, this is Yuan, Chairman of Mendez Group of companies…" she didn't tell him I was her boyfriend
"Oh! nice to meet you!" the guy said
"Does the client know that you're acquainted with me?"
They talked to each other while I'm at the side, they seemed close, I thought Ivan was the only guy lurking around her…
"Most likely… I'll still be doing my part so you triple your effort to win this case…"
"Of course! This will be the first that you'll lose a case to me…" he smiled at her sweetly
Hey!! The boyfriend is here!!! WTH!! I wanted to kick the guy but of course I didn't… Ivy will be my foe if that happens.
"Are you really coming with me?"
"Yuan!!" oh she's talking to me…
"Hmm?"
"Are you sure your coming?"
"Of course…"
"Ethan, I'm sorry I should have told you that you don't have to pick me up before you arrived here… He suddenly wants to come with me soooo…"
"Naaaah!! It's fine… I insisted anyway" He insisted what? To pick my girl so they'll arrived at the court together? Ha!! this guy is something!
"Anyway thanks, let's meet at Court"
"Yeah!! Good luck attorney…"
"You need it more than I do…" She's really cool…
"Hahahaha! See ya!!"
"Let's go?" I asked her
"Yeah…"
I drove her to the court and tagged along. She has to meet her client so I went to the Court Room where their Hearing will be held. In about half an hour they started.
Ivy has given her opening statement as well as the prosecutor. They're indeed both good! But of course! Ivy stand out more. While they haven't started earlier, I looked up the guy's profile he was a cum laude alongside Ivy, they were the only ones with Latin honor and they were both in the same review center for the bar exam.
They've been throwing evidences and facts at each other…Later, the court had a recess then I looked at Ivy… She was looking at the prosecutor with her arms crossed as if she's telling him something… The prosecutor was looking at Ivy and he smirked before he looked back at the files… Eventually, the Judge returned and the resumed.
When they continued the two were throwing Evidences and alibis, I guess the real score has started even though Ivy was able to counter some evidences earlier. Prosecutor Ethan has been throwing new and strong evidences, the client was also shocked and Ivy pretends as if she doesn't know by asking pretentiously and discussing about it.
She lost the case and the prosecutor won. Her client was sentenced with 20-years imprisonment.
"Ivy… You did well…" I said as I gave her- her bag she told me to hold…
"Thank you, Yuan…" she smiled, did she just smile at me? My heart was beating fast…
"It's sad you lost the case attorney Lee"
"The prosecutor's evidences were solid and we were caught red handed…" they shook hands
"I'll get going!"
"We'll be leaving too, prosecutor Ethan…"
If I were to say something, that is; Ivy could be an actress she's too good at it…
"Do you want to grab some dinner?" I asked…
"That would be good"
We left the court and went to a restaurant…
"The food will be served within 20 minutes…" the waiter said
"Thank you…" we both said in unison
"Ivy, would you mind if I ask you a question?"
"No… Go ahead, you can ask…"
"Why didn't you just plead for guilty?"
"When I found out about the dirty works he has been doing. I asked him to come to the office and thrown a bait I revealed one dirty job he did and he denied it, if he admitted to it I would have asked him to plead guilty so he'll receive a lower sentence but he told me we should bury it and it should not be caught and said to claim that he's not guilty…"
She stopped
"That's why when the prosecutor threw the same thing I threw as a bait I did my best to defend him from it, but I tipped the prosecutor even better things… They obtained some evidences, strong and solid ones. That's how he got caught. In the future he won't be able to hunt me with his gang of syndicate because he knew I defended him well… I actually won this battle"
So that's what she meant she "Couldn't Not Accept the case" because if she won't, she'll be threatened by the Man's bad guys… She did a smart move… I'm actually afraid that she's just too tactical and smart for me, making me undeserving for her.
