7 Casual Coffee

"What time is it?" Niki yawns. She had spent what felt like an eternity in the ER, only to be fed blood thinners and pain killers for breakfast. If the jet lag and lack of sleep wasn't enough, the pain pills were sure to do the trick soon enough.

Damian checks his watch, "Nine?! No wonder we were the only ones in pajamas when we left!" The ute changes its course by taking a hard right - in the opposite direction of home.

So, now that its morning and none of us have the energy to do dishes; Whos up for Cup&Co? Damian suggests.

"You just don't want to do dishes because its your day!" Lisa exasperates.

"Yeah, well, we've been up since what? One AM? Do you really feel like cooking?"

"...Fine, but you're not ordering it again." Lisa demands.

Niki wonders what makes that 'it' so bad to order?

"I will make no such promise!" Damian proceeds, "So were agreed, then? Breakfast at Cup&Co, nap, then Zuri's for lunch!" Damian declares as he takes yet another turn.

"Zuri's?" Niki quips, perking up somewhat, "When were you planning on telling me? I can't wait to see her!"

"Damian! We cant go to a cafe like this!" Lisa realizes.

"Why not?"

"Were still in PJs! They might not even let us in!"

****

"This is..." Lisa has no words.

"Embarrassing?" Damian offers, "I wouldnt say that."

"They're staring at us!"

"I don't see the problem." Niki states. It takes the other two a good couple seconds to realize how absurd her statement was. Of course she can't see it!

Niki also doesn't see the heads turning as her pajama-clad friends burst out laughing, but she knows they are, and she's proud of it.

"Are you ready to order?" The barista interrupts the strange group. She fails to overlook her customers attire and her usual friendly 'servers smile' is somewhat strained.

"Yes," Damian leans back, "I'll have what I always do, and..."

"The Simones Toastie for me, thanks." Lisa smiles, then falters when she realizes Niki had no chance to choose anything.

The barista reminds herself that these are regular customers, and usually well-behaved; (not counting the guys ir-regular orders.) She wonders what brought about this strangeness and if it has anything to do with the new face?

"I'll have what she's having." Niki decides. She's not really one to have a menu read out to her, so she usually goes with recommendations or whatever someone else is ordering.

Smart, Lisa concludes. Her heart leapt there for a second. Maybe Niki is more alright than she thought? Either way it might take some time to get used to...
