Thunderbolt! Oh I mean, Quick Attack!

'Are you kidding me right now?!' I thought to myself as I vigilantly observed the large one-meter ink-green snake slithering around and hissing at me.

Looking at the color of the snake and recalling what the system said, I immediately recognized its identity.

'This is the Datura Snake! Tang San's first spirit ring!'

Without hesitation, the Datura Snake lunged at me at an extraordinary speed.

Startled, I quickly dodged away and ran, frantically trying to recall details about the Datura Snake.

Think! Think! What do I know about the Datura Snake besides it being Tang San's first spirit ring?!

If I remember correctly... Tang San and his master once encountered a 400-year-old Datura Snake. It's highly aggressive, and its venom is extremely potent, even among poison attribute spirit beasts!

As I ran, I could hear hissing behind me, and suddenly I heard a whooshing sound. Without thinking, I applied pressure to my paws and forcefully dodged to the right.

Right after I did that, the Datura Snake lunged at the position I was just at, its mouth wide open, ready to bite me to death.

Shuddering instinctively, I knew I would have died if I hadn't dodged right after hearing the whooshing sound!

Perhaps furious that a weak prey kept dodging its lunges, the Datura Snake hissed and coiled itself up, preparing to lunge forth.

Feeling exhausted from the chase, I felt hopeless when I saw that the Datura Snake wasn't even a bit tired.

It's hopeless...even if I dodge this, it will keep lunging at me until I'm exhausted...

After it finished coiling up, it immediately propelled its 1-meter-long body, lunging at an even faster speed than before.

...Wait?! Isn't this Datura Snake much smaller than the one in the novel?! If I remember correctly, the novel said that the Datura Snake grows one meter for every 100 years of cultivation!

This Datura Snake is only 1 meter long, meaning it's around 100 years old! That means I still have hope!

Having this thought, my mind brightened up, adrenaline rushed through my bloodstream, and an endless amount of strength seemed to flow into my body.

Without hesitation, I gathered strength in my paw foots and boldly rushed at the Datura Snake, veering to the right, narrowly dodging its lunge.

Turning around to the left, I looked at the back of the Datura Snake as my brain frantically thought of what to do.

Now what to do?! Tackle it with my body? Nope, its scale is too tough. Bite it? Nope, its scale is too tough again!

Trying to come up with a solution, suddenly the system's voice sounded once again.

Hearing that, I suddenly remembered; I have the almighty system to help me!

'System! What do you mean by that, and how do I do that?'

[It is as you think, the Pokemon moves from the anime and game. Every Pokemon has DNA that contains moves inside of it. That is why Pokemon can automatically learn moves when they level up. To use it, you need to draw upon the power in your DNA and use it. Of course, knowing what move you want to use helps.]

Hearing that, I quickly understood what to do. Calming myself down, I tried to feel the inside of my body. As I did, I sensed a mysterious power hidden deep within me.

I instinctively knew this is what the system was talking about. So I tried drawing upon the power in my DNA. Feeling that it was a success, I opened my eyes and shouted both verbally and mentally.

"Pikachu!" (Thunderbolt!)

But embarrassingly, nothing came out. Not even a spark. The Datura Snake, which had already recovered from the lunge, hissed and tried to bite me again.

I quickly dodged backward and, embarrassed by my failure to use a move, I questioned the system.

'System! What's going on?!'

[Did you forget? You are Level 5, and thus not high level enough to use Thunderbolt.]

As I landed on the ground, I ran to a nearby tree, climbed up near the top, and turned myself around. I kicked the tree behind me as I moved around between trees, confusing the Datura Snake.

'Okay! I admit I got too excited! But what moveset can I use at my current level?!'

Without saying much, a small blue profile appeared in front of me, highlighting the moves I could use.

'I see, thanks system!'

Knowing what to do, I landed on a nearby big sturdy branch, turned around, facing the Datura Snake, which lunged at me with its mouth wide open and its stomach exposed.

Preparing myself, I pounced forth, internally calling upon the power within my DNA, this time knowing what to do.

'Quick Attack!'

Suddenly, I became blindingly fast, too fast to see, and headbutted right at the Datura Snake's stomach.

The Datura Snake hunched forward, almost retching, as it crashed into the ground, seemingly unconscious.

'Nice! I didn't know moves are so strong!'

But my celebration didn't last long, as soon after, the Datura Snake slowly rose up, this time full of seething, monstrous, bloodthirsty killing intent in its enraged eye.

Oh... that's not good....

Losing all sense of reasoning, it hissed loudly and moved forth at a speed faster than before, almost reaching the same speed as Quick Attack.

'Oh, crap! Quick Attack!'

Using Quick Attack once again, but this time, not to attack, but to dodge. Reappearing once again nearby, I looked at the enraged Datura Snake.

This is not good. I can tell using moves drains my stamina a lot, and judging from how much stamina I have left, I can only use it once or twice.

I need to finish this decisively!

Tackle? Can't do much as evidenced from Quick Attack.

Thunder Shock? Nope, ineffective since its scale are too tough.

Tail Whip??? Datura Snake will kill me first, and besides, I'd rather die than do such an embarrassing action!

Thunder Wave? Maybe, but it can't deal any damage.

What to do?! If I were that Pikachu from the anime, what would I do?

Remembering Pikachu from the anime, I suddenly had a thought.
