Douluo Dalu: Martial Path

In the world of Douluo Dalu, being a Soul Master is an occupation. A title above normal mortals. Yet, despite the power and numerous other abilities one would gain as they thread the path of a Spirit Master, they were no different from a normal mortal. They would still die to natural causes and a spirit master didn't have a longer lifespan than a mortal, except when they reach the limits of a spirit master but they could only live by twice or thrice the lifespan of a mortal still. Just what was good being a spirit master? Especially if one can easily kill them by the hands of either technology or natural causes? They weren't much different from a mortal. That was what Feng Qin had come to a conclusion as he turned twelve, six years after awakening an unknown trash Martial Spirit. But, on a fateful day, one single lucky moment as he had just survive from a life and death situation, changed his life forever. ... AN: Hey it's yo boi, FroztDouluo back with another Douluo Dalu fanfic! And this time, it's a concept that I've taken inspirations from Martial World(just read the story since it's a prequel to True Martial World, my favorite story and one I'm hoping to make a fanfic of someday), True Martial World, Tales of Demons and Gods, God of Slaughter, etc. I really hope I can make this story great and won't eventually turn me off. Cause my last few stories were great in plotlines at the start but it had eventually gone downhill due to several reasons.(Mainly laziness, writer's block, and school.) So, I'm going to clarify a few things and reveal a couple spoilers. One, there will be some oc other than the mc in this story. Most of them would come from other stories that I had previously mentioned or you guys can help me create some of them through comments. Two, I prioritize pa-treon more than here so if you notice me being late to update than it must mean I was either busy writing more chapters in pa-treon or I'm resting from the exhaustion of it. Three, the update schedule is 2-3 chapters a week with at least 1k words. Chapters are uploaded in Wednesday and Friday/Saturday(UTC +8, Philippine time). Four, I will try to reply to most of the comments I see but don't count much, cause I don't really reply very well because I just don't know what to write back. I just hope it'll get to a hundred, or two, chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash.

Chapter 51: Close Frost

Layers of frost rapidly covered most of the room, freezing white mist and long ice cold icicles started to form around Mei Lin's surroundings. Her eyes had an icy glint as she stared, unamused, at the defiant looking Feng Qin.

Although Feng Qin's flames were hot and had advanced to the second level of the Concept of Fire, having absorbed a certain amount of the Destruction Aura Cain had when he used his Flame King's Regalia reflective ability, it wasn't enough to fight against the unbelievable cold temperature Mei Lin was releasing.

'Unbelievable. Just who is this that's impersonating Mei Lin or possessing her body? This pressure and chill is easily suppressing my fire with a fraction of the destruction attribute. 3rd level Concept of Ice?' he thought, cold sweat rolling down the side of his temple. If his guess was correct, then he was screwed.

Every level of Concepts may seem like a mere difference between numbers from 1 to 10, but just like how an average Spirit Scholar couldn't defeat a Spirit Grandmaster, the disparity between levels grows exponentially. The difference between the 2nd and 3rd level was like comparing a matchstick's flame to a bonfire's roar.

"You dare to make a mockery out of this Queen?!" Mei Lin ground out between her teeth, her eyes shooting daggers at Feng Qin, who simply looked back at her, keeping up his defensive stance.

A layer of frost formed on the floor beneath her feet as her anger increased, and frosty mist filled the surrounding air—an indication of her temperature powers. If this kept up, Feng Qin feared the entire room would soon be turned into a snowfield.

"I...w-was just speaking my mind," Feng Qin stuttered, his voice barely carrying over the sound of the frost hardening over everything around them. "I like a girl who's caring, warm, and gentle... and... you're nothing like that... heh. Sorry."

His words seemed to stoke Mei Lin's anger even more. A part of him wondered why he was choosing this time to be honest about his feelings, but what could he do? It just slipped out.

Though he said those words of what he wants in a girl, if he had to say about having a type... Zhu Zhuqing's face flashed in his mind.

There was just something about an aloof girl with long black hair and a curvy body, that even after seeing so many girls through his journey here in Star Luo Empire, just can't shake the image of her from his mind.

Even Long Yuyin, a girl with equal beauty and stronger cultivation than Zhu Zhuqing that had spent a longer time with him, couldn't make him forget about the latter.

'...Huh. I got a crush on her.' He realized, blinking his eyes. Though he didn't really make a huge reaction from the realization, as he understood simultaneously it was just some puppy love and not like that kind of love that would last forever like his parents and some expert couples.

As he had said to her before to get her to hang out with him, they were friends. Nothing more, nothing less.

A fleeting feeling that sprouted from finding someone colorful, ironic considering her color them, in his former mediocre life.

Also, she already has a fiance that was arranged by both powerful families. That just sounds troublesome and not worth the potential drama.

'... I wonder if we'll meet again.' He thought, a small smile on his face. The short time they spent together in a quiet library flashed in his mind.

Those expressions flashing across his face didn't escape Mei Lin's ice-cold gaze.

"... I wanted to be polite and civil, because I wanted to start a partnership between us. I could ignore a slight or two, due to your young age." Mei Lin said, her voice filled with disdain. "But to say that I am inferior, even if this isn't my true body, is not only insulting the original owner of this body but I as well!"

"... You were being polite?" Feng Qin replied, honestly surprised.

"... It looks as if you need to learn your place, boy." She moved forward suddenly, a swift blur of motion, and suddenly she was in front of him, the frosty aura around her making it difficult for him to breathe.

Enveloped in Mei Lin's aura, Feng Qin felt a chill seep into his bones—the kind that couldn't be detected by touch.

He tried to circulate his Heavenly Vast Universe Art, an attempt to combat the frost-induced by Mei Lin. Fiery spirit power undulations exuded from his body as it tries to fight off the spirit power of the Concept of Ice that was invading his body. But alas, his spirit power gradually turned frozen in their place by the biting cold.

'Crap! Just who the hell is she?! Her Ice energy is powerful enough to freeze energy and suppress me in a split second. I can't circulate any spirit power...'

Panic slithered into his heart as Mei Lin's cold grip wrapped around his throat. Despite being just in her mid-teens, her power was beyond terrifying and unimaginable—way beyond his normal understanding.

She was the embodiment of cold—probably the coldest and cruelest existence he had ever encountered. Even the usually calm and critical Feng Qin couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the raw energy radiating from her.

It wasn't just his body and spirit power being frozen over, but his mind as well. Slowing his reaction time and comprehensive capabilities.

This level of power was to be expected from the reincarnated Ice Witch Douluo, former top powerhouse of the entire continent that was just a couple steps away from achieving Godhood and reach unbelievable enlightenment over advanced understanding of the Law of Ice due to her previous life's rare spirit, the Ancient Demon Dragon.

Not only was it a true dragon spirit, but one that had the ultimate ice attribute! An ultimate attribute! Just as how spirit masters have a hierarchy of cultivation ranks, so does spirits, spirit beasts and in this case, the elements. Most would classify them as low, medium, and high grade ranks.

But the ultimate attribute is the one true supreme ruler over any other attributes. Even if, for example, the gap between the spirit masters were two rings to five rings, the one with two-rings has the ultimate attribute of fire while the other has a high-grade fire, the one with the ultimate attribute would always win, 10 out of 10.

For all ice obeys and all normal flames

In Mei Lin's, or Xian Qinxin's case, she had absolute suppression over ice and fire. Even someone with a higher cultivation than her would end up dead if they underestimate her.

Unfortunately however, she could only imitate a fraction of the ultimate ice since she was in a different body and using a different spirit with a medium grade level affinity towards Ice. Even so, her current level of Ice Concept comprehension was beyond any spirit master with an ice-type spirit at six-rings!

In martial world context, she's at Sixth level Ice Concept, Perpetual Yin Ice. Four whole levels above Feng Qin's Concept of Fire!

He is screwed.

Mei Lin narrowed her eyes, her grip tightened around his throat; her eyes bore into his with an intensity that froze him colder than her powers.

Her face was close. Too close... and for a moment, Feng Qin could see something flickering in those icy blue eyes—was it amusement and playfulness?

'Oh you bitch...' Feng Qin grounded his teeth, even if he's feeling his mind slipping away into cold darkness, he will not bend to this girl's will! His pride and dignity refused to!

'I have seen thousands of years of a lifetime, though fragmented, filled mostly with despair, survival, fighting, and more fighting to the doors of death. Even in my own life I had almost lost it a couple of times, you think I'm fucking scared of you?' Feng Qin defiantly stared at her.

"Well? Anything to say?" Mei Lin said with a teasing tone, her lips quirked up.

"Fuck... you..." Feng Qin managed to spat out, his face now turning blue and covered in a layer of ice. Crystals forming on his eyebrows. Yet, he continued to stare her down.

They stared at each other, stiff cold silence permeated the room.

"... How boring." All of a sudden, she turned her head, with a snort, and uncurled her hand holding Feng Qin's throat.

Feng Qin slumped onto the floor, gasping for air and shivering violently as he tried to thaw out his frozen limbs. He gritted his teeth, his eyes constricting as intense killing intent burst out of his body and started to take on a dark-red aura covering his body.

'Such thick death energy... Deathgod domain? No, it's too unstable and

Mei Lin walked away from him, unafraid that he might attack, her steps leaving behind a trail of frost and crystals on the ground. She turned her back towards him as she spoke.

"Remember this, boy. I had only come here out of a curiosity of your power but it seems like I was mistaken. But so there wouldn't be any hard feelings and we become blood enemies, here's some advice. Your fire core is just a mere imitation of a real one, or a seedling at best, it might work well right now for you but come the day when you create a real soul core and something might... go boom. If I were you, I would either find a fire-type Immortal Herb or seek help from an expert fire-type Soul Sage."

"But if you're still unsatisfied, there's an Instant Spirit Pill together with your Dragon Breaking Pill in the drawer by your bed. Kinda confused? Well, the top three are decided by the competitors' combat capabilities. You performed the best so you got first place, I got second and Long Yuyin got third. I won't explain how that happened, ask your sex slave."

"Further confused about my actions? You have great potential, boy. Most would want to kill you after humiliating you like this because it would come bite them in the ass later on, but I might need your help in the future. So treat this as a humbling experience, there are people much stronger than you that aren't as merciful as I. But if you ever dare to cross me again, I won't be as lenient as I was today." With that, she turned to leave the room, the chill in the air gradually disappearing with her.

"W-Wait! Who are you? What have you done to the original Mei Lin?!" Feng Qin said through grinding teeth as he tried moving his body in an effort to stop her, but his body refused to and so did Mei Lin as she closed the door.

Bang! The icicles that formed on the ceiling then fell onto the ground.

"... Bitch."

Feng Qin spat as his body fell backwards with a heavy thud and laid on the icy ground, his mind still reeling from the encounter with Mei Lin. He couldn't believe the immense power she possessed, and he didn't know whether to be terrified or in awe.

But one thing was for sure, he needed to get stronger as much as he could. Or else, he might not be as lucky next time.

"... Wait a minute. I'm first place?"
