12 Chapter 12: Leaving Home

The next day after Rai is ready to leave, he wait by the door to see what Grandpa Homura will give him.
"Rai" Grandpa Homura said to grab Rai's attention. He turn to look and saw Grandpa Homura carrying what look like a cross between a sword, a machete and a katana.

"This is was my weapon when I was a traveling martial artist. It have serve me well over the years. It is still really durable and sharp. Your blade is getting too small for you size so I want you to have this." Grandpa Homura said as he handed the hilt of the blade to Rai.
"Isn't this suppose to be important to you Grandpa?" Rai ask
"It is, but a blade is meant to be use and I won't have much use for it anymore. Even if it can't compare to the blade you can get later as you travel the road of a spirit master. It's still strong enough to serve you at the beginning of your journey." Grandpa Homura told him seriously.
Rai look at Grandpa Homura for a moment before he bow and said "Thank you grandpa. I'll use it to the best of my ability." Grandpa Homura then laugh as told Rai that he know Rai will treat it well.
After that short exchange Rai says his good bye and started on his journey. As he left he kept thinking 'Why do I feel like there is something important that I forgot?'

Before Rai leave, he found out that his small town is just right outside the edge of the Balak Kingdom. Which explain why Seika can go to Nuoding Academy. Rai decided to go between Balak City and Silver City then travel down the edge of Jialing Pass to go toward Suotuo City where Shrek Academy is at. On the way he would look for a suitable ring and practice fighting against bandits/spirit beast.
As Rai was about halfway to the Jialing Pass, he spotted a spirit beast in the distance. Quickly hiding he think 'observe'.

As Rai was looking at the description he thought 'Who ever is writing these description need to do a better job. Still that will be a good first ring for my Raiju spirit.' Rai then continue to observe the mantis, sneaking closer, and waiting for a chance to strike.
Of course this isn't the first time Rai ran into a spirit beast or bandit on this journey. He tried his hardest not to kill any of the spirit beast and bandit he come across. He didn't want to kill the spirit beast because they can still grow and become spirit rings for other while he didn't want to kill the bandit because he never killed anyone before.
That still doesn't mean he haven't kill anyone on the trip. Whether its on accident or in a life and death battle, Rai did have to take a few life. He console himself by saying that they are bandits and he shouldn't feel bad for taking their life. It works, but he still have nightmare about it sometime, though its getting less and less.
Rai snap out of his thought as he saw the mantis looking toward him. Knowing that he lost the opportunity to ambush the mantis. Rai summon both his spirits as he slowly coated his blade with lightning while thinking 'Having that ring will make the process of giving my blade lighting power a lot better and faster. Plus it will make my blade sharper too.'
Rai rush toward the mantis. The mantis seeing this raise its blade like arm to slice at Rai. Rai responded quickly by activating his first two rings, Agility and Strength Boost, boosting his speed and strength by 50% surprising the mantis as Rai dodge the blade arm. He then jump past the mantis while using his blade to slice off the mantis head ending the battle as quickly as it begin.
'I gotten a lot better since I fought that wolf.' Rai thought as he make his was toward the spirit ring that just appear. Looking around and seeing no one, Rai took the ring, hide in a bush and start absorbing his newly acquire ring into his Raiju spirit. It didn't take long before Rai completely absorb the ring.
Ever since Rai started training in the Spirit Ascension manual and reach level 30, Rai feel that he could have absorb a 10,000 years old ring without any problem. Of course absorbing a 10,000 years old ring and finding/killing a 10,000 years old beast is a completely different matter.
With his power before Rai was sure he can't beat a 10,000 years old beast. But now that he have a way to make his attack more powerful, using the Lightning Blade skill and boost together, he was sure that he can beat a physically weaker 10,000 years old beat in close combat. He just have to find one first.

By now it been a year since Rai left home. He finally reach the edge of Jialing Pass. On the way here Rai have been focusing on aging his Lightning Blade skill and finally manage to make it pass the 10,000 years mark. He focus on Lightning Blade because that is his only skill that will let him beat opponent with higher level then himself. The other two skill will only let him hurt higher level opponent and not beat them.
As Rai made makes his way around Jialing Pass toward Suotuo City, he finally saw another spirit beast that caught his interest at the mouth of a small cave. 'observe' Rai thought

'Sorry lost spirit beast, but you are going to become my next spirit ring.' Rai thought as he draw his blade and slowly make his way toward the beast. Since the beast is young and haven't been separate from its parent for too long, it doesn't have an as good sense of danger as other beast. This allow Rai to sneak up behind it and stab its neck through the gap on it neck armor quickly killing it before it can react.
Rai then check the cave to see if there is any danger in there. He found that the cave doesn't seem to have any spirit beast living in it so he quickly drag the beast with the ring inside, cover the entrance of the cave and start absorbing the third ring for is Battle Suit.
After Rai is done, he look at his hand and thought 'observe'.
