Chapter 62: Combat Training

Mu Xi entered the classroom and walked towards the students.

They weren't confused by this, as they heard that there was a training session added in class five, which anyone can join as long as they have the necessary requirements.

They all followed Wu Zhangkong's instructions and they then stood by the side.

Wu Zhangkong then called out for Tang Wulin and Xie Xie to come to him, and started scolding them for the reckless one-sided battle in the Class Promotion Tournament against Xiu Ye.

It's one thing to charge towards an enemy with a plan and bravery, its a different thing entirely if there was no plan at all.

Xiu Ye watched as Tang Wulin and Xie Xie looked down in shame with an indifferent expression. They both needed this lesson to be drilled into their mind right now than later on, when they encounter a similar situation.

"Xiu Ye, come here." Wu Zhangkong said, as both Tang Wulin and Xie Xie returned to the sidelines with slumped shoulders.

Xiu Ye nodded walked towards Wu Zhangkong with large strides. His eyes widened as he immediately swayed his body to the right, dodging the right long leg of Wu Zhangkong, without any hesitation, he moved his footing rhythmically and fluidly to position himself in front of the latter and lashed out an index finger to his sternum.

Wu Zhangkong quickly backed away, his entire figure blurring into several white afterimages, he moved in a series of strange, unpredictable and mysterious footsteps that, within a millisecond, made him appear behind Xiu Ye with his right hand, which unexpectedly turned jade white and smoky, in front of the latter's neck in a threatening position.

The entire exchange lasted for about three seconds! The others students watched with hanged jaws and dumbfounded expressions.

They weren't able to see all of it! To almost everyone of them, all they could see were Wu Zhangkong and Xiu Ye's figures blurring, and in the next second, they were in different positions.

Mu Xi gulped nervously, even she, a Soul Elder, wasn't able to see their entire exchange. This meant that Xiu Ye and Wu Zhangkong were moving at speeds exceeding the eye perception and speed of a Soul Elder.

Wu Zhangkong, although his expression still cold and indifferent, he was throughly impressed and shocked. He had once again underestimated Xiu Ye's abilities. He had rich experience fighting against Soul Masters, so he was able to analyze that the latter had reflexes, speed, reactions and instincts that far surpasses even average Soul Ancestors.

Nonetheless, he had the upper hand. Wu Zhangkong was about to announce his victory when he quickly realizes something. Xiu Ye's figure began blurring until he disappeared entirely from view, with only his upper uniform left floating down.

Utsusemi(otherwise known as Cast-Off Cicada Shell) is an advanced Shunpo technique. The practitioner moves at great speed to avoid an attack, leaving an afterimage which can appear to have taken damage. Xiu Ye used this technique to escape.

It was only due to his sense of hearing and sixth sense instinct; which are natural benefits of being a high level Soul Master, and rich combat experience, that Wu Zhangkong was able to moved his left arm up to his head to defend himself against a kick going down on him.

Wu Zhangkong didn't flinch, despite his numerous mysterious powerful skills and abilities, Xiu Ye's main weakness of all is his slightly above average physical body. Even if he reinforced his body, he would only be as strong as a Soul Ancestor at most without breaking his body and causing permanent damage. A human body has their limits after all, he wasn't any different. Thus he wasn't able to deal a powerful blow to Wu Zhangkong.

Despite so, Xiu Ye continued on digging the back of his right leg on Wu Zhangkong's arm for a brief long moment before he bounced off the arm for a moment, retracted his leg, and in that moment, gravity lowered his body, simultaneously, he twisted his body in a complete 180 degree and then he lashed out a kick once more to strike the latter's right rib. The force of his kick was enough to push Wu Zhangkong's body several inches away to the left.

Xiu Ye frowned in slight displeasure, his physical strength was still too low to deal any real damage to Wu Zhangkong. He really needs to find a way to temper his body, soon!

Wu Zhangkong eyebrows twitched. He didn't expect for Xiu Ye's kick to be that strong to slightly move his body and cause him to feel pain. Even though he didn't defend his body with soul power, he is still a rank 69 Soul Emperor! His physical body is something that no Soul Grandmaster should be able to hurt!

Xiu Ye and Wu Zhangkong stared straight at each other's eyes. They didn't say anything to the each other, a silent understanding pass to one another.

Wu Zhangkong knew he could stop right here, he already showed the students what he wanted to try to teach them, but he was curious! He was curious of what are the limits of Xiu Ye.

Xiu Ye subconsciously clenched his fists, his lips curled into a grin. This was it! A fight he could finally enjoy. His blood boiled in excitement, his heart pumping with adrenaline and veins throbbing with battle spirit!

They slightly squinted their eyes simultaneously. For their entire series of defense and attacks at each other, they try to limit their use of soul power and martial soul because there was a reason for it, specifically Wu Zhangkong had one.

He wanted to teach his students basic combat training, without using their martial soul and soul skills. He wanted to help them develop their own set of fighting style suited for them. Which is why he chose Xiu Ye as his assistant.

Xiu Ye had previously, and is currently, shown that he has rich hand-to-hand combat experience and has a unknown powerful martial arts of a fighting style suited for him. He was the perfect motivator for the students to pick up and/or create their own fighting styles.

Xiu Ye moved first. He sent out a straight punch towards Wu Zhangkong's chest, his fist glowed with a mix of orange and cyan light, it was however blocked by the latter's hand, which is turned into jade in white, cancelling his attack nonchalantly.

He didn't stop however, and slightly jumped up and lashed out a kick to Wu Zhangkong's face without any hesitation and the latter calmly blocked it with his other hand. Xiu Ye felt a jolt of shock coursing through him from his hand and foot, both were held by Wu Zhangkong's hands.

Deep freezing cold qi invaded through Xiu Ye's hand and foot, frost started to spread across the skin of his arm and leg, the deadly cold qi spread deeper into his muscles, veins and bones in less than a second.

Wu Zhangkong wasn't holding back!

This was the first time, in nine years, he has ever felt this cold. And it excited him!

Xiu Ye grinned madly, his entire body started to radiate with a deep orange aura that cause the temperature in the entire room to rise at a exponential rate, that the room felt like it turned into a sauna.

His hand and leg that was starting to freeze completely to the bone marrow, bright orange red flames started to burst and set Wu Zhangkong's hands into a blaze of fiery heat.

It didn't just end there however, Xiu Ye returned the gesture of transmitting elemental qi, into Wu Zhangkong's hands and the speed of infection was at the rate as the latter as well! This caught the cold man off guard, again.

He thought that with his Soul Emperor cultivation and elemental affinity, it would be enough to suppress the boy's fire and instead, it was the other way around! His ice wasn't enough to block the fire sun qi, he had to use his own soul power to block it and disperse if outside of his body.

'This boy really is amazing.' Wu Zhangkong inwardly said.

In the next several minutes, both student and teacher continued on with their exchange of blows and blocks with precise and no wasted movements within the entire room, and ignored almost everything around them. The temperature would change constantly at a unnatural pace. It was like, the natural laws are being bended.

'I think this is enough. With what he has shown, I'm inclined to think that Xiu Ye can help teach them.' Wu Zhangkong's right hand fingers curled inwards and a soft, undulating mysterious energy was expelled. His eyes slightly shimmered and started to glow with a purple light. 'I'll test his limits later on. The other students' education comes first.'

Xiu Ye stiffen in place, he felt that his entire body was covered with some sort of pure and refined soul power that rendered him immovable in place, but he can easily break through it with force.

Unfortunately for him however, he was a second too late; as he was blasted back with an unknown force of pressure that send him flying across the entire room.

Xiu Ye quickly reinforced his entire body to endure the impact and prepared himself to make a comeback.

Seconds passed and Xiu Ye didn't feel like his body was being embedded into a thick wall of concrete, making him confused. He turned his neck around to see that he was facing a perfectly intact wall.

Before he could question, what was going on, his entire body regained its freedom once more and he was dropped down. Fortunately, he landed on his feet without any problem.

Xiu Ye turned back to stare at Wu Zhangkong, his right foot about to make him flash step towards him, but the latter was already turned away from him and was talking to the other students, who returned from the hallway after they vacated the room for safety.

Tang Wulin and the gang had curious and anticipated expressions, while Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi had strange expressions on their faces, as they all entered back into the room and stared at both their teacher and classmate Xiu Ye, their attention mostly on the latter.

"Teacher, were you and Xiu Ye actually only using basic techniques just now?" Xie Xie asked Wu Zhangkong with wide eyes.

Wu Zhangkong nodded. "Technically speaking, yes. What we used were basic fighting techniques, which was what most, if not all, ancient Soul Masters in past used and also called, hand-to-hand combat or martial arts. In the past, these ancient Soul Masters were able to battle against physically tough and powerful Soul Beasts with only their martial souls, soul power and primitive weaponry. Did you think that was enough to hurt them? I can tell you all with my historical knowledge, no."

He brought out a metal pointer and added. "All of you have shown to have good control and use of your respective martial souls and soul skills. But those two things aren't the most important during a battle. It's battle experience and combat techniques."

"Basic combat techniques are fundamental. Although martial souls and soul skills can make a Soul Master powerful, the way they are used will determine just how powerful one will be. This is how basic techniques should be used. It's the same even when using battle armor or an ordinary mecha. Starting today, we will begin a lengthy period of combat technique training. Do not slack off; this is a crucial subject for you all. I'm going to teach all of you basic combat training for the next several months until your final exam, am I understood?"

"Yes, teacher Wu!" Tang Wulin and the others all said loudly.

Xiu Ye stared with a twitching eyebrow.

Wu Zhangkong turned towards him, his expression dull and cold, treating as if the entire previous fight didn't happened. "Is there a problem Xiu Ye?"

"...No, not at all sir." Xiu Ye said with gritted teeth.

Wu Zhangkong let out a breath and said. "Good, because you're going to help me demonstrate and assist your classmates on learning basic combat techniques."

Xiu Ye added. "Tang Wulin already has his own set of combat techniques and created his own fighting style. All he needs is combat experience and discipline."

Wu Zhangkong's shimmered momentarily and nodded. "Noted."

Tang Wulin trembled, as he felt a shiver run down his spine and the back of his uniform started to soak in cold sweat.
