Chapter 136: Closure

Yuanen Yehui is his assistant

He shook his head and said. "I just still can't get over the fact someone younger than me, is not only the strongest soul master in this generation but is also a librarian and my boss. Seriously, even when you put me in my place, I still can't believe how it happened."

'Me too.' Xiu Ye's mind wander back to when he ended up taking her under him.

It was a year ago.

~Flashback~

He was just minding his own business in the library, going through books with Structural Analysis while also researching those that made no sense, when the doors of the library opened suddenly that it made him jump.

"Hey Xiu Ye~" Standing there in the doors was the a smiling Shen Yi, ever more cheerful than ever since Wu Zhangkong had finally decided to asked her out on a date.

~Flashback in a Flashback~

After the reward ceremony, Xiu Ye finally got to talk to Wu Zhangkong about the ghost that was hanging around him.

Of course, he was skeptical and angry at him at first, for reasons he didn't understand at first as well, but when he told him some stuff the ghost was saying, some that was just too much information to talk about, he finally believed him and broke down in tears.

That was when Xiu Ye finally understood who the ghost was–Wu Zhangkong's ex-girlfriend.

He waited for him to calm down and told him about his ex-girlfriend's ghost possibility of becoming an evil spirit if she doesn't move on to the afterlife. And asked if he wanted for her to go on or stay with him.

Wu Zhangkong hesitated. The ice prince charming of Shrek Academy, one that wouldn't be faze by going against a zombie apocalypse and Titled Douluos, actually didn't say anything and just open and close his mouth a like fish.

He would've continued being a fish out of water, if it weren't for Bing'er, his ex-girlfriend, appearing right in front of him.

She stood in front of him, now wearing modern green clothes and was emitting a warm feeling.

"Bing'er....Y-You...." Wu Zhangkong was in disbelief. He took a step forward and tried to grab her arm but only for it to pass through her. His face frowned in anger. "Is this, an illusion...? No. You can't do this to me Xiu Ye. No! I–"

"Zhangkong, my love...Calm down. Or else I'll tell about him the day you propose that "plan" that involved you, me and sister Yi."

Wu Zhangkong gasped. There was only person in the world that knew about that...

"...Bing'er? Is it really you?"

"You can finally see me..." Bing'er smiled at him, tears trickling down from her eyes.

"Xiu Ye. How did you...?" Wu Zhangkong turned towards his student, knowing full well that not even Limit Douluos had the power to make ghosts of the dead visible to the living. Unless they had a ghost related martial soul that is.

Xiu Ye smirked at him and pointed to Wu Zhangkong's right hand. The latter looked confused, raised his right hand, opened it to see a golden ring with a black prism on it.

"That object, on the ring, is called the Resurrection Stone. Said to be the only object that would bring back the spirits of the holder's deceased loved ones, activating when the Stone was turned three times in the user's hand. I did it in your stead when you were just standing there like an idiot." Saying that, he turned around.

"You only have a few minutes of talking with her teacher Wu. I'm saying this not because I don't want you to be reunited with a dead person, but because the dead don't belong in the living world. The more she remains here, the more her existence fades away. Never to go to the afterlife, never having the chance to reincarnate." Xiu Ye then started to walk away from them.

"Tell her properly now teacher Wu, what you didn't manage to say to her before she died. I think, she deserves to rest now..."

The two lovers, both separated of concepts of life and death, was finally seeing each other face to face and talk for the final time.

Xiu Ye didn't know what they talked about for the last half hour before he was called over by teacher Wu.

They were a mess. Xiu Ye's face softened at the two lovers; Wu Zhangkong's ice cold face, that wouldn't break even when you torture him to death, was flowing tears out like a river. Bing'er was the same as well but she had a resigned and grateful smile on her when she saw him go near them.

"I think I'd like to rest now....and, Xiu Ye? Thank you. Thank you for giving me this chance to talk to him once more." She said, tears once more falling from her eyes.

Xiu Ye shook his head and said. "No need to thank me. It's my duty to send the ghosts and spirits to the afterlife in peace after all."

Wu Zhangkong scrunched his face in confusion but Bing'er's smile widened in understanding.

Xiu Ye raised his right hand, the sheathed form of Ryūjin Jakka appearing in sparks of embers, and he raised it over the ghost's face.

And gently bobbed her forehead.

Bing'er shone in a bright white light, her figure started dissolving into the sky. Like the shredded paper, getting blown into the wind.

As she finally left, smiling at Wu Zhangkong, the latter fell into his knees and cried out her name for one last time.

'...I hope you find peace in the afterlife as well.' Xiu Ye said as he dematerialize the Resurrection Stone from Wu Zhangkong's hand.

~Flashback in a Flashback Ends~

After that, Wu Zhangkong was a bit out of it for several months before he recovered and got into his teaching position.

And during that time when he was out of it, Shen Yi, his junior sister, would always stay by his side and even after he recovered.

Xiu Ye didn't know how it happened, especially since Wu Zhangkong wasn't the type of person to easily cut someone off of his life even she went to the afterlife and go to another. As it was the same in canon. But it was probably Bing'er's request for Wu Zhangkong to move on and try to find happiness again.

'Well, Wulin and Xie Xie owes us a hundred now. Teacher Shen Yi, fight on!' Xiu Ye flashed Shen Yi a smirk and a thumbs up.

She was taken aback for a moment before she realized it in a second later as she returned the thumbs up back.

"So, what brings you into my humble abode teacher Shen Yi?"

"I got a kid that needs to be babysitted but I got a date with senior brother, so...." She was interrupted by a voice behind her.

"I'm not getting babysitted!"

Xiu Ye raised an eyebrow as a kid his age, a head shorter than him, appeared behind Shen Yi with a frown on his face.

"Xiu Ye, meet Yuanen Yehui. A special student with....special talents that needs special attention."

Xiu Ye widened his eyes at the familiar name.

'It can't be...'

Yuanen Yehui frowned and protested. "I don't need special attention! I came here to be a normal student."

Shen Yi sighed and turned towards her. "Yuanen Yehui, you and I both know that it won't be possible. Especially with one of your martial souls."

"Shrek Academy might be the best school to take in soul masters with martial souls like yours, especially with how most of the people's views on them is low, but some of the students and faculty in the academy share similar view to people like them due to various reasons."

"We already have all of our students with similar situation as you stationed with trustworthy people. So until we have vetted those bad people, and make sure that they don't do anything to you and anyone else, then we would let you all continue on living your normal, but not so normal, school life."

Yuanen was quiet. A uncomfortable and disappointed expression was on her face before she slumped her shoulders in resignation.

"....I understand."

Shen Yi's eyes softened. She let out a sigh and rubbed his head. "I don't like this as well kid, but until then, you have to stay around me and him for a while. You can trust him. Because out of all the people in this academy, I would trust him to protect you. He's a hero after all."

"Well then," She winked at them both, turned around, and ran away. "see you guys later~!"

"...."

"...."

The two stare at each other in uncomfortable silence. Yuanen Yehui's expression turning cold as time went by.

"....Wanna play Raid Shadow–"

"....I've got a better idea." His "guest" finally spoke, interrupting him, and cracked both of his knuckles. "Why don't we play, sparring?"

~Flashback ends~

'....You were a pain in the ass after I beat you. Always following me around like a duckling, annoying me for weeks so I can train you to get stronger, asking teacher Shen Yi to make you my assistant, when you could've just asked!' Xiu Ye sighed and shook his head.

"....It was so anticlimactic." Yuanen Yehui groaned as he slumped onto a table next to him.

"Yup." Xiu Ye nodded. "And it was how I also found out that you're a reverse trap."

"Oh shut up." Yuanen Yehui struck her tongue at him before grabbing a book from the pile on the table Xiu Ye made. "Also, why do you keep reading books in a normal way if you have that scanning ability of yours? Couldn't you just scan through them instantly?"

"I can but some of the books here are either written in a different language or in numerical codes. And those some books are in the thousands. It's going to take years for me to decipher them–"

"....You just want to read." Yuanen Yehui interrupted with flat eyes, she called bull on it. She wasn't buying into that.

Xiu Ye blinked his eyes. He smirked, held his right index finger on his lips and winked.
