4 Chapter 04 - Cultivation Techniques

After half an hour soaking up the information in the energy bubbles, Mo Xie finally had what it took to start cultivating diligently.
There were several combat and cultivation techniques that he inherited from the Old Du. But the most important ones were highlighted so that Mo Xie could find them easily. They were: Heavenly Eyes of the Sun and Moon and Natural Qi Refinement.
The Heavenly Eyes of the Sun and Moon was able to absorb the Essence of the Sun and Moon to strengthen the practitioner's vision, comprehension and Mental Power. The technique was divided into five stages, and at each stage the eyes would be further refined and abilities outside the spirit rings would be granted. The stages are, respectively:
- Essence of the Sun and Moon (1st Stage): At this level, perception, comprehension and vision are improved and it is possible to see more and more clearly. Mental Power is also greatly improved and memory starts to become more perfect. The control of mental and spiritual power is also greatly improved.
- Pupils of the Sun and Moon (2nd Stage): At this level the pupils begin to take on a golden and silvery color. Vision is further improved and everything starts to move in slow motion, allowing the practitioner to react faster and faster and grants the ability to Mental Attacks and see the energy flow of a living being.
- Manifestation of the Sun and Moon (3rd Stage): At this level, the vision is enhanced to an extreme level where you are able to see the smallest details in your field of vision and the pupils fully take on the golden and silvery colors. Mind Power is also enhanced and condensed to the point that it affects reality and memory becomes perfect, able to remember everything you have seen or heard.
- Integration of Sun and Moon (4th Stage): At this level it is possible to understand and affect other people's thoughts from mental power and create a spirit domain where you can see everything in a three-dimensional view. (Depends on spiritual and mental power).
- Heavenly Eyes of the Sun and Moon (5th Stage): At this level the eyes attain perfection and mental power is elevated above the realm of mortals. You can use spiritual and mental power to do anything, as long as you have enough spiritual and mental capacity. (Ex: It is possible to place an entire plane inside an illusion as long as the practitioner's mental and spiritual capacity is sufficient.)
This was the technique used to cultivate his Mystic Eyes that Old Du created with all of his life experiences.
For his internal energy cultivation, he created the Natural Qi Refinement technique that absorbs Nature's Energy to strengthen and cleanse impurities from the body and soul. This method is also capable of cultivating the purest possible Spiritual Power as well as strengthening the practitioner's bloodline. This manual is divided into 5 levels. (All stages strengthen the practitioner's bloodline). The levels are, respectively:
- Purification of Impurities: Purifies both body, soul and spiritual power, leaving them 10 times purer and more powerful than normal people. The affinity within elements is also greatly strengthened.
- Body Metamorphosis: Reforms the body completely, changing bones, veins, meridians and blood, making them even more powerful and resistant, creating a perfect body for the practice of martial arts. Natural talent is greatly strengthened. Gains immunity to poison, cold and heat.
- Essence Refinement: It refines the body, soul and spiritual energy even further and brings them even closer to perfection. All internal organs are strengthened to the extreme at this stage and the body begins to absorb the laws to improve affinity and understanding of them.
- Essence Crystallization: The body is elevated to perfection with its attack power, defense, endurance, agility and vitality enhanced to the extreme. The soul and spiritual energy come to have a pure crystalline glow free from any impurities and strengthened to the extreme.
- Body of Nature: The practitioner is able to feel and use all the elements of the natural world as he wishes as long as his comprehension is sufficient. The comprehension and perception of nature at this stage is raised to the highest level possible and a Soul Core containing all the laws of nature is created which will be strengthened based on the comprehension of the laws.
Of all the techniques Mo Xie saw in Old Du's heritage, these are the most broken he's encountered. The battle and movement techniques he decided to learn after creating a solid foundation for himself with these two techniques.
On the Douluo Continent, the first spirit ring of spiritual masters is usually a centenary ring. However, if he can cultivate to the peak of the first stage of both techniques, it will be possible for his first ring to have an age of 1,000 years.
The initial stages are the easiest to learn, and the difficulty increases with each completed stage. With that in mind, Mo Xie has started making his training plan for the next few years until he can reach Rank 10 and absorb his first ring into his Mystic Eyes.
In the morning, at sunrise, he will begin to absorb the Essence of the Sun, then he will begin exercising his body to exhaustion, and then he will use the Natural Qi Refinement method. When the Moon rises he will absorb the Essence of the Moon and complete the cycle of the Heavenly Eyes of the Sun and Moon. Rest and repeat the next day.
One point that is important to note is that it is not possible to skip the Heavenly Eyes cycle. That is, the practitioner is forced to absorb both essences, or the cycle will disperse and there will be no progress in the technique.
The refinement of the body will also be followed by great pains, so if the practitioner cannot bear it, the body may react and break the meridians and disperse the practitioner's cultivation. So a firm will is essential when practicing this technique.
Sitting cross-legged, Mo Xie began using the Natural Qi Refinement method. The first thing he felt was his spiritual level dropping rapidly.

All the way back to Rank 1. But the reason for this was not the loss of spiritual power, but the compression of it. His method of refinement purified and compressed his power to an extremely dense and pure state, and that alone would make him rise above other people in his level, allowing him to compete with opponents above his rank.
He felt his power being compressed and spread in all his meridians and passages as he absorbed even more spiritual power from heaven and earth and began to cleanse the impurities from his body, soul and spiritual power.
What followed from that was a pain that started as a mosquito bite and rose to as if it were being forged with a hammer and placed in the forge with a searing heat.
Time went on and soon 4 hours passed quickly.
Mo Xie's body began to release its impurities and soon a horrible smell assaulted his nose. But instead of being annoyed about it, he was inwardly happy. After 4 hours of feeling his body being reforged, he finally completed the first part of the impurity purification stage. To complete this stage, he must purify his body, soul and spiritual power 10 times and in just 4 hours he completed the first purification.
But since he couldn't let other people see him like this, he ran to the bathroom to clean up and wash his clothes.
Half an hour later he was feeling light as a feather and when he checked his level he found he was at Rank 2 now, but his power was even stronger than when he was at Rank 6.
'Hmm, the purification speed will slow down over time, so it should take me about 2 years to complete the first stage… But because of that my body will need more nutrients than normal to develop.' Mo Xie thought as he left the orphanage.
"Okay, Old Du left some memories about medicine and blacksmithing. I can use this to earn some money for myself. Let's go with the forge, it will be the simplest and it can help to temper my body, but my training schedule will have to be changed." While making his plans, Mo Xie arrived in front of a smithy with a recruiting ad.
Entering the smithy, Mo Xie saw several metal weapons placed on display and a sturdy middle-aged man behind a counter arranging some cheap metal.
"Uncle, I saw your ad outside and came to apply."
The sturdy man stopped fiddling with the metal and turned to Mo Xie, looking him up and down. He couldn't help cursing.
"Brat, I'm not here to listen to your jokes. What could you do with that skinny body? Go home before I force you to!"
"Uncle, how about a bet then? You decide the requirements, if I can't fulfill it I'll help you in your smithy for free. If I win, you will hire me, what do you think?" Knowing that his age could still lead to such situations, Mo Xie came up with this plan to get a job.
The sturdy man just smiled and said smugly, "Very well brat, if you can beat that hammer in this black iron a thousand times I, Liu Kai, will pay double of the salary I promised in the ad." He picked up a hammer and threw it to Mo Xie.
"You better remember your words Uncle Liu!" Mo Xie smiled as he took the hammer out of the air and followed Liu Kai to the forge.
Liu Kai was surprised that he managed to lift the hammer that weighed around 45kg and a light shone in his eyes.
Mo Xie stood in front of the forge and closed his eyes for a few seconds to recall the blacksmithing techniques in his mind. He opened his eyes, raised the hammer and banged it against the black iron.
*Ting* *Ting* *Ting*
The sound of hammer hitting iron sounded in the forge as Mo Xie continued to remember techniques on how to wield and use a hammer to forge, how to stabilize your breathing and your stamina by putting as much force into your arm as possible and dispersing the rebound.
With each passing minute Mo Xie's technique improved at a steady rate. Even though it wasn't perfect and still has many flaws, as long as he could practice continuously, he could certainly reach the level that old Du reached.
Two hours later. Mo Xie was sweating continuously, but he had a smile on his face as he looked at Liu Kai who had an 'O' shape in his mouth.
"Uncle Liu, I fulfilled your requirements. You won't go back on your word right?" Liu Kai had a bitter smile on his face listening to Mo Xie's words.
"You won brat!" *sigh* "I wonder where a brat like you came from... Just thinking about the 30 silver coins I have to pay you now makes my heart sad." Liu Kai had a defeated expression on his face. He might be a little rude but he was a very honest guy. Even so, thinking about the money he was going to lose every month made him feel like a sword cut into his heart.
"What do you call yourself brat?" Things might not be so bad after all. At least he had a little monster that would increase his earnings with the number of orders for refined metals he's been earning.
"Mo Xie. My name is Mo Xie!" Mo Xie replied and took Liu Kai's outstretched hand.
