10 - Grey and Amber

Coldin floated in the middle of this seemly empty space. He scanned around him with his eyes and spirit power, this being one of the things that Anna had taught him.

Nothing, absolutely nothing. Coldin felt a shiver run down his spine. He had once felt this before, back in the tundra. Aunt Feng had left him alone in a place far away from their cave.

While the tundra didn't have a fraction as many spirit beasts as the lake, even when left in the silence of the white void Coldin hadn't felt this. He'd only felt this when aunt Feng was staring at him from miles away.

Something was watching him. This thought ran through Coldins mind and he tried to remain calm but his heart rate still sped up.

The sand at the bottom of the lake began to shift slowly, revealing a grey body. A head the same size as Coldin appears from below the sand, it's eyes trained on Coldin.

While this was happening, back at the top, near the lake side sat En Ci with his eyes closed, meditating.

Everything was calm the gentle chirping of crickets could be heard around him while the lake swayed in constant motion. Then, nothing. Everything went silent. The lake stopped swaying, going completely still.

En Ci opened his eyes -f*ck- he instantly shot up to his feet and tried to dive into the water but couldn't. An invisible force stopped him from moving forward.

As he stood there the veins on his head could be seen bulging. His teeth ground together. His muscles straining but he still couldn't move. His nerves felt like they where on fire but he could make no head way towards the lake.

Back down in the lake, the grey beast looked at Coldin with cold eyes ~chhhild whhhyyy haave yooou come?~

Spinning around in the water, Coldin turned to face the beast. What greeted him was grey skin and eyes of amber.

Coldin knew what this beast was and he also knew he couldn't stop to think about it. He needed to answer and quick.

Using his spatial storage that was granted to him by his spirit bone. Coldin took out a pill that he'd prepared for emergencies and swallowed it.

As soon as the pill was swallowed he answered the beast with haste saying "I'm here to find a partner" the beast showed no emotions and followed up with ~Exxplaain~

Coldin slowly released his spirit and sent a wisp of spirit power to the grey skinned beast. It's amber eyes went wide in shock then a toothy grin appeared on what Coldin could only guess was its face.

~accceppted~ the beast slowly dissipated into a flow of spirit power, it headed straight to Coldin and deeper into his body heading to his heart.

Slowly a spirit ring appeared behind Coldin, who's eyes were shut, it's colour an unatural grey. Like his previous spirit ring it began to shift in colour, grey, red, purple and then black. In the centre of this ring was the a depiction of the beasts head a streamline shape with a maw of needle like teeth.

Drifting down to the bottom Coldin sat with his legs crossed, the backs of his hands next to his knees. The ring disappeared leaving only Coldin once again in an empty piece of the lake.

En Ci now able to move sprinted to the lake side and dived in. Using his spirit power he propelled himself through the water heading straight to Coldin.

He sped past fish and beasts alike until coming in front of Coldin. Seeing him sitting in meditation En Ci sighed in relief.

-this kid I swear to the gods- En Ci's heart finally began to calm down. A smirk appearing on his face. After spending two years with Coldin he'd become fond of this 'little titan' as he nicknamed him.

En Ci released his spirit and starting from him a dim yellow dome began to push back the water just enough to allow both him and Coldin be in a water free area.

-guess I can only wait- En Ci did think about moving Coldin but decided against it as he didn't want to interrupt him because if he guessed right Coldin had found his second spirt ring and was in the process of absorbing it.

One thought ran through En Ci's mind -wonder what he's going to shock me with this time- a smirk appeared on his face before he went back to concentrating on keeping the dome up.
